THE GREATEST SECRET OF BILLIONAIRES, 95-YEAR-OLD ATTORNEYS AND THE RETIREMENT
   MYTH

   By Harrison Barnes Dec 13,2023

I have been in Las Vegas this week, and a good five or six times, I have
heard various people talk about how Steve Wynn does this, or Steve Wynn does
that. There is absolutely no question that Wynn is a successful guy, and I
would love to go over and see his new casino to see what it is all about.
From what I understand, it is incredible. Everywhere I go, I am hearing
stories about different people who have reached the pinnacle of success.
Because a really good biography just came out about Warren Buffet, I have

   EINSTEIN, VISUALIZATION, AND YOUR CAREER

   By Harrison Barnes Dec 26,2023

One of the little-known facts about Albert Einstein is that he attended a
school that followed the teaching methods of the Swiss educator Johann
Pestalozzi.  Pestalozzi schools taught children in what was known as the
Pestalozzi Method (the “Method”).  Under the Method, it was believed that
instead of dealing with words, children should learn through activity and
objects. They should be free to pursue their own interests and reach their
own conclusions. Much of Pestalozzi’s teaching methods can be found in a book

KING HENRY II AND UNDERSTANDING YOUR EMPLOYER

   By Harrison Barnes Nov 06,2023

Under King Henry II in the twelfth century, England established a common
law.  This was a body of law that was common to all parts of the country.
Throughout Europe at the time, there was a wide body of law that was
applied—there were feudal customs, Germanic customs and other differing
customs.  For example, French King Louis IX was well known for having allowed
each province of France to have its own laws and procedures after becoming
part of France.  He created a Parliament of Paris to hear appeals from the
   feudal lords around France. Each...

   HOW TO NETWORK

   By Harrison Barnes Dec 20,2023

Informal networks can make a massive difference in the quality of not only
your job search but also your life. Too few people take the time to
understand the importance of informal networks and referrals when it comes to
getting your foot in the door with an employer. If you’re looking for jobs,
networking can be a deciding factor in what job offers you will get. One of
the crucial aspects of informal networking is recognizing the power of
endorsements, and that’s really what a referral is. You see this happening
   all around you. For example,...

STOLEN LICENSE PLATE TAGS, UNLAWFUL ARRESTS, HOOKERS, DRUG DEALERS, AND LOOKING

Employment Do’s and Don’ts

 * Love What You Do

In this article, Harrison explains how important it is to love the work you
are doing. Being good in the work at hand is one thing, being truly
passionate about it is another. Harrison believes that your performance level
will significantly rise if you love your work. Being genuinely happy about
the work you do inspires you to work more and work better. People who work
primarily for money are generally those who work less, contribute less, and
are not interested in long-term relationships with their work or their
employers. In contrast to them, are those who harbor a heartfelt passion
about their work deep inside them, which helps them reach great heights in
any discipline. So it’s only natural that you gain advancement and a true
feeling of fulfillment when you really love your work.

 * Job Hopping: It Is Always About You

Many people have a single weakness that they have failed to address, which
holds them back in their careers and leads to job hopping. Job hopping
indicates that something is wrong with a person’s attitudes and outlook
rather than with their employers. Identify and fix the things that are
holding you back rather than leaving your position when you should not, and
much more success and happiness will come to you.

 * The Importance of Culture in Organizations

Employees’ level of success and overall happiness has more to do with a
particular culture (which is sometimes also referred to as the personality of
an organization) than with any other factor. This article discusses (a) the
   importance of organizational...

 * Be Committed to What You Do

In this article Harrison discusses the power of commitment. It is important
to commit to your career, to a single employer or to anything for that
matter. Not being committed to your career can have enormous ramifications.
Commitment is key to any form of success. You should not do any sort of job
that your heart is not in and that you cannot be committed to. Without a
strong commitment you will not have the success you desire.

 * Never Focus on the Money: Focus on Your Higher Purpose and Contribution

In this article, Harrison explains the importance of realizing the greater
purpose in the work you do. One of the greatest causes of failure in the work
world is when your focus diverts from your contribution to the money you are
earning. You need to understand the larger purpose for which you have been
hired. The money you are paid for your job is generally commensurate with
your contribution to something more important, more meaningful, and much
larger than yourself. The secret to success then will be having a higher
purpose to your work and being energized by your work which would ultimately
bring more and better work and lead to more money.

 * Do Not Get Involved in the Social Side of the Office

In this article Harrison explains why it is important to stay away from the
social side of the office. If you are spending time with negative people
inside the company, the implication is you may share their opinions as well.
This can create huge problems for you. You need to realize guilt by
association can hurt you. You are at work to make a living. You can choose to
get involved in the social side of the office and watch your career stall.
None of this is to say you can’t be friendly with your co-workers. However,
you should not participate in the social network of the office too much. The
social side of the office can be fun but more often than not, it can cause
you far more problems than it is worth.

 * How to Answer the “Tell Me about Yourself” Interview Question

The answers to these seven questions are essentially the same as your
response to “Tell me about yourself.” You need to see yourself and your
answer to every question from the employer’s point of view. Interviewers are
looking for the best long-term fit for each job. Anything you say that
supports this is likely to get you hired and anything that does not is likely
to mean you will still be looking for a job.

 * Why Aren’t There More American Day Laborers, Doctors, Engineers and Textile
   Workers?

In this article Harrison explains the economic rule which says – your rewards
will be in direct proportion to the value you provide. In your career if you
are not providing enough value, the rule will catch up with you sooner or
later. In contrast, if you are providing more value than you receive you will
probably have a very good career. Companies that provide more value than they
receive for their products generally end up flourishing. Companies that
provide very little value generally end up going out of business. The law of
economics that is always operating in the background is that you always need
to give more than you take and be prepared to give.

 * Bad Manners, Rumors, and Your Career

Rumors are extremely dangerous. Competitors and colleagues alike share
incorrect, negative information about you, these rumors can spread like
wildfire and quickly shipwreck your career. Make sure that your peers know
and understand you, show courtesy and respect for others, and avoid all types
of arrogance; if you can do these things, you can mitigate the likelihood and
   potential damage of rumors.

 * Harmonize with the People in Your Environment

You need not only to fit in, but to be seen as fitting in with your
coworkers. Harmonizing with your work environment is one of the most
important things you can do for your career, and failing to do so can cause
you serious problems. Achieving such harmony, however, will ultimately bring
you closer to your career goals, and is among the primary things that society
   demands of its participants.

 * Soup Nazis, Insurance Investment Scams, Consumerism and Focusing on the Work

You need to stay focused on your work – and only your work – in order to
achieve the results that you want. Bring passion to your work, and surround
yourself with similarly passionate colleagues. Your coworkers may resent you
without this passion. Employers care about how much you care about them and
what you can do for them rather than how much money you hope to make. When
you offer employers a tremendous value, you will be compensated accordingly.

 * Do Not Be a Victim

Rather than adopt a victim mentality, work to take advantage of the
opportunities that you already have. Most people only seek to gain as much as
they can from their employers, hoping to get something for nothing by
feigning victimhood. These people have no interest in being contributors, and
refuse to take responsibility for their lives. Do not expect a free ride, but
instead strive to perform at your greatest possible potential.

 * Parking Benefits and Falling in Love with Your Job

You must find a job about which you are passionate, perform it with
dedication, and make sure this dedication is visible to those around you.
When you devote yourself to a job that you love, you open the doors for
greater happiness and fulfillment in your career and life. Employers and
colleagues notice those who demonstrate passion for their jobs; they
naturally gravitate towards these types of people, and avoid those who take a
more perfunctory approach to their work.

 * You Need to Be Relevant to Your Employer

Understanding what you do for a living is very important for your career. You
should understand the generality of your specific profession. You and your
career are a product. You need to know where and how to market yourself in
the best way possible. You need to be relevant and understand the skills you
are offering. Being a relevant product is essential for your success. It’s
easy to be relevant when you understand what you are doing and what purpose
you serve. Being relevant is more than just getting a job. Being relevant
also relates to serving the employers with the skills they need. You need to
understand your market and what your customers want. This is the way to stay
employed, and it is also the means to continual improvement.

 * Narcissistic Entitlement Syndrome

Narcissistic Entitlement Syndrome (NES) afflicts many people in the current
job market; they see themselves as special, and deserving of whatever they
want at the expense of others. NES puts these people on a collision course
with failure. Even if they do not themselves fail, colleagues with NES can
negatively affect you; avoid NES and people afflicted with it at all costs.

 * Immanuel Kant and What Good Hiring Managers Should Look For

In this article Harrison discusses what a good hiring manager should look
for. Many people who make hiring decisions really do not know what they are
doing. In fact, they often make mistakes when hiring. They put too much
emphasis on skills and experience. But the single most important aspect of
hiring is evaluating the person’s unique outlook on the world. If the person
does not have a positive outlook on the world, he/she will bring down the
morale of the other workers. The person will harm the company through the
negative outlook. The key to success is having the power to stick it out in
jobs and finding happiness wherever you are. Hiring people who do good work
and are always able to find happiness should be the number one objective of
   hiring managers.

 * Imitation, Our Parents, and Transference

Everyone seeks to imitate the people they look up to, and with transference
they believe that they have an understanding of other peoples’ thoughts,
motives, and beliefs. Transference, however, can blind yourself to the true
nature of those around you and can lead you to make wrong judgments or
assumptions. You will be much more successful with a better understanding of
who you are and how your perceptions of the world help or hinder you.

 * 21 Major Job Interview Mistakes to Avoid at All Costs

I’ve tried to provide you with as much information as possible about mistakes
to avoid when you are interviewing. Mastering these elements can ensure your
success when interviewing and make you more likely to get the job.

 * Choose an Employer Who Is Marching Forward

In this article Harrison discusses how your career can see growth if you
choose to work with an employer who is marching forward. All employers go
through different stages, and when you get in will have a real bearing on
what happens to your career over time. The best time to get in is at the
beginning of the growth cycle. The employer marching forward will provide you
with the most important opportunities and the best overall career. The
employers marching forward are easy to spot as they tend to be hiring more
and more people. Such employers are excited about the future and the people
working with them typically feel the same way. In your search for a job, and
in choosing between employers, you need to find an organization that is
marching forward or beginning a march.

 * Focus on Doing – and Stop Talking about Those Who Are Doing

Focus on what you are doing, not what others around you are doing. There are
people to take action towards their goals, and then there people who sit on
the sidelines and comment on the first group of people. People who are mostly
interested in gossip and watching others usually lack the confidence and
determination to take action themselves. The most successful people go
account and accomplish things rather than sit back and watch others make
   things happen.

 * Choose Work That Fits Your Nature

Everyone has a distinct nature and view of the world; you must understand
yours, and choose a lifestyle and work that matches your outlook. Jobs and
coworkers who do not match your nature, acting outside of your nature, or
trying to be something that you are not will only leave you unhappy. Your
nature will likely never change regardless of outside conditioning, so you
will achieve your greatest success in a job that you love.

 * Your Job Search and Future Prospects Will Be Determined by the Company You
   Keep

In this article, Harrison explains how the company you keep will inevitably
be a major cause of success or failure in your career and life. Wrong
associations can be harmful and although you cannot really avoid it all the
time, you need to distance yourself from it. Unethical people can repeatedly
injure your progress and you need to be aware of and understand the people
you deal with, to protect yourself from those who could taint you and drag
   you down.

Keeping a Job

 * To Succeed in Any Job You Need to Create Work

In this article Harrison discusses that your ability to create productive
work can bring you success in your career. The opportunity to work is an
important part of your existence. Work is a path to mental and economic
stability; it brings happiness and purpose in our lives. When you create work
you always have something to do and you are always adding value. Truly
stellar performers have the ability to consistently create work that the
company values. You need to create work in your job; at the same time you
need to stay away from people who are critical of the act of work. Work is
healthy for you. Your identity and life, for the most part, revolve around
work. Harrison firmly believes that cherishing your work and creating more
work will change your career and life for better.

 * Watching for Waste in Your Job

In this article Harrison talks about the difference between people who
survive in recessions, and those who end up being cut. When a recession is at
hand, or when an industry is experiencing a contraction, companies very
quickly become interested in saving as much money as possible. They look
around to see who is working hard and adding value and who is not. In your
job, you need to ensure that you are providing as much value as possible.
People who do not put in extra effort, or who cause lots of waste in the
company, may find they are out of a job when a recession or restructuring
   hits.

 * King Henry II and Understanding Your Employer

In this article Harrison discusses the importance of listening to, and
understanding the other side’s point of view. Harrison feels that a lot of
the economic crisis in the country is because people fail to understand one
another. The biggest problems why businesses fail is that people want things
to be in a certain way and are afraid to listen to what needs to be done to
change this. People often assume they know what someone else needs or what
they are entitled to. People do this without having any information
whatsoever about where the other person is coming from. This never works.
Harrison concludes that the most important thing you can often do to keep a
job, get a job, and more is take the time to listen and ensure you understand
the other person’s point of view.

 * How to Survive and Succeed in Your Job

In this article Harrison discusses the importance of being well informed to
be able to succeed in any job. Information is the key to survival in any
company or organization that one joins and wants to remain part of. Getting
access to information when you start a job and using that information
intelligently is crucial to survival in any job. When you are interviewing
for a job, it is extremely important that you understand exactly what the job
is. An employer will never hire someone for a job who does not take the time
to understand what the job is. Good listeners always end up doing the best
   and getting ahead.

 * Can You Be Trusted?

In this article, Harrison explains the importance of credibility in your
career and in your life. The most important question that you should ask
yourself is whether you can be trusted. Fortunes can fall and be rebuilt, but
once you lose your credibility, you have lost a great deal. Dishonest
individuals may rise rapidly to the top, but they almost always come crashing
down. To be dishonest in any way does not pay off at all. People lose their
faith, are fearful, and will practically never again believe a dishonest
person. A person’s reputation is his/her most valuable asset. It is extremely
fragile and should be protected at all costs. You need to have an explicitly
honest approach, never fail to make others aware of the truth, and never cut
corners. Hence, Harrison states that one of the hallmarks of the most
   successful individuals is their credibility.

 * Government Bailouts, Groups and Your Career

In business, innovation comes from the freedom to operate; stagnation and
failure result when a government attempts to legislate business. Limiting
peoples’ ability to make a certain amount of money undermines business in an
incredible way. Similarly, you need to associate with businesses and groups
where freedom of movement will allow both you ant the company to expand. When
you have more constraints placed on your movement, you face greater problems
and eventually the loss of your job.

 * Remain Calm

Remain calm at all times, and stay focused on the world around you to make
considered decisions before acting. You must remain calm in order to fully
understand people and situations around you, and in turn make better
decisions. Being calm leaves you in greater control than those around you,
and empowers you to react in a level-headed way.

 * Find an Employer with Similar Values

Nothing gets accomplished when peoples’ values are in conflict, so it is very
important to work with an employer who shares your outlook and values. Find a
work environment where you fit in, and where people like you. Value conflicts
with your coworkers can undermine your performance, whereas a harmonious work
environment reinforces your performance and values. Most cases of workplace
excellence involve people in jobs that match their values, and finding this
harmony will change your career and life.

 * Get Security By Concentrating on the Needs of Your Employer

Concentrate on your employer’s needs in order to achieve career stability.
While everyone seeks security, it is detrimental to approach your job search
with this as your main motivator; concentrating instead on the value that you
provide your employer will increase your own value. Give your job your all,
and you will be seen a productive unit in your employer’s organization, and
   security will follow naturally.

 * Athens, Sparta, America and Your Job Search

While Athens prioritized culture and intellectualism, the people of Sparta
devoted themselves to simplicity and discipline. You need to approach your
job search as a Spartan, not an Athenian; don’t retreat from the negative
aspects of your life and current job, but rather make them work for you and
   remain focused on your success.

 * You Need to Be Connected with Others at Work

In this article Harrison discusses the importance of the need to be connected
with others at work. People need to feel connected to others around them.
Everyone needs a group to belong to. Life is more enjoyable when we are
connected to others. If you look around, you will see the many ways you are
trying to connect with others in your life and how much you need this
connection. To be successful—and happy in your career–it is important that
you work with those you feel you can connect with. Because the need to be
connected with people is so important, you should understand that one of the
main needs most people have from work is to connect with others. We all
require connection. You need to ensure you have this connection with others
   in your work.

 * If My Boss Gets Mad at Me or I Get a Poor Review, Does This Mean I Should
   Look for a New Job?

If your boss gets mad at you or if you get a poor review, you should consider
yourself blessed. While few people are willing to work hard to better
themselves and overcome criticism, those who do are the strongest and must
successful. A demanding boss raises the bar, and forces you to become better
and stronger in order to clear it. You must seek out, rather than avoid,
people who challenge you and force you to become greater than you currently
   are.

 * 5 Toxic Behaviors That Push People Away: The Best Way to Recognize These
   Behaviors and Change Them

I have seen the damage toxic behaviors cause. People with these behaviors
have difficulties remaining in relationships, holding onto friends and
acquaintances, keeping jobs and even getting jobs.

 * The Lone Drainer and Carlos the Evil Plumber

Around Los Angeles there is a plumbing service known as the Lone Drainer. The
Lone Drainer typically drives around in a van and responds to various
plumbing issues. To my astonishment, there are Lone Drainers all over. I even
saw a Lone Drainer in Australia...

 * Relationships, Commodities, and Making Connections

When you are a commodity, you can be replaced on a whim and have no value
beyond anyone else in the market. Do something that differentiates you from
others. When you are unique, you are no longer someone whom employers can
easily find on the open market and your value will increase. Establish
yourself as irreplaceable due to your unique skills. Understand your
employers’ needs and desired direction in order to create value for them.

 * The Use of Testimonials and Endorsements in Your Job Search

Proof is itself a tool in your job search and if you employ it effectively,
you will stand ahead of your competition. Reality is subjective, so providing
proof in the form of testimonials can do a lot to sway someone to your way of
thinking. Testimonials, references, and endorsements are worth their measure
in gold, and you should employ them whenever possible.

 * External Sources and False Conflict

There is always a third party of some kind at the root of the conflicts in
your life. Conflicts with others are an inevitable part of your life and
career. When you analyze the conflicts in your life, you will often find that
they are unjustified and created by others rather than by your own internal
issues. When you identify a conflict in your life, determine whether the
source is internal or external to you; once you identify the source, you will
be able to quickly resolve these conflicts and remove impediments to your own
   career.

 * Increasing Efficiency Is Your Best Route to Employment Security

Companies are constantly striving for greater efficiency, and jobs tend to
disappear because they can be done cheaper elsewhere. Consequently, you must
constantly seek to improve your own efficiency in order to retain your value
to your employer. Work to always increase the company’s output at the lowest
possible cost. You will succeed if you find a position where your role is
tied to increasing the efficiency of the company’s work.

 * Women and Men, Planning, and Unemployment

In this article Harrison discusses the difference between the psyche of men
and women and how it reflects in the unemployment rate. Women are more likely
than men to plan their professions. Men are more likely to play the game of
chance with their careers. The difference in the unemployment rate between
men and women shows that women tend to choose jobs that are more stable and
require a bit more planning. There are evolutionary, economic and other
reasons for this, of course, but as a general rule, these choices contribute
to the unemployment rate differences between the sexes. These are lessons
that both men and women can learn from. By choosing more stable and
predictable professions that may pay a little less, women are getting a
different result in these times of high unemployment rates. Planning is
crucial in achieving success in any career.

 * The Butterfly Effect, Pacifiers, and Interconnectedness

Everything is the universe is connected, and nothing exists completely
independently. Since all people are connected by their actions, you can
accomplish nothing without others. Do not resist this universal law of
interconnectedness, and avoid the unhappiness that comes from the belief that
you are separate from others. Connection is a universal law, and one with
which you need to act in accordance.

 * You Will Never Get Away with Not Doing the Right Thing

Years ago, I had someone working for me who was making $10.00 an hour and
involved in all sorts of dishonesty toward me and my companies. She was
disappearing for long periods of time during the day doing personal things
and billing me for her time....

 * The Best Career Advice You Will Ever Receive

In this article Harrison explains how you can use every single negative thing
that happens to you as fuel to drive you forward. Negative things keep
happening in life. Your reaction in such circumstances is the key to whether
you succeed or fail. Do not allow something negative to push you down. The
success of most individuals is largely based on how they handle setbacks. Use
negative experiences to change your life and rechannel your experiences into
something more positive. Experience the pain and then use this pain to fire
you up to do better in the future. The best lessons we get from life are from
the bad things that happen to us. If something bad happens, channel this
energy into something positive. This will change your life and your career.

 * Consistency Is More Important than Brilliance

In this article Harrison talks about the importance of being consistent as
against being brilliant and outstanding in your job. Being consistent is one
of the most important things in a job. People who are consistent have the
best careers in the long run. The better and more extreme someone’s
performance is, the less likely they are to maintain it over time. Things
like always showing up for work, always doing the job, cooperating with
peers, and more are important characteristics. These are the people who
contribute to companies and companies want them in their team. A one-shot
performance is in no one’s best interest. Companies and organizations need
people who are consistent. Sustained effort over time is what really matters.
Harrison is not belittling brilliance and hard work; nevertheless he insists
that you need to be consistent in order to succeed.

 * Be Around Those with High Expectations of You

When people are aware of others’ expectations, they usually perform in
accordance with them. Outside expectations can lead to either your success or
your destruction; surrounding yourself with low expectations can, in turn,
lead you to under-perform and further distance you from your career goals.
When you surround yourself with people with high expectations, however, you
will rise to levels you may not have thought previously possible.

 * One of the Most Significant Lessons I Have Ever Learned about Work

In this article Harrison discusses the role of selflessness and integrity in
work. Harrison believes that when you stop thinking about yourself in
business and concentrate on the needs of others, you begin to do well. It is
one of the most important keys to success. In business you should never focus
on just yourself. Doing a good job should always be your priority.

 * You Must Produce and Do Quality Work

In this article Harrison discusses that in order to really advance in your
career and life you need to improve the quality of your work. The more you
stress quality in your job, the more you will continuously improve. The
better the quality of your work, the more you will be valued by your
employer. When you do the best work you can your co-workers also respect you
more and you have employment security. When looking at employers, you should
also concentrate on working for those whose quality is getting better and
better. The better the quality of the product the business is producing, the
more opportunities they are likely to have in the future for you. The better
the quality of your work, the more opportunities you are also likely to have
in the future. Make quality your first priority.

 * Consciousness, Mindlessness and Your Career

Being unconscious of our surroundings causes us to miss out on many
opportunities. We fail to notice many things immediately around us simply
because we are not expecting them, and thus involuntarily tune out many
potentially great opportunities. You must bring conscious awareness to the
thousands of unconscious decisions you make in your business and personal
lives. The more notice you take of the things around you, the greater your
   consciousness and potential for success.

 * Relationships, Inefficiency, and Your Career

The influence of relationships can inhibit business growth and lead to
disaster. At the same time, however, relationships constitute your greatest
assets in your career. All aspects of your job search and your career depend
on the relationships you cultivate, so you must strive to form the best
relationships possible. You must engender affinity and genuine connections
with those around you to achieve success.

 * Mentors, Attachment Disorders, and Your Career

While your relationship with your parents shapes the future course of your
life, you do not have control over the events of your childhood. Find a
mentor, someone to listen to and guide you going forward will give you
confidence going forward and enhance your chances of success. A good mentor
will give you the psychological grounding and confidence to achieve anything.

 * Being in the Zone

Nothing is more crucial to your career success than being “in the zone”, and
genuinely passionate about your work. Most people, rather than existing in
the zone, merely go through the motions of what they feel others expect of
them in the hopes of achieving wealth and achievement. To reach your full
potential, find work that comes naturally to you, at which you are good, and
that makes you happy. When you have this passion, everything else will fall
into place and outside obstacles will cease to hinder you.

 * Don’t Be Dead Weight-Contribute More Than You Take

One of the most important things you can do in your career is generate value
for your employer far in excess of what you receive back. You can talk your
way into a high-paying job, but you will not remain there unless you provide
more than you take. Organizations thrive when all of their members produce
goods and services efficiently. Your career depends on providing more than
you take, and surrounding yourself with people who do the same.

 * Flow, Your Ego and Your Career

It is importantly that you be totally and completely involved in your work.
When you do this, you establish a flow where time and problems disappear, and
you will find yourself completing tasks with very little effort. Upon
entering a state of flow, you can do your work unconcerned with power,
competition, or recognition, vastly improving your chances of success.
Satisfaction and rewards come when you are one with your work.

 * Do and Give More Than Is Expected of You

In every job, there is always much more to do than what is actually expected
of you; by dong more than expected, you will attract the attention and
respect of your superiors and find your life improving. When you withhold
your best work, however, you only prolong your current situation and confine
yourself to mediocrity. Put everything you can into all of your work, resist
the urge to only put in the expected effort, and you will find your life and
   career approving accordingly.

 * Froth, Downward Wages, and the Importance of Repeat Business

When you give your employer a good value, they will be motivated to keep you
even in the lean times. Nothing is more important to your career than making
sure your employer is satisfied with your work, which will make them likely
to use you over and over again. Working for companies where there is a lot of
froth will present you with more money-making opportunities; understand that
froth moves in cycles, however, and it is more important to have consistent
work than to hold out for ideal market conditions.

 * The Foot-in-the-Door Phenomenon and Your Job Search

Getting your foot in the door is an important, necessary first step towards
getting the job you want. Once you are “in”, your colleagues will protect you
if you work hard and you will have the same opportunity to compete with
others. The biggest step you can make in your progress towards your goals is
to get your prospective employer to let your foot in the door, even if only a
   little.

 * Love Your Work and the People Who Give It to You

In this article Harrison discusses the importance of loving your work and
also the people who give you work. Work is the most important thing you can
have. Without work, everything stops. So respect the work you are doing.
Having work is a privilege and this work can lead to more work. You need to
respect people who give you work and you need to get work at all costs. It is
never good to be without work. Being without work means your skills and value
do not currently have a place. Do the work to the best of your ability. The
only way to advance is by doing good work and exceeding expectations. Doing
good work is crucial to our lives. Make the most of your job and give it your
all. The harder you work, the higher you will climb.

 * The Secret Career Tactic of “Lock In”

Get your employer to commit to you, and keep coming back again and again.
This “lock in” is a tactic that companies use all the time, and one that you
must practice to get and keep jobs. Make an offer to attract an employer, and
then make yourself indispensable. People who fail to lock in their employers
are usually the ones who find themselves laid off.

 * Abraham Lincoln, Bringing People Together, and Your Career

In this article Harrison discusses the power of unifying force in any
organization. The success of your career will largely be determined by your
ability to be a unifying force rather than a divisive force in the
organization you work for, or lead. The world wants people who unify rather
than do the opposite. People who succeed are those who bring together rather
than drive apart. In your life and career, the ability to bring together and
unify is one of the strongest possible skills you can have. The greatest
companies, leaders, and others bring people together and do not drive them
apart. You should ask yourself what you can do to bring people together at
work and in your job. You should lessen friction rather than create friction.
You should do everything you can to make the people around you get along
   together.

 * You Need to Be in Favor with the Right People

In this article Harrison suggests that you need to be in favor with the right
people. These people have an ability to control what happens in your career.
People with strong and influential opinions exist within all companies and
organizations. It is important to cater to and get the approval of people who
have the ability to influence the opinions of others one way or another. When
you go against people with the power to influence others they can turn
against you and make your career and life much more difficult. You do need to
be aware of the game going on and you do need to play it, or at least play
along with it to get ahead.

Life Lessons

 * The Inner Voices, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Your Life

IWhen considering your capabilities, nothing is more exciting than imagining
who and what you will become in life. To do this, however, you must quash the
negative voice in your head telling you to compromise or take the easy way
out. When you see the people who are in a perpetual state of unhappiness,
they are most often the people who listen and succumb to the negative voices
   in their heads.

 * Self-Help Means Helping Others

True self-improvement actually has nothing to do with you, but everything to
do with helping others towards their goals. Remember that nothing you do in
your life is ultimately about you. Your goals and aspirations must be larger
and greater than focusing solely on what you want; helping others will
provide you with more spiritual, financial, and psychological benefits than
   any other kind of self-improvement.

 * The Importance of Disconnecting from Your Work

In this article, Harrison explains the importance of putting in your best
efforts while at work and simply not working when you are not working. This
he calls ‘disconnecting’ from work. Some people perpetually work all the
time, whether at office or outside it. Their minds never get the chance to
recharge and their constant attachment to work proves counterproductive and
is dangerous. Once outside the work place, you need to rapidly put yourself
in another state of mind and begin to enjoy your life and the world around
you. In this way, your mind gets recharged and rejuvenated and you can begin
work the next day with a fresh new perspective. Harrison believes that you
need to develop the profound ability to disconnect from work which in turn
will help you to become more efficient, more detail-oriented, and more
   focused than an average worker.

 * Smash Through Whatever Ceiling You Are Seeing by Concentrating on Your
   Largest Reward

In this article, Harrison explains the importance of smashing that glass
ceiling which you have created in your minds – the ceiling which almost
always pulls you down. To feel that others are more successful because they
are lucky or because you don’t have as much potential is a big myth. You need
to push through this myth and set your own worth and terms for your life, and
believe that you are capable of a lot more than what you think. On doing
this, your relationships, your way of seeing the world, and everything else
around you changes. The glass ceiling exists only in your mind and you need
to simply mould it to think greater of you. Realize the potential in you,
smash the ceiling, and go ahead with a successful life.

 * You Are Not Entitled to Anything

In this article, Harrison explains the importance of understanding the fact
that you are not entitled to anything. One of the greatest blunders that
people make is to believe that they are owed something and also that someone
else is to be blamed for what happens to them. These beliefs are traps and
allow others to take control of their lives. Harrison states that you need to
hold the reigns of your own life, do what you want with it, make the most of
what you are capable of and take responsibility of everything you do. The
scepter should never, under any circumstance, be given to anyone else. Your
achievements, life, and income should be the result of what you achieve and
not others. The people who are the happiest, the most successful, and in
control of their futures realize they are not entitled to anything.

 * Once You Achieve Success, Savor and Enjoy It to the Fullest

Cherish your dreams, goals, and aspirations both while you are seeking them
and after you attain them. If you dream of doing something, never stop short
of the finish line. There is no point to goals or dreams if you do not enjoy
and nurture the results once you achieve them; if you achieve something, you
should make the most of it. If you stop caring once you achieve your goals,
then you will never truly appreciate any of the goals you achieve in the
   future.

 * The Greek Parthenon and Your Career

If you are good at one thing, then you need to make sure you develop a
diversity of skills in case demand for your primary skill goes away. You need
to shape yourself and your career to withstand all kinds of economic and
other climates. Like the Greek Parthenon, you must have a strong foundation
and project strength, supporting yourself with multiple pillars.

 * Ships, Relativity and Your Happiness

People who form their opinions of themselves based of how others are doing
fall into a dangerous trap; do not base your own happiness on how others are
faring. Compare yourself to your own past performance rather than that of
others to measure your growth and happiness. The process of comparing oneself
to others is addictive, and you must free yourself from such unhealthy
contrasts in order to find true happiness.

 * Challenge Yourself and Get Input from Others

Seeking outside input, and taking feedback and criticism from others are
crucial components of your success. The most successful people not only seek
criticism, but seek situations in which they will be challenged and
criticized, and surround themselves with people who are likely to challenge
them. Arranging for regular input from others will help you improve in all
   respects.

 * Winning in Your Job Search and Life Means Going Forward No Matter What
Criticism You Think You May Receive

In this article Harrison discusses how fear of criticism prevents people from
living up to their full potential. Harrison believes that the biggest
achievers in our world are the people who are not afraid to act and are not
afraid of criticism. The skill of finding a job is dependent upon not caring
what other people are saying or will say. The less you fear criticism, the
better job you will get. You need to lead and not follow. People who follow
the rules and spend their time wondering what others will think rarely
achieve very much. The winners in this world are the ones who are acting
despite what others may say, or are saying. The losers are the ones who are
paralyzed with fear and afraid to take action because of what others may say.

 * Tell the Truth

Ever since I moved to Los Angeles years ago I’ve been hearing about a
basketball coach named John Wooden. He’s everywhere.  An athletic club I’ve
frequented has a John Wooden award.  Books have been written about him – good
   books, books...

 * Anthony Robbins, Work, Jobs, Careers, and Missions

In this article Harrison discusses that you absolutely and positively need a
mission and it is going to change your life. When you find something you are
good at, and approach it like a mission, everything changes. A mission is
much more powerful than being good at lots of things. Employers want to hire
people on a mission. Your career needs to be a mission. This is the most
important career advice you will ever receive. The highest state of work is
when you are on a mission. The difference between having a job, or career and
having a mission is huge. A mission will propel you forward. A mission will
bring you everything you ever wanted. A mission will open up opportunities
and will transform your life and career. There is nothing more important than
a mission. You need to be on a mission.

 * We Create Problems So That We Can Grow and Be Happy

In this article Harrison discusses how your problems can help you move
forward. Most of us are never satisfied with what we have and we are
continually seeking more and more of what we do not have. Harrison points out
that problems in life are in a way special gifts which force us to move
ahead. They are a much-needed drug. They seek to challenge us and keep us on
our toes. Embrace your problems. Problems create energy and energy creates
change. You feel the best when you were working through some challenge, with
a solid goal in mind. Problems are the fuel of our life.

 * Jung, Shadows and Your Potential

Come to terms with how you feel and be open about it, and you will be much
less likely to be affected by your dark side. Acknowledge your deepest and
most profound feelings in order to improve your career and life. Your career
will never reach its full potential unless you gain control of the personal
matters that are negatively affecting your life. Allow your unconscious to be
conscious and face what you are avoiding deep down to achieve your potential.

 * What You Want, Do Not Want and Need to Be

When I was younger and less experienced in the ways of business, I made some
huge mistakes. One of the most memorable mistakes I ever made was hiring
someone to work for me for a healthy six-figure salary in a job I did not
   even understand. The person...

 * Concentrate on Your Strengths

In this article, Harrison explains the importance of understanding what your
key strengths are and using them to the best of your ability to be successful
in the work you do. Each person has incredible strengths in them. For some,
these abilities lie hidden but once discovered can change the person’s life.
Harrison believes that you can work to tremendous heights if what you work on
comes naturally to you and you are passionate about it. All you need to do is
to understand what your key strengths are focus on them and once this done,
you are bound to experience immense fulfillment and be successful.

 * Share What You Know

Information is the most important thing you can possess; the more you share
information with your colleagues, the more they in turn will share
information with you. Never try to protect information, but share it freely
lest others move away from you in favor of others more giving with their
information. When you withhold information from others, you inhibit your own
growth; the more you share, the more others will reciprocate.

 * The Danger of Driving Sharp Bargains

The most successful people in the world create so much value for others that
everyone wants to do business with them, and return to them over and over.
Driving sharp bargains, however, typically backfires and can cause you more
problems than benefits. Whenever you get a good deal you should consider
yourself lucky, but you should never push for the best deal possible because
your behavior will likely alienate others.

 * Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and Taking Your Thoughts and Life Out of the
   Shadows

You must learn to see the world differently in order to find a job, change
your life’s direction, and become the person that you want to be. Take
advantage of the opportunities that are in front of you. The people who have
achieved incredible success over the years where those who stepped out of
their comfort zones and discovered new ways of doing things. The potential
rewards for stepping out of your comfort zone are huge.

 * How to Manage Crisis

Crisis is among the most challenging things that anyone can face, and many
people cannot cope and fail in the face of it. To survive in the midst of a
crisis, look to the future. Doing so will make you feel more confident about
your current situation. Crises can force you to reexamine your life, and make
you seek out potential opportunities. The future can always be better than
the present or past, and focusing on the future can be incredibly positive
and guide you out of what may have been a rut.

 * Do Not Allow Others to Prey on Your Fantasies

People all around you prey on common fantasies of wealth, jobs, health, and
other things; the prospect of instant gratification is naturally appealing to
people frustrated with life’s difficulties. The only proven route to success,
however, is through personally taking actions and building momentum over
time. The idea over instant change is an attractive fantasy, but only that; a
fantasy perpetuated by others preying on your desires rather than helping
   you.

 * Why You Should Be Suspicious of Flattery and Listen Closely to Criticism

A year or so ago, a film producer called me and told me he was going to make
me quite famous. He had been reading my columns and believed that my interest
in writing, combined with my “look”, would translate into national greatness.
   He told me that...

The Importance of Being Well-Liked in Your Job

In this article Harrison discusses the importance of being well-liked in your
job. Being well-liked is necessary for success in any job and in advancing your
career. If your co-workers or your superiors do not like you, your career in
your organization may be doomed. If you are isolated from others within your
organization, it is far easier to let you go in times of economic uncertainty.
Harrison gives certain pointers to ensure that you are well-liked in your job.
He talks about staying away from cliques, never saying anything bad about any
co-worker, making your superiors feel important, listening instead of talking,
participating in group activities and being non-confrontational. To advance, you
need to keep out of trouble and be well-liked.

amount and type of energy that you put into your life will always return to you
in kind.

The Greatest Secret of Billionaires, 95-Year-Old Attorneys and the Retirement
Myth

Do work that you love, and make it part of your life and identity. Success comes
to people who love what they are doing, because their work becomes part of their
lives, and there ceases to be a separation between work and pleasure for them.
If you are not doing something that you could not imagine yourself doing into
your old age, then you are probably in the wrong profession.

The Inner Voices, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Your Life

IWhen considering your capabilities, nothing is more exciting than imagining who
and what you will become in life. To do this, however, you must quash the
negative voice in your head telling you to compromise or take the easy way out.
When you see the people who are in a perpetual state of unhappiness, they are
most often the people who listen and succumb to the negative voices in their
heads.

Self-Help Means Helping Others

True self-improvement actually has nothing to do with you, but everything to do
with helping others towards their goals. Remember that nothing you do in your
life is ultimately about you. Your goals and aspirations must be larger and
greater than focusing solely on what you want; helping others will provide you
with more spiritual, financial, and psychological benefits than any other kind
of self-improvement.

Discover What You Do Best: We All Have Something

In this article, Harrison stresses on the fact that everyone needs to discover
what their real abilities are and who they really want to be. Each one is
gifted. The only problem lies in the fact that most people do not know what they
are really good at. Negative messages come from all around and curb the real
talents buried deep within you. You need to discover your true talents and be
the real ‘you’. Your dreams should not in any way be directed by others. Your
dreams are ‘yours’ and what makes the real ‘you’. Never give up on them. Each
one of us has something that is unique and exceptional. Concentrate on your
strengths and find and be the person you want to be.

Ducks, Semi Trucks, Upscale Doctors’ Offices, and Your Destiny

Do something that comes naturally to you; if you feel there is something wrong
in your life or career, it is probably because you are engaged in work that does
not come naturally to you.. No matter what your interests, there is work out
there at which you would excel and with which you would be comfortable. You must
find work that you enjoy, and make sure that it comes naturally to you.

Setting Goals Is Their Attainment

Setting in-depth goals really works, as it causes an unseen force to motivate
you, and make you believe that you can accomplish them. Defining your purpose is
merely your starting your point; a definite purpose takes on a life of its own
when backed by a desire to translate that purpose into its material equivalent.
Determine your destination, and set goals that will assist you in getting there.

Seek the Experience and Knowledge of Others in Your Job Search

Use every available asset in your job search, including people; network with
your peers and ask them about their own job searches. In doing this, you are
taking advantage of the knowledge and experience of others, who have done the
work that can influence your own job hunting success. Seek out this knowledge
and learn from the experiences of others.

The Holidays Are the Best Time to Search for a Job

In this article, Harrison provides a very interesting theory regarding the most
suitable time to apply for a job. Searching for a job and applying for the same
should be intensely calculated activities in a person’s career. You should
seriously and critically analyze what the factors are that would help in you
getting hired. As Harrison states, the holiday season is one of the best times
to apply for a job and get interviewed. There is less competition, employers are
in a happier disposition, there is less pressure of work on their shoulders, the
temperament is more tilted towards giving than taking, and the basic mood
prevailing is one of sharing, kindness and empathy. Harrison believes that this
should be seen as the best opportunity to get hired and urges you towards it.

Communicate Your Value: How to Get a Job and Keep It

In this article Harrison talks about the role of communication in getting a job
and keeping it. Harrison believes that communicating our value is something we
all must do to get jobs and also to keep our jobs. One of the biggest mistakes
people make when interviewing for jobs (or in their current jobs) is failing to
communicate their value frequently and in detail. The company you work for, or
want to work for, cannot possibly know the multitude of ways in which you can
contribute. You need to make the people around you aware of who you are and what
you can do.

To Succeed in Any Job You Need to Create Work

In this article Harrison discusses that your ability to create productive work
can bring you success in your career. The opportunity to work is an important
part of your existence. Work is a path to mental and economic stability; it
brings happiness and purpose in our lives. When you create work you always have
something to do and you are always adding value. Truly stellar performers have
the ability to consistently create work that the company values. You need to
create work in your job; at the same time you need to stay away from people who
are critical of the act of work. Work is healthy for you. Your identity and
life, for the most part, revolve around work. Harrison firmly believes that
cherishing your work and creating more work will change your career and life for
better.

Watching for Waste in Your Job

In this article Harrison talks about the difference between people who survive
in recessions, and those who end up being cut. When a recession is at hand, or
when an industry is experiencing a contraction, companies very quickly become
interested in saving as much money as possible. They look around to see who is
working hard and adding value and who is not. In your job, you need to ensure
that you are providing as much value as possible. People who do not put in extra
effort, or who cause lots of waste in the company, may find they are out of a
job when a recession or restructuring hits.

King Henry II and Understanding Your Employer

In this article Harrison discusses the importance of listening to, and
understanding the other side’s point of view. Harrison feels that a lot of the
economic crisis in the country is because people fail to understand one another.
The biggest problems why businesses fail is that people want things to be in a
certain way and are afraid to listen to what needs to be done to change this.
People often assume they know what someone else needs or what they are entitled
to. People do this without having any information whatsoever about where the
other person is coming from. This never works. Harrison concludes that the most
important thing you can often do to keep a job, get a job, and more is take the
time to listen and ensure you understand the other person’s point of view.

How to Survive and Succeed in Your Job

In this article Harrison discusses the importance of being well informed to be
able to succeed in any job. Information is the key to survival in any company or
organization that one joins and wants to remain part of. Getting access to
information when you start a job and using that information intelligently is
crucial to survival in any job. When you are interviewing for a job, it is
extremely important that you understand exactly what the job is. An employer
will never hire someone for a job who does not take the time to understand what
the job is. Good listeners always end up doing the best and getting ahead.

The Power of Perceptions

Perceptions matter more than facts; others’ perceptions of you, your perceptions
of others, and how you control both are the most important aspects of your
career. Realize the power of perceptions in your life and use them to your
advantage. Aim to control and shape the perceptions that others hold about you
by shaping the image that you project to the world.

Job Opportunities Are Everywhere

In this article Harrison talks about how a positive mindset can help you succeed
in your job. Harrison believes that getting a job has lot to do with how you
think and the way you put your mind to use. A strong positive mindset can help
you succeed in the job market. You have to think and believe that opportunity is
everywhere. You need to be persistent and strongly believe in the end result
ahead of time. You also need to believe and exhibit that you will add value to
your potential employer. This mindset will impress employers and will increase
your value.

Never Fib or Stretch the Truth on Your Résumé or in Interviews

In this article Harrison explains why you should never exaggerate your
qualifications on your resume or in your interviews. Achievements and what you
have done are important, but the most important thing is how likable you are.
Come across as someone who tries hard, makes an effort, learns from mistakes, is
loyal, helps the company, and who is going to be a stable addition to the
company. People are not hired because of some isolated accomplishment from their
past. It is very important to be yourself and to present yourself as a likable
individual and a team player. Being caught up in a lie or exaggeration is not in
your best interest and it weakens your case dramatically in the eyes of an
employer.

The Importance of Disconnecting from Your Work

In this article, Harrison explains the importance of putting in your best
efforts while at work and simply not working when you are not working. This he
calls ‘disconnecting’ from work. Some people perpetually work all the time,
whether at office or outside it. Their minds never get the chance to recharge
and their constant attachment to work proves counterproductive and is dangerous.
Once outside the work place, you need to rapidly put yourself in another state
of mind and begin to enjoy your life and the world around you. In this way, your
mind gets recharged and rejuvenated and you can begin work the next day with a
fresh new perspective. Harrison believes that you need to develop the profound
ability to disconnect from work which in turn will help you to become more
efficient, more detail-oriented, and more focused than an average worker.

Concentrate on Your Contribution

In this article, Harrison explains the secret behind successful people and the
biggest difference between them and those who fail to grow. Most people fail to
succeed because they constantly evaluate the rewards they get rather than direct
their efforts towards solid constructive work. Successful people on the other
hand, are always focused on their work, concentrated on their contributions, and
dedicated towards generating value. Unlike others, they do not think about the
rewards and are highly passionate about the work they are doing. This
characteristic Harrison believes, is what leads to a person’s growth and
success.

The Best Career Advice You Will Ever Receive

In this article Harrison explains how you can use every single negative thing
that happens to you as fuel to drive you forward. Negative things keep happening
in life. Your reaction in such circumstances is the key to whether you succeed
or fail. Do not allow something negative to push you down. The success of most
individuals is largely based on how they handle setbacks. Use negative
experiences to change your life and rechannel your experiences into something
more positive. Experience the pain and then use this pain to fire you up to do
better in the future. The best lessons we get from life are from the bad things
that happen to us. If something bad happens, channel this energy into something
positive. This will change your life and your career.

Love What You Do

In this article, Harrison explains how important it is to love the work you are
doing. Being good in the work at hand is one thing, being truly passionate about
it is another. Harrison believes that your performance level will significantly
rise if you love your work. Being genuinely happy about the work you do inspires
you to work more and work better. People who work primarily for money are
generally those who work less, contribute less, and are not interested in
long-term relationships with their work or their employers. In contrast to them,
are those who harbor a heartfelt passion about their work deep inside them,
which helps them reach great heights in any discipline. So it’s only natural
that you gain advancement and a true feeling of fulfillment when you really love
your work.

Smash Through Whatever Ceiling You Are Seeing by Concentrating on Your Largest
Reward

In this article, Harrison explains the importance of smashing that glass ceiling
which you have created in your minds – the ceiling which almost always pulls you
down. To feel that others are more successful because they are lucky or because
you don’t have as much potential is a big myth. You need to push through this
myth and set your own worth and terms for your life, and believe that you are
capable of a lot more than what you think. On doing this, your relationships,
your way of seeing the world, and everything else around you changes. The glass
ceiling exists only in your mind and you need to simply mould it to think
greater of you. Realize the potential in you, smash the ceiling, and go ahead
with a successful life.

You Are Not Entitled to Anything

In this article, Harrison explains the importance of understanding the fact that
you are not entitled to anything. One of the greatest blunders that people make
is to believe that they are owed something and also that someone else is to be
blamed for what happens to them. These beliefs are traps and allow others to
take control of their lives. Harrison states that you need to hold the reigns of
your own life, do what you want with it, make the most of what you are capable
of and take responsibility of everything you do. The scepter should never, under
any circumstance, be given to anyone else. Your achievements, life, and income
should be the result of what you achieve and not others. The people who are the
happiest, the most successful, and in control of their futures realize they are
not entitled to anything.

The Importance of and How to Find a Mentor

If you are unemployed, or need a new job, there are many strategies you can use
to get a new position. However, nothing is more important or can be more
drastically effective than having a strong mentor on your side. Anything I could
tell you about interviewing, cover letters, resumes, or tracking down jobs would
pale in comparison to what a good mentor can do for you. Having a good mentor is
hugely important.

The Importance of Productivity, Focus, and Measurement

You must hone your ability to block out external stimuli and focus solely on the
work you provide for your employer, not what you can take from the company. High
focus leads to high productivity, which in turn leads to high value. Attaining
such a high degree of focus will make you much in demand in the business world
and in society at large. Productivity should be measures either by you, or by
your employer, and the most successful companies are usually those who
prioritize keeping track of their employees’ productivity.

The Job Search Market in a Bad Economy

In this article, Harrison explains what actually happens with attorneys during a
recession. On studying this aspect, Harrison discovers that jobs involving
transactional work slow down in comparison to litigation related jobs.
Similarly, there is a dramatic fall in corporate, securities, and real estate
related jobs. Even patent work enters law firms relatively slower than when the
economy is bustling.

Plan for Success – Not Failure

Plan to be happy rather than sad, and plan for greatness rather than simply
attempting once and giving up in the face of failure. Plan to overcome negative
trends or precedents in your life. Plan for the best possible outcome, and
ignore the negative voices of others in favor of positive, inspirational
messages.

Once You Achieve Success, Savor and Enjoy It to the Fullest

Cherish your dreams, goals, and aspirations both while you are seeking them and
after you attain them. If you dream of doing something, never stop short of the
finish line. There is no point to goals or dreams if you do not enjoy and
nurture the results once you achieve them; if you achieve something, you should
make the most of it. If you stop caring once you achieve your goals, then you
will never truly appreciate any of the goals you achieve in the future.

Never Give Up

In this article Harrison speaks about the need to adopt the attitude of never
giving up. According to him however difficult the task be, you need to strive
hard to accomplish it. You have to struggle and make an attempt to rise every
time you fail. You need to stimulate your efforts and try again and again till
you achieve the desired end result. Just like the baby giraffe is kicked
repeatedly by the mother giraffe, so that it learns to stand on its own legs.
You have to drive your dreams to make them a reality. Failure is not the end; it
is a stepping stone to success.

Job Hopping: It Is Always About You

Many people have a single weakness that they have failed to address, which holds
them back in their careers and leads to job hopping. Job hopping indicates that
something is wrong with a person’s attitudes and outlook rather than with their
employers. Identify and fix the things that are holding you back rather than
leaving your position when you should not, and much more success and happiness
will come to you.

Always Be Willing to Readjust

In this article, Harrison explains how nothing is permanent, everything faces a
change at some point or another, and that everyone should possess the ability to
readjust to the new situation. Your responsibilities and daily duties could end,
businesses could end, and jobs could be lost without a reason or warning. You
need to accept the fact that anything is possible and the comfort zone in which
you might be in may just vanish one fine day. It is on such a situation that
your ability to be flexible counts most. Learning new things, being with new
colleagues, holding new responsibilities should be accepted very positively.
Dramatic changes could occur in the job scenario, but you need to be ready for
the change. You should never hold on to the past and constantly look towards the
future. Change is natural and inevitable and Harrison believes that it should
pave a path for progress and development.

Consistency Is More Important than Brilliance

In this article Harrison talks about the importance of being consistent as
against being brilliant and outstanding in your job. Being consistent is one of
the most important things in a job. People who are consistent have the best
careers in the long run. The better and more extreme someone’s performance is,
the less likely they are to maintain it over time. Things like always showing up
for work, always doing the job, cooperating with peers, and more are important
characteristics. These are the people who contribute to companies and companies
want them in their team. A one-shot performance is in no one’s best interest.
Companies and organizations need people who are consistent. Sustained effort
over time is what really matters. Harrison is not belittling brilliance and hard
work; nevertheless he insists that you need to be consistent in order to
succeed.
