I have always felt it was quite rude to ask someone if their (especially
unlabeled) dog is a service dog because even if the question is asked
innocently, you are asking if someone requires assistance and/or has a
disability. I understand that it is a normalized question to ask, but I do not
find it be appropriate… to me, it’s like asking someone why they have a
wheelchair.

If I say “yes”, I’m now publicly sharing that I require assistance but if I say
“no”.. what if she is?

The reality is, whether or not my dog tasks is honestly no one’s business, and
whether or not I want that to be public information, is my decision alone.

I’m so glad you guys love my dog and her training but I also do love my privacy
and I will not share things I do not feel comfortable sharing, so please stop
asking.

It is our greatest pleasure to announce that Ghost has been successfully adopted
by a wonderful family. His transition has been going extremely well and he has
already fallen in love with his new owners & befriended their other dog.

They are local enough for us to continue providing support with check in visits
and training sessions, which we are already so excited for.

We are very excited for ghost’s life with them as we know he will be very happy
and fulfilled in their care. 🫶🏻

I’m going to try make this as professional as possible …

A little bit of back story… as working dog handlers and behavior modification
dog trainers, we consider it almost a duty to working dogs in need to whenever
possible, be able to make time & space to take in board+train & rehome cases. We
are fortunate enough to be able to do so and eat the costs that goes into caring
and training the dogs. We do not have adoption fees, charge for post-adoption
training sessions, etc. either, as we are trying to help the adopting family as
much as we can. Our most recent rehome case has been a misunderstood &
mishandled German shepherd that we took in during our vacation back in June.

Our professional evaluation of ghost is that he was mishandled and set up to
fail too many times, pushing him to taking action and begin nipping at and
charging at people in order to take control over situations he felt
uncomfortable in. I was not aware of just how mishandled he had been until
recently, when his previous owner publicly put him on blast in an effort of
sharing her story.

I’m going to make this very clear: ghost is not inherently dangerous, but he -
like all dogs - needs to be respected or you will see behaviors that are not
conducive to harmonious pet living. It is my understanding that while he has
very high food drive, he is a pet bred dog that would do well as an active pet.

I’m going to make this even clearer:
If you’ve given or are thinking of giving your dog to someone to train and
rehome for you, do them a favor and tuck your own tail, remain humbled, and put
your ego on the shelf while THEY do the work to train and find your dog the
right home.

Maybe don’t publicly state just how much you fuzzed it up and then chalk it up
to the dog being what you think is Godzilla and blaming everyone around you for
your poor choices and decision making.

Maybe wait until the dog you decided to make someone else’s responsibility to
figure out, to have a happy ending of being properly trained and successfully
rehomed.

Please take your dogs outside when it’s raining and make it a fun time! We meet
way too many dogs that are anxious and uncomfortable being outside when it’s
raining… they don’t want to walk, go potty, or some don’t even want to go
outside at all. Socialize your dog to the rain so that they aren’t limited by it

Chalking up a dogs out of control aggression behaviors to the statement “I do
everything I can but these dogs are bred to bite”… is one of the most amateur
statements.

If your dog is bred to bite - malinois, WL German shepherd, Dutch shepherd,
etc.- then they should also be being bred to be stable enough that if you’re
truly “doing everything you can..” then they should not be biting out of
control. and if your dog really is bred to bite and is either not social and/or
stable, making them less predictable and safe… if you can’t keep the people
around you safe from your dog, you probably shouldn’t have that dog.

At the VERY LEAST, you should be muzzling them, especially if you’re working
through their issues with training.

Being “in control” should not be dependent on having control over those around
you as well. You can’t say you have total control over your dog if the qualifier
for that is everyone around you holding up the pieces too. If you can’t have
control over your dog’s behavior when those around you are failing you and your
dog… you need to put your dog away. That’s having control.

If you’re trying your best, I applaud you. I’m here for you and if you reach
out, I will help you as best I can. But if you call yourself a professional at
the same time of saying “I do everything I can but my dogs are bred to bite, so
they’re gonna bite”, just know that at leasy in my opinion, you’re actually an
amateur.

Ghost (available for adoption) got to come with to the shogun working dogs PSA
trial this weekend! He was fantastic.

He is a 1.5 year old male German shepherd dog who has been with us since June to
work on his overall foundation so that he can be adopted out to the perfect fit
home.

He is not the driviest dog but he does love his food and he does love to train,
explore, and have fun. He is neutral -even relatively social- to other dogs but
he did come to us with some issues revolving people, mostly in his
home/territory… however, with the right handling, structure, confidence building
and boundaries in place, he has been thriving with no issues at all.

He does have a history of being defensive, especially when put into situations
that make him uncomfortable… he is very much a young, inexperienced,
misunderstood, German shepherd. He doesn’t have that much interest in
interacting with strangers, especially in his home environment, but he has been
very easy to guide into living harmoniously as a safe, active pet.

Success with a dog is not best measured by how obedient the dog is, but rather
the relationship that they have with their owner.

We can’t ignore that dog breeds have specific genetics for accomplishing
different tasks or participating in our lives differently… if your dog can’t do
a focused heel like my dog, that’s ok. (Also my dog can’t do nearly as “nice” of
a focused heel as many other dogs).

The standard we hold our dogs to should be to the dog in front of us, not the
dog on social media.

Be proud of the accomplishments and success you have with your dog, and keep on
training and having fun
