Our Story

4 Years, $50,000! We've been fundraising for 4 years for this tour. At the end
of this campaign we will have earned $40,000. Still $10,000 to go for our dream
trip. We're still going on tour, but we'll have to cut costs to do it.
Consider giving a little extra to help us make the 50. Thanks so much for your
support!

Allegro Handbell Ensemble (www.allegrobells.org) changes lives. For nearly 50
years, this group of High School Handbell Ringers has fostered deep
relationships with God, peers, and people all over the United States and Europe.
Every year at Christmas, alumni reunite as a handbell family to play together
on Christmas Eve.

Each year, Allegro tours in the US or overseas, and the experience forges
lifelong bonds of friendship, not only among the musicians, but also with the
communities touched by their talents. The experiences for the students are
life-changing. This year, we will go to Scotland and Ireland. We will also be
performing in a joint concert with a handbell choir from Singapore at the
Dunblane Cathedral.

Additionally, we hold service as a core value and will be volunteering in a
project to help those in need in Edinburgh.

We are truly excited to bring our joy and gift of ringing overseas and to make a
difference on this tour.

Since 1967, the Allegro Handbell Ensemble has been a pioneering force in the
world of handbells - commissioning and premiering many new works. Bringing
together high schoolers with various musical experience to make music, Allegro
delights audiences around the world.

This year's 8-piece ensemble looks forward to bringing our special gift of music
to audiences in Scotland and Ireland, but we can only succeed with your help.

WHAT WE NEED & WHAT YOU GET

Our dream tour costs are estimated to be $50,000. With your help we have
reached our IndieGoGo goal. Adding this campaign to our other fund-raising over
the last 4 years we have earned $40000. Our tour is a GO! Thank you!

With the extra $10000 we will be able to perform more concerts and add tour
highlights.

Your donation funds transportation, lodging, meals, music, and touring
historical and geographical sights.

THE IMPACT

The Allegro Handbell Ensemble tradition of musical excellence is a source of
pride and unity. The European tour forges a bond between musicians, communities
and with music that few other experiences deliver.

Bell Memories:

"I was involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities and interests in high
school, but Sunday afternoons were a sacred time where I could get together with
other students to create music on a set of 8 octaves of handbells. Bell choir
was a staple of my high school life. We would spend entire weekends performing
concerts around the Chicagoland area, and entire weeks traveling during the
summer months to perform around the Unites States and Europe. Bell choir taught
me invaluable lessons on teamwork, goal-setting, and dedication. Most
importantly, it instilled a sense of pride in my hard work during such
impressionable teenage years. The best part about being in the bell choir was
meeting other people who were interested in and dedicated to music at other
churches and realizing how universal the passion for music is."

"One of the most unique and valuable opportunities I've had was being a part of
the Allegro Handbell Ensemble. I did not want to join at first, but after a few
practices I was hooked. Every week I was impressed with the songs we were able
to play, and there was a strong sense of comradery and pride during practices,
but more so during performances. It was always easy to see the joy that handbell
music brings to audiences, especially to those who had never seen a bells
concert before. Perfecting songs and working towards our summer tours gave
practices a sense of purpose, and the hard work during the school year was
always worth the summer tour. I became so much more comfortable and confident
performing for an audience because of bells, and it is truly hard to describe
the amount of fun I've associated with ABC over the years. I think the fact that
I still enjoy practicing old songs (and learning new ones!) whenever possible
after almost 4 years of being "retired" from bells is proof enough that 4 years
of bells wasn't enough for me. "

"Once I got past the tough parts—learning to put on cummerbund and suspenders in
the right order; explaining to people that even though it was called a 'choir'
there'd be no singing—Bell Choir became a wonderful collection of experiences,
lasting friendships, and music (even occasional practice). From Mike, our
director when I rang, I learned the virtues of preparation, timing, and a bit of
showmanship, and from fellow ringers and everyone else involved—including all
those who chaperoned (tolerated) our annual summer tours—I learned how to act as
part of a group, and how to keep sane in our own little version of life on the

Your support will give this year's Allegro Handbell Ensemble an opportunity to
build the bonds of friendship and support that we will carry with us throughout
our lives.

RISKS & CHALLENGES

The Allegro Handbell Ensemble raises funds for a Europe tour on a four-year
cycle. We are pleased to have secured 70% of the the costs for this tour, but
need to close the gap quickly. The Allegro Handbell Ensemble players and
families participate in many fundraisers during year: paid concerts, Market
Day, Union Church Resale!, and selling fundraising gift cards. Changes in the
economy have adversely affected these long-standing fundraisers' ability to
fully fund the 2015 tour.

In addition to this campaign, for the first time the Ensemble held a benefit
concert/dessert fundraiser on Sunday, March 22. This concert featured many
accomplished and beloved performers - retired Allegro director, parents,
Alumnae, and friends - who understand the value of the Europe tour to the
audiences and performers alike. Thanks to the support of our performers and
appreciative audience, this concert raised $4000 toward our tour! That's 4
plane tickets! From the audience reaction, we expect that this event will be a
welcome addition to celebrate the church's long-standing love of fine music.
