FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT POOLS

How often should pool water be tested?

To ensure a safe and usable pool, the water should be tested for chlorine and pH
at least once a week. Other aspects such as calcium hardness, water temperature,
alkalinity, and conditioner levels should be checked at least once a month to
maintain the correct balance of the water and preserve your pool’s finish.

How often should the pool be cleaned?

The frequency depends on various factors, such as pool usage, weather
conditions, and the surrounding environment. As a general rule, a weekly pool
cleaning will be sufficient. The weekly service should include skimming,
vacuuming, emptying of bags and baskets, and chemical checks. 

Does a saltwater pool require chlorine?

There is a common misconception that salt water pools do not contain chlorine.
The purpose of a salt pool is to generate it’s own chlorine in order to keep a
more consistent level of chlorine than is achievable through weekly service, and
thereby increase swimmer comfort.

In any salt water pool, salt chlorine generators (commonly known as salt cells)
convert ordinary table salt into chlorine through electrolysis. In short, yes
your saltwater pool does need chlorine, and it will generate it’s own!

Keep in mind that the electrolysis process will not work once water temperature
drops below roughly 60 degrees Fahrenheit at which point the pool will need to
be supplemented with outside chlorine.

Why does pool water need balancing?

Without proper balancing, your pool water may corrode its surface or cause
excessive calcium scale formation, both of which are costly and unsightly
issues. We utilize the Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) to balance your water,
considering factors such as pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, water temperature,
and total dissolved solids.

This index offers a comprehensive assessment, evaluating your water’s saturation
with calcium carbonate based on proven science used for nearly a century in
various applications, from city water sanitation plants to backyard pools.

What should pool water PH levels be?

Typically your pH should be between 7.2 and 8.0. However, there is no correct
answer to this question as the pH alone does not determine the balance of your
pool water.

When should we replace pool filters?

Depending on the type of pool filter you have, the following time spans apply:

Sand Filters: Sand filters typically need the sand replaced every 5 to 7 years.
Over time, the sand becomes less effective in trapping debris and particles.

Cartridge Filters: Cartridge filters should be cleaned regularly and replaced
every 2 to 5 years, depending on usage and maintenance.

If your filter isn’t cleaning the water as effectively as before, despite
regular maintenance and cleaning, it might be time for a replacement. Visible
damage, cracks, or tears are sure signs that replacement is required.
