SIMÓN BOLÍVAR

Simón Bolívar (IPA: [siˈmon boˈliβar]), in full Simón José Antonio de la
Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios (24 July 1783 – 17 December 1830), was a
Venezuelan military and political leader who played an instrumental role in the
establishment of Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and Colombia as sovereign
states, independent of Spanish rule.

Bolívar was born into a wealthy, aristocratic Creole family, and similar to
others of his day, he was educated in Europe at a young age, arriving in Spain
at the age of 16. There, he was introduced to the thoughts and ideas of learned
Enlightenment philosophers, which filled him with the ambition to replace the
Spanish as rulers. Taking advantage of the disorder in Spain prompted by the
Peninsular War, Bolívar inaugurated his campaign for independence in 1808,
appealing to the wealthy creole population by seeking freedom through a
conservative process and had an organized national congress established within
three years. Despite a number of hindrances, including the arrival of an
unprecedented large Spanish expeditionary force, the revolutionaries eventually
prevailed, culminating in a patriot victory at the Battle of Carabobo in 1821,
which effectively made Venezuela a truly independent country.

A 4-min biography video of Simon Bolivar. TRANSCRIPT: Simon Bolivar was the
greatest leader of Latin America's independence movement from Spain. A gifted
general and a charismatic politician, he drove the Spanish from northern South
America and was instrumental in the early formative years of the new Latin
American republics. His later years were marked by the collapse of his grand
vision of uniting South America. He is remembered as "The Liberator," or
“Libertador”, the man who liberated his home from Spanish rule. Simón José
Antonio de la Santísma Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios was born on July 24, 1783 in
Caracas, New Granada (now Venezuela). Bolívar was born into a prosperous family
whose wealth was built on rich gold and copper mines they owned in Venezuela.
Young Bolívar moved to Spain in 1799 after the deaths of his parents. In Spain,
he continued his education, begun in Venezuela with tutors, and married María
Teresa Rodríguez del Toro y Alaysa in 1802. When the young couple returned to
Venezuela to visit in 1803, however, María Teresa sickened and died of yellow
fever. After her death, Bólivar returned to Europe and kept company with
Napoleon. In 1807, Bolívar returns to Venezuela and joins the resistance
movement. The resistance group, based in Caracas, gained independence in 1810,
and Bolívar traveled to Britain on a diplomatic mission. The fight for control
of Caracas, Venezuela and most of South America continued on back home. Bolívar
returned to Venezuela and began a campaign to wrest control of the country from
the Spanish. He and his followers invaded Venezuela on May 14, 1813; this marked
the beginning of his "Campaña Admirable" (Admirable Campaign), which resulted in
the formation of the Venezuelan Second Republic later that year. Bolívar was
hailed as El Libertador (The Liberator), though civil war soon erupted in the
republic, forcing him to flee to Jamaica and seek foreign aid. With the support
of Haiti, Bolívar returned to his home continent and became involved in a number
of military battles. He eventually was able to claim several territories. 1821
saw the creation of the Gran Colombia, under Bolívar's leadership. This
federation included much of what is now Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and Ecuador.
Further maneuvers saw him named Dictator of Peru in 1824, followed by the
creation of Bolivia in 1825. Bolívar succeeded in uniting much of South America
in a federation free from Spanish control, but the government was fragile.
Despite his desire to create a union of states similar to the United States of
America, Bolívar faced opposition from internal factions throughout the Gran
Colombia. Bolívar declared himself dictator in 1828, though in September of the
same year he escaped an assassination attempt thanks to his mistress and fellow
revolutionary Manuela Sáenz. He resigned this post in 1830 and made plans to
sail for exile in Europe. On December 17, 1830, however, Simón Bolívar died in
Santa Marta, Colombia, after a battle with what may have been tuberculosis.
Today, Bolívar's legacy can be seen in the multitude of statues and plaza
squares bearing his likeness throughout South and North America. ************

A 4-min biography video of Simon Bolivar. TRANSCRIPT: Simon Bolivar was
the greatest leader of Latin America's independence movement from Spain.
A gifted general and a charismatic politician, he drove the Spanish from
northern South America and was instrumental in the early formative years
of the new Latin American republics. His later years were marked by the
collapse of his grand vision of uniting South America. He is remembered
as "The Liberator," or “Libertador”, the man who liberated his home
from Spanish rule. Simón José Antonio de la Santísma Trinidad Bolívar y
Palacios was born on July 24, 1783 in Caracas, New Granada (now Venezuela).
Bolívar was born into a prosperous family whose wealth was built on rich
gold and copper mines they owned in Venezuela. Young Bolívar moved to Spain in
1799 after the deaths of his parents. In Spain, he continued his
education, begun in Venezuela with tutors, and married María Teresa
Rodríguez del Toro y Alaysa in 1802. When the young couple returned to
Venezuela to visit in 1803, however, María Teresa sickened and died of
yellow fever. After her death, Bólivar returned to Europe and kept company
with Napoleon. In 1807, Bolívar returns to Venezuela and joins the resistance
movement. The resistance group, based in Caracas, gained independence in
1810, and Bolívar traveled to Britain on a diplomatic mission. The fight for
control of Caracas, Venezuela and most of South America continued on back
home. Bolívar returned to Venezuela and began a campaign to wrest control of
the country from the Spanish. He and his followers invaded Venezuela on
May 14, 1813; this marked the beginning of his "Campaña Admirable"
(Admirable Campaign), which resulted in the formation of the Venezuelan
Second Republic later that year. Bolívar was hailed as El Libertador (The
Liberator), though civil war soon erupted in the republic, forcing him to
flee to Jamaica and seek foreign aid. With the support of Haiti, Bolívar
returned to his home continent and became involved in a number of
military battles. He eventually was able to claim several
territories. 1821 saw the creation of the Gran Colombia, under Bolívar's
leadership. This federation included much of what is now Venezuela,
Colombia, Panama and Ecuador. Further maneuvers saw him named Dictator of
Peru in 1824, followed by the creation of Bolivia in 1825. Bolívar
succeeded in uniting much of South America in a federation free from
Spanish control, but the government was fragile. Despite his desire to
create a union of states similar to the United States of America, Bolívar
faced opposition from internal factions throughout the Gran Colombia.
Bolívar declared himself dictator in 1828, though in September of the same
year he escaped an assassination attempt thanks to his mistress and
fellow revolutionary Manuela Sáenz. He resigned this post in 1830 and made
plans to sail for exile in Europe. On December 17, 1830, however, Simón
Bolívar died in Santa Marta, Colombia, after a battle with what may have been
tuberculosis. Today, Bolívar's legacy can be seen in the multitude of
statues and plaza squares bearing his likeness throughout South and North
America. ************ Like the music? Check out epidemic sound https://

Natural disaster 22 March 2022. People are running away! Flood destroys
houses and bridges in Bolivar, Ecuador Due to the weather conditions that
occurred in the province of Bolívar, the Caluma River, burst its banks,
causing panic among the residents of the urban center and rural areas. In
images that several inhabitants shared on social networks, it is
observed how the flow threatens the houses built on the edge of the
tributary. The current could affect the structure of the bridge and some
houses located on the banks of the river. There are houses that are already
in danger due to undermining. Naturals hazards in 2021 have become more
