The first being red tape suggesting two “lanes” up the stairs and the second being a small median dividing off personal workspace on a couch in a study or lounge area. Overall our group wanted to explore how small medians or dividers affect how people interact in a space and how utilizing abstract, minimalist barriers ultimately increases capacity and efficiency. After observing people interacting with the prototypes and asking each passersby what they thought of the final implementations we determined that ultimately the solutions were effective in working toward optimizing the space. OVERVIEW: Analysis: During my observation I couldn’t help but notice that there is a lot of wasted space on campus at any given time; be it in the dining room with people refusing to sit adjacent to each other choosing to rather take up 4 person tables, or in a study room where a couch quickly turns into an individual seat merely because people feel uncomfortable without defined personal space. Ideation: With my group in class, we discussed how efficiency and space could be optimized on campus. We then individually sketched different study space designs and other abstract ways to utilize space better on campus. Prototyping: During the prototyping stage, we attempted to make a myriad of different solutions to the shared issues we attempted to solve with our sketched designs. We both made a multitude of different cardboard medians but we also installed a couple of different versions of the stairway “lane” suggestions. We hope that by utilizing abstract, minimalist barriers that people tend to adhere to it will somehow increasing capacity. If our first prototypes we talked about splitting up sitting (sofas) because people tend to not want to sit next to a stranger without some sort of barrier allotting off personal space. We then moved on to thinking about how lines on the ground increase efficiency (traffic lanes, bikes lanes…) So we thought about how this could possibly increase efficiency on certain stairwells where people tend to not adhere to the left and right hand lanes on their own; the line on the ground in this case being a suggestion. In all of our prototypes involving the two different lanes we changed the color and size of the line, hoping to not be abrasive visually but still eye-catching. 1 Likes Share PROJECT 2: PROCESS UPDATE (STAGE 2) December 05, 2019 1 Likes Share View fullsize WELL ISN'T THAT PROTO-TYPICAL!? As we cut down the time It was necessary to simplify descriptions to their core elements and attempt to not lose the power of the description. It was amazing witnessing how diverse the problems and solutions were for each group. 0 Likes Share NOM NOM ASSIGNMENT *IDEATION* October 17, 2019 Design Foundations: Ideation Nom-Nom (10/17/2019) Group Members: Kyle Smith, Andrew Barlow, Olivia Blankenship Problem #1: Nice meals are expensive, you can’t go out to a nice meal if you have no money Solution: Paying off nice meals in increments after the meal Problem #2: Healthy foods are hard to access- especially for the impoverished. Solution: Healthy fast food restaurants Problem #3: How do you find restaurants that have the food you like? Solution- Food “cookie” ads like on a computer/phone/tablet- how can you get suggestions for restaurants that have food that you eat regularly? Problem #4: Want to cook but don’t have a lot of food at house and don’t want to go to store App that gives you recipes based on what you have already at home OR- App that gives you recipe, list of what you need, and easiest way to access those items when at the store, or delivers ingredients to your house Problem #5: Want to go out to eat but don’t have a lot of time or want to wait Solution- Ordering food ahead of time so it is ready when you get to the restaurant Problem #6: Running late Solution- Screen on bathroom mirror so you can start your coffee being made while you are getting ready Problem #7: People with food allergies at restaurants Solution- Digital menu that allows you to filter the food based on your dietary restrictions so you know before you go to the restaurant Problem #8: Need to preheat oven before you get home- it takes a lot of time Solution- “Smart oven” that you can preheat from your home We decided to combine two ideas: “Digital menu that allows you to filter the food based on your dietary restrictions so you know before you go to the restaurant” and “Ordering food ahead of time so it is ready when you get to the restaurant” This would be an embedded online menu program. 0 Likes Share LETTER S October 10, 2019 As a group, we agreed that the letter S signifies not only strength and sophistication, but also class and something of a sultry nature. We decided on Neothic as our typeface in order to represent strength within the S. Rather than using the font to portray the softer side of the letter, we thought it would be much more appealing to the viewer if we relied on the illustrations. This font expresses sophistication to the viewers as it is typically used with informational material. In terms of the illustrations, we went with adding flowers on top of the S to signify that although this soft illustration contrasts with the expression of the font, it is equally important when thinking of the essence of the letter. Rather than crowding the letter with flowers, we strategically placed one large flower to avoid chaos and any misunderstandings of the message we hope to portray. Additionally, we intentionally included a wine colored flower to represent sultriness of the letter. Final ⇧ ⇦ Our first version before we decided to do an overall image treatment. But here’s the catch- you’ll be pitching your “self” to a partner, and you’ll each design each other’s logos.” Partner: Brie Musser ⇧ Drafting ⇦ Final Version(s) 0 Likes Share COLOR ZINES September 27, 2019 In this assignment we had the challenge of selecting an adjective, placing it in Adobe Color and selecting one of the first few swatches as our entire color pallet. We then, as a group, using only that pallet, had to design a magazine cover with the adjective as the Title. We chose the adjective “Dapper” Our selected swatch: Our final design: 0 Likes Share MOVE ME September 12, 2019 Synopsis: A small-town father and policemen, Clark Smith is faced with his worst nightmare — a vigilante arsonist that will not hold back until he pushes the town to the brink of insanity. Will Clark, fighting his own internal demons, catch the killer or will the town burn to the ground? Many secrets are revealed in the psychological, horror-thriller ASH. Design: In this design, I wanted to push the boundaries of hyper minimalism. I originally made a design that included text from a bible verse: the first reference to Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust, (Genesis 3:19) but I quickly realized that the design didn’t adhere to the 90% whitespace part of the assignment and I had to quickly, in the last 10 minutes of class, come up with a new, original idea. I tried to use my own handwritten font as inspiration for the poster while also trying to tie in the power of nostalgia with the two-tone dots, signifying the “ash”. 1 Likes Share PERSONAL DOCUMENTATION September 05, 2019 Early in life, I learned the importance of self expression and the power of visual and written art. While I was exploring my artistic side I also found a passion for engineering and technology. Before discovering TAM my two passions ran parallel, intersecting every once and awhile, but, for the most part, mutually exclusive. As a TAM student I hope to pursue artistic and creative brilliance while all the time pushing for computational and technical innovation. This Progress Blog will document my exploration within the world of creative technology and design. Each entry will hopefully give insight into my growth as an artist and designer. I am overwhelmed with excitement as I prepare to explore the next Renaissance: Technology/Art/Design. 2 Likes Share FEATURED POSTS: Featured Sep 5, 2019 Personal Documentation Sep 5, 2019 Sep 5, 2019
