   LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER

Welcome to collaborative and solution based help to experience joy, success
and purpose in your life. For over 25 years I have worked with adults,
couples, families, adolescents and children in Maryland. My practice is
culturally and ethnically diverse. I founded the group practice
Classen-Miller & Associates which offers a full range of clinical approaches
for all age groups with our licensed clinicians reflecting the full diversity
   of our community.

My approach is integrative using cognitive/behavioral (CBT), psychodynamic,
dialectical (DBT) approaches and family systems. I help clients combine
insights and understanding with behavioral changes vital to personal and
professional growth. My areas of expertise include
depression/anxiety/bipolar/psychosis, eating disorders, substance abuse and
   family/couples/children issues.

If you are struggling with an eating disorder, the level of care and kind of
treatment you are receiving are essential in helping you to feel better. My
extensive experience working in private practice and in clinics treating
eating disorders allows me to offer thorough assessment and comprehensive
   treatment (Maudsley approach if appropriate).

   LICENSED CLINICAL PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR

My clinical training and professional background is in community counseling,
with a focus on addictions, mental health disorders, and grief and trauma. I
work with children (age 5 and up), adolescents, and adults. My therapeutic
presence is naturally open, accepting, and warm. I am very goal-oriented with
my clients, as I believe in making the therapeutic process as productive,
solution-focused, and meaningful as possible. I do work with clients to gain
insight into how experiences from the past inform their present, but I do
this in a way that focuses on working toward solving problems in the
   here-and-now.

My therapeutic approach is integrative and individualized to meet the needs
and goals of my clients. I am a trauma-informed counselor. I predominantly
utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing techniques,
psychoeducational techniques, mindfulness-based practices, and play therapy
   (when working with children).

I have special interest in working with clients in regards to issues of
addictions (particularly substance use, gambling, and compulsive eating),
grief, trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, and behavioral health issues that are
informed by societal oppression. I also have special experience working with
clients who have been recently-diagnosed with HIV.

Ideally, I want to create an environment that allows my clients to find their
way, learn about themselves, and grow to be leaders in their treatment. The
approaches I use give clients the ability to take the initiative, evaluate
and then make a plan of action. Making the decision to enter into therapy is
a challenge in itself. But in the end I want to meet the client where they
are at and go from there. Where applicable I use Motivational Interviewing,
mindfulness, play therapy, career/coaching and other modalities in practice.

My approach is Eclectic based in Reality Therapy in a Person-Centered format.
It takes the belief that people are capable of change through self-direction
and understanding in a supportive environment. The Reality Therapy allows the
patient to figure out what they want.

I have experience in group, individual, family therapy and I am open to more
work with couples. I have worked with all age groups from youth (as young as
   4) and beyond, but a lot of my experience has been in an addictions,
   dual-diagnosis and trauma work.

   LICENSED CLINICAL PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR

For more than 25 years, I have worked in the counseling and mental health
field helping clients from various cultural backgrounds and multicultural
interests and mental health concerns. I’m grateful to avail myself to
effectively help my clients make positive, targeted, measurable changes in
their lives in achieving their identified goals; using a strengths-based
therapeutic model of care. My primary therapeutic approaches are Person
Centered, Adlerian and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Adlerian therapy
takes an optimistic view and focuses on your unique strengths, creativity and
   capabilities.

In working with you, I will use CBT to help you understand your mind body
connection and how your thoughts shape your behaviors and actions. I will
listen to your needs, and focus on your strengths and abilities to hear how
to best provide you with coping skills and behavior change techniques to help
   you achieve your identified goals.

My counseling style is casual, lighthearted and targeted. I have been
described as supportive, caring, compassionate, easy to talk to and
knowledgeable. My goal is to identify your strengths and help you to maximize
them. I’m most known for creating a therapeutic environment filled with hope,
   insight, healing, truth and joy.

Because no two patients are alike, therapy should be tailored to each
patient, rather than trying to treat everyone with the same theoretical
approach. I believe that a therapist’s job is to guide the patient as they
learn to change the behaviors and thinking styles that may have once been
helpful, but are now getting in their way. Most importantly, I believe it is
a therapist's job to teach their patients the skills necessary to eventually
function independent of their therapist, allowing them to eventually leave
therapy instead of being stuck with having weekly sessions for the rest of
   their lives!

My specialties are in Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity disorders, depression
and anxiety disorders, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I am trained
in working with a large number of psychological issues, including substance
abuse and personality disorders, across all demographics and ages.

Whatever you are going through, you don't have to go it alone. Sometimes it
can be helpful just to feel heard, sometimes you need more than that. Let's
see if I can help you help yourself!

People begin individual therapy for a range of reasons. Maybe you are
experiencing the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, a life transition,
coping with a trauma-related experience, or a crisis in your personal life.
Perhaps you are dealing with anxiety, depression, or a period of increased
stress. Finding the right therapist is your first step. You may be looking
for a space that allows you to cope with difficulties which you have faced
and to learn ways to break from previous patterns. Therapy is a place where
   you can do this.

I have been trained to recognize and understand different trauma-related
experiences and I guide individuals and families through a process of
exploration. Although each person’s experience is unique, there are certain
recognized needs that those who suffer anxiety and other issues must address.
I listen and offer a safe space to my clients.

I have tremendous respect for the courage required to enter therapy, and I
aim to meet you wherever you are. I believe that treatment is based on the
development of a positive relationship between myself and you. We will work
together to open paths for new connections in your life and to deepen other
ones. We can explore meaning in those areas of your life.

   LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER

I have seen many clients over the years and each one has been a unique
individual with their own story to tell. Just as no two snowflakes are alike,
no two people are alike. Allow me to help you find your own path and
solutions through empowerment utilizing your unique strengths. Individuals
come to see me for many reasons: Trauma, Grief, Anxiety, ADHD, Depression,
OCD, changes in family dynamics and other life changes. I want to provide an
open, relaxed, non-judgmental environment that allows you to reach your full
potential. Whatever your reason, therapy can be the first step.

It is your therapy and we will work together to help you achieve your goals.
I work with individuals, families, youth and teens to: help learn tools to
manage symptoms, work through traumatic experiences, explore cognitive
distortions, nourish strengths, assist with IEP and 504 plans and understand
various ways to work through other difficult situations.

While life is filled with many wonderful days, there are also difficult times
that we all must endure from time to time. It is important for me to help you
recognize and utilize your strengths to work through these difficult times,
to not be a victim but a victor, and to grow as an individual.
