Did you know that analogue cameras were used by the Traffic Police (TP) to deter
and detect traffic violations such as speeding and beating red lights
previously? The Traffic Red Light Surveillance Camera (TRLSC) and the Auto Speed
Radar Camera System (ASRCS), deployed from 1986 and 1994 respectively could only
capture black and white images on films. TP officers were deployed at various
camera locations to unload and replenish the films on a regular basis. Once back
at the office, the films were developed into negatives before being distributed
to data processing officers for viewing and verification of the traffic
offences. Today, the TRLSC and ASRCS cameras have been replaced by digital
cameras that produce high-definition coloured images that are transferred via
the 4G network back to the servers for backend processing. The new brightly
painted camera poles coupled with warning signages allow motorists to
distinguish them from a distance so that they can slow down for the safety of
all road users.

Photo 2: The cabin system of the ASRCS was made operational in 1994.
Photo 3: Officers managing the TRLSC cameras along the road.
Photo 4: The Digital Speed Enforcement Camera (DSEC) which was fully
commissioned in 2015 uses radar technology and transmits images via the 4G
network.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF KRETA AYER NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE POST (NPP)

The Kreta Ayer NPP will be closed temporarily from 12 June 2023 to 1 September
2023 to undergo maintenance works.

Residents may proceed to the nearest NPPs (indicated below) during this period.

The fully automated redesigned NPPs provide residents round-the-clock access to
automatic police services such as a self-help kiosk to report crime, and a
self-service dropbox for returning of found property. The redesigned NPPs will
allow police officers to be re-deployed to the ground, to better serve the
community.

For reporting of non-emergency cases, members of the public can also utilise the
electronic Police Centre (ePC) at http://www.police.gov.sg/e-services. Members
of the public who require urgent police assistance should call โ€˜999โ€™
immediately.

We thank the affected residents for their understanding.

Inspired by the Hong Kong TV police dramas in the 1990s, AC Serene Chiu joined
the Singapore Police Force in 1999. She has since stayed on for over 23 years.

For officers who have worked with her, you would have known her as someone who
is jovial, yet focused, driven and firm during operations and missions. AC
Serene Chiu now leads Clementi Police Division, which was recently named the
Best Land Division at the Police Day Parade on 3 June 2023. Today, we speak to
her to find out what are the โ€˜secretsโ€™ in winning the award.

โ€œThereโ€™s no secret in winning (laughs)! But I do like to credit my officers for
maintaining a high standard of operational excellence and professionalism. They
will chase down every lead to solve every crime they can and ensure justice is
served. The Division is outstanding because of its people who give their utmost
to keep Singapore safe and secure every day.โ€

โ€œAnd of course, I would also like to thank our community partners and
stakeholders, who have actively contributed to creating safer communities.
Technology plays an important role too. We use data-driven approach to identify
crime patterns to better plan our deterrence patrols and crime prevention
efforts, and Police cameras have been effective in helping us deter and solve
crimes.โ€

AC Serene added, โ€œPolicing is a demanding and dynamic job. So, I made it a point
to listen to my officers, ask them how I can help them do their job better so
that they can better serve the public and uphold public trust. As a Commander, I
am responsible and accountable for the power I hold in trust, and it is
important that I support them in their work, equip them to succeed, and empower
them to perform at their best.โ€

Ending off the interview, AC Serene shared, โ€œAt the end of my command tenure, I
do hope to see that the Division is in a better state than when I first found it
and that I have enabled officers to grow and become next generation of leaders.โ€

Congratulations to AC Serene Chiu and all men and women from Clementi Police
Division once again for winning the accolade! ๐Ÿ˜Š
