HUSBAND IGNORES FAMILY EMERGENCY TO TAKE A NAP, TRIES TO PUT ALL THE BLAME ON
HIS WIFE

Jonas Grinevičius and
Justinas Keturka

A large part of being an adult is about learning to manage your time. As we grow
up, we generally tend to have more responsibilities. Meanwhile, the sheer number
of things we have to do can make us exhausted. That means that we have to adapt
and set aside at least some hobbies that we used to love or learn to fit them
better into our busy schedules. Playing video games all night when you’ve got a
job and a family becomes harder to do.

However, one particular dad still prioritizes his entertainment, at the cost of
his relationship with his wife and kids. He plays video games at night, goes to
work, comes back dead tired, and demands that his family leave him alone for 2
whole hours while he naps. He even locks the bedroom door.

Even though we’re huge supporters of short siestas, in this particular case, the
napping is obviously out of control. And the entire situation came to a head
when a massive family emergency happened at home while the husband was napping.
Scroll down for the full story, dear Pandas. Just one note of warning—the story
is incredibly infuriating and reeks of injustice. The mods behind the AITA
subreddit had to lock the thread because of how some people expressed their
outrage.

RIGHT AT HOME

Most redditors were appalled by the fact that the dad kept napping through the
entire family emergency after his toddler son got hot oil spilled on his hand.

But, if possible, probably the worst part was the fallout that came later. The
dad was angry that nobody told him that they went to the hospital. He then tried
to push all the blame on his wife for not supervising their son. She finally had
enough and removed the lock from the bedroom door. What do you think of the
entire drama, dear Pandas? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Whether you’re sitting in front of a computer or console, pretending to be a
couch potato in front of the television, or scrolling through endless cat pics
on your phone, you’re still spending your time in front of a screen. In
moderation, these activities are great. But moderation is difficult to find when
entertainment is so easily accessible.

A while back, Bored Panda spoke about not letting our interests consume us with
psychologist and wellbeing consultant Lee Chambers. He spoke to us at length
about the line between enjoying TV and having our lives run by it.

“Watching the latest shows isn’t a bad thing, entertainment can be a great way
to relax, often starts great conversations and helps us to explore ourselves in
the context of others. It is worth remembering that some TV as an addition to a
modern well-lived life is a net positive,” he said.

“But as soon as it starts to invade your sleep, impact what you eat, and how
much you move your body, it starts subtracting from the fundamentals that keep
us in an optimal place as human beings,” Lee stressed to Bored Panda how to
recognize when we should start getting worried.

“A lack of sleep compounds in a variety of negative ways, and we are well aware
of the challenges we face as a society around eating and movement. We also need
to consider the mental and psychological benefits of watching some TV and taking
ownership; being in control of what you watch is a great place to be, so ensure
you are the master of the TV and don’t let the TV become the master of you,” he
told us.

“If you notice yourself starting to delay your sleep, take shortcuts
socializing, eating, or keeping fit to keep your TV company, or feel like it’s
in control of you, it’s time to take a step back and build a routine that you
can control while still enjoying your favorite shows in moderation. It can even
be a lot of fun to take it more slowly and build up excitement and anticipation
for the next episode!”

PEOPLE WERE HORRIFIED BY WHAT HAPPENED AND HAD SOME VERY STRONG OPINIONS. HERE’S
WHAT SOME REDDITORS THOUGHT

The husband doesn't exist. The post is for karma farming, just like 99% of AITA

Ignore Tom. Tom never has anything nice to say when he comments, somehow even
less nice if a woman is involved.

I mean I love video games and often stay up late to play them and even usually
take a nap when I get home. However I do not have the responsibilities this man
does. And I always make sure to have my phone on in case of emergencies.

ummm I have so many questions, like where's your car? Why is he napping like a
child? My husband is a night owl always has been, goes to bed at 1 or 2 am and
gets up at 4 for work. EVERY. DAY. He also cooks, cleans, takes care of the
kids, does laundry etc. Your husband isn't playing video games honey, he's
cheating or about too. No man keeps a console locked up. There's something else
going on. You need to leave like now. He's a POS.

And not every adult can drive, Not to mention at the age her son is she probably
needed to be dealing with him not driving.

When you're really upset and distressed it's a very smart choice not to drive
yourself.

You don't know that she is able to drive. I know quite a few adults who never
felt the urge to learn how to drive.

They don't have to have two cars in order for her to have a car. Could be they
have one car and it's THEIR car... making referring to it as YOUR car totally
appropriate.

This is only my opinion, but once one becomes a parent, it is necessary to know
how to drive. This is a great case in point. Otherwise, if he did lock himself
in the room with the keys to their only car, that's a whole other level of
assholery.

Agreed. I'm sorry but the excuse of "not every adult wants to drive" that's just
impractical when you have a family UNLESS you live in an area where public
transport is abundant. I do not, so I'm not used to one car families. If that
makes sense.

Depends on where you live (US then it is likely best) but people's reasons
differ. I had major anxiety around driving and mine wasn't as bad as other
people I know

If she doesn't have access to a car/transportation, that's putting his behavior
in "abuse" and "isolation" territory.

No not necessarily. Not every family can afford two cars. That's just the
reality of life. Several of my friends growing up only had one car in the family
and neither parent was abusive, or isolating each other.

If he's locking her out and she has no access to transportation then, yes, it's
definitely isolation bordering on abuse.

Don't need 2 cars to have access. We only have one, but I have my own keys and
access to the car anytime it's at home. If they only have one set and he locked
it in with him she does not have access

No it's not. Nowhere does it say that, or she probably wouldn't even know her
neighbor. She may not know how to drive; obviously could have been too upset to
drive; or probably just needed to tend to her child on the ride to the hospital.

I thought he might be hiding more than an addiction to video games. If he didn't
ignore or but really was sleeping that deeply, he's on some substance. Please
check your bank account and have a divorce lawyer on speed dial. He obviously
doesn't care about you or the family.

I have so many of them as well. Is this guy gaming with Markaplier and Septic
Jack, or Neebs Gaming? Is he making a substantial sum of money and ready to do
this full-time to support his family and making a very healthy income on Steam
or something? I can't imagine his need for the extremes he's going to for his
gaming addiction. His behavior towards his children and wife are unacceptable.
He's a vile and loathsome excuse for a man..I can't imagine having my children
exposed to this person. He's setting a horrible example as a parent. I agree
with you and the consensus that she'd be better off with him not in her life.
He's an extremely toxic person.

Not disagreeing, you make good points, but she replied to a comment that she
doesn't drive for health reasons. I don't drive either for health reasons, I'm
not going to risk others due to my eyesight being so bad, though I do admit
sometimes I'd like the independence and not rely on my husband everytime. I know
enough in case he has a medical emergency of some kind while driving.
