MIDLANDS CANAL BOAT HIRE

Are you looking for a Canal Boat Holiday in the Midlands? Firstly you are in the

HOLIDAYS BASED ON THE ASHBY CANAL

Midland Mallard are located on the Ashby-de-la-Zouch Canal or more commonly
known as Ashby Canal at Market Bosworth marina. You can access all areas of the
canal network by joining the Coventry Canal at Marston Junction at the start of
the Ashby canal. We also cover canal boat hire on the Coventry canal and are
based close to the Coventry Basin. We provide Wi-Fi on our canal boats. We are
available for groups of two to 6 people on our boats which are steered by you,
our customer, following some training. Midland Mallard are a self drive holiday
hire company registered and licensed by the Canal and River Trust.


CANAL BOAT HOLIDAY IN THE MIDLANDS

Midland Mallard provide Narrowboat holidays in the Midlands, Leicestershire,
Warwickshire, Coventry, Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire and Stoke on Trent. We
provide trips on the Ashby canal from Shakerstone, Hinckley, Snarestone,
Nuneaton, Market Bosworth, Congerstone, Stoke Golding to Rugby, Tamworth and the
Coventry basin Hawksbury Junction and the Atherstone flight.

WHAT THINGS ARE THERE TO DO ON THE ASHBY CANAL?

You may wish to stay in the historic town of Market Bosworth, the final battle
scene for King Richard III. Market Bosworth is just a few short minutes walk
from the Marina. The Ashby canal runs through the old battle lines and there is
a visitor centre which is also free. Why not check out the historic steam
railway which runs parallel? You could meander through the SSSI countryside a
(Site of Special Scientific Interest) which boasts a great many species of
wildlife. Whilst being beautiful, the Ashby canal also has lots of pubs and
restaurants to visit and shown below.

We were looking to take a break involving our dog who is nearly 16 yrs old when
we came across the Midland Mallard website. From the first contact to unloading
the boat with us, the owners Simon and Charlie were great. The boat was very
well equipped, well maintained and clean. We booked a week in mid September and
was very lucky with the weather. The scenery on the Ahsby and Coventry canals
are stunning in places and good pubs to stop for food and drink. The only thing
to be aware of is there are not too many places to stock up on supplies so best
to take some basics with you. Overall we had an amazing time and will definitely
do it again. Simon and Charlie go out their way to make sure you have a pleasant

Had a fantastic Monday to Friday cruising the Ashby canal. Simon and Justin
couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. We would definitely recommend.

This was our second break on the lovely Mallard, having previously been aboard
this time last year. This time round,we were greeted by the new owners Charlie
and Simon. They helped us load our bags onto the boat before going over
everything again in a very thorough manner. They will both put you at ease from
the very start. The Mallard was very clean and kitted out with everything you
would ever need. We quite enjoy linking our phone to the stereo via Bluetooth so
we can have lovely soft sounds playing as we eat our meals and relax. One
evening it rained hard ,so we turned the smart tv on. We were most impressed
with the amount of channels you can get including Netflix. I also synced my iPad
to it to watch various things. We ventured up the Ashby canal ,down the Coventry
canal,and then onto the Oxford canal as we had the Mallard for 7 days. She
handles superbly I can tell you. Please treat her with the respect she deserves
and she will reward you with a fantastic time away from it all. Just
remember,take on board everything you are told and just take your time and enjoy
the stunning countryside you will pass by . We would highly recommend a Midland
Mallard break to anyone regardless of the length of the break .

Just got back from a relaxing short break, everything was well maintained,
lovely and clean, Charlie was very helpful,we had a wonderful time, even our
little border enjoyed herself cruising down the Ashby canel

Amazing time had on board. The owners met us , showed us around, and gave us a
short training session and were lovely, the boat itself is great , everything on
board you need and spotlessly clean. Couldn't fault it if I tried. Great time
had by all , all thanks to the owners and the lovely boat.

Well equipped and very clean boat. Justin was brilliant in assisting us for our
first barge boating trip. Can't recommend highly enough. Scenic canals with a
couple of great pubs along the way e.g. The Globe and Hercules Revisited. Had
wonderful meals at these pubs. The Rising Sun, unfortunately does not do meals
anymore. We stopped off at Sutton Cheney and walked to the Battle of Bosworth
heritage centre then did a circular walk around the battlefield. Can't wait to

Having hired over a dozen narrowboats from the large companies we hired Midland
Mallard directly from Justin. Everything was great about this rental, in
particular the personal touch tailored to our experience rather than just

This was the first - but certainly won’t be the last.- time that we had taken a
narrowboat holiday. We’d talked about doing it for years and finally got round
to it. So glad we chose Justin’s boat and the Ashby canal to do it on.
Everything went really well from the: very well equipped, clean and well laid
out boat, beautiful weather, a lovely pub with excellent food (Rising Sun), a
fabulous little steam railway station at Shackerstone and a great canal to
navigate for ‘narrow boat virgins’. Finally, Justin was really personable and
helpful, easing our first-timers’ nerves and giving us his number in the event
of any difficulties - happily, there were none. Looking forward to the next time
already
