After looking into "how to help the dvpn community and get rewarded in
cryptocurrency" i came across the Mysterium Network. It immediately caught my
attention, as this is exactly what I was looking for. Setting up a node was
super simple as multiple platforms are supported out of the box. When I ran into
an issue about port forwarding, the mysterium community was right there to
assist and solve the issue in no time. The node is running ever since and while
other users are using my internet connection to freely browse without
censorship, i make some crypto on the side :)

At the beginning I was indecisive about becoming a node-runner and also a bit
skeptical about the project itself, mainly because I was quite rusty in my
technical skills and the available documentation about the project at that time
was not very clear for me. Very soon I realised that only minimal technical
understanding (not even skills) is needed to run a node and with the help of the
community of node-runners and the Mysterium team that are very supportive,
running a node became like a hobby, really enjoyable and effortless. As time
went by, I started to understand more and more the technological part (I even
become a beta-tester myself) but most importantly I started to understand the
project itself and its potential, and how it can really help to boost freedom
and fight against censorship, without forgetting the passive income that
represents being a node-runner, just sharing your bandwidth to get a sweet
profit. Now I manage six residential nodes (of friends and family) in two
different countries, and looking forward to increasing that number.

Mysterium is creating a decentralised virtual private network (VPN) and with
this it is providing a free internet for everyone. You may already know that
internet providers can access all browsing history and this makes it possible
for governments to ban or even punish citizens when they have written things
that the government does not agree with. To provide this service anyone can run
a Mysterium Node from home that adds VPN services to the network. Node runners
are rewarded for providing their hardware for this cause. Because I believe in
freedom of internet use for the whole world I am running a few nodes. I get
rewarded for doing this (MYST tokens are earned for running a node) but the
rewards (at this moment) are not comparable to all the work I have done to
install and manage those nodes. I want to help the Mysterium team so this great
service gets known to the world and so that everyone will use the Mysterium VPN
service.

I believe in a less restrictive internet where governments or ISPs are not the
withholding of information. This seems to be even more important in current
times where citizens risk being forcibly detained because they are trying to
spread information to the rest of the world but are being tracked online by
their government.
