RANGE/STEAM OVEN DESIGN HELP!

I am in the middle of picking out appliances and am very confident about one of
them: The XXL Miele steam oven.


I foresee myself using this oven regularly and am thinking I would like it near
my range or rangetop.


My question: Do you think this steam oven (pictured below) will look ok if in
the same vicinity as a range that is not of the same brand (therefore having a
different handle and overall different look)? Or, would it be better to forego a
full range and do a rangetop instead? Note, if I did a rangetop instead, I would
likely pair the Miele steam oven with another Miele oven below it.


I'll add a picture of the Miele steam oven and two potential ranges. Thank you
for your thoughts!

   First, I'd recommend Bluestar RNB over Wolf. Wolf was once quite good but
   that's no longer the case.

   FWIW, I'd consider function over form any day. Even if form isn't ideal you
   adjust to it. You never really adjust to poor function.

   I had the same decision to make . I have a wall oven and separate cooktop I
   was going to get a one piece range but I decided to get a double oven (which
   I also dont need that much) but I got the double oven and a 36 cooktop. This
   way I figured I have everything I could possibly want. I did not like the
   idea of bending . Also I thought I would save money by getting the one piece
   and as you mention then you still have to buy at least another 30 inch
   cabinet and if you are getting granite you have to buy more granite so as far
   as saving I did not see that much of a difference. I did not want to take the
   chance that I would not like that one piece range. I also got a double oven
   because if you go with the micro on top of the wall oven keep in mind , that
   the oven drops lower on the wall to accomodate micro on top and again I did
   not want to bend I wanted oven at eye level. Good luck in your decision

   Thanks for the reply! The unit I already have there is an oven/micro
   combo...but they look like double ovens. If I install double ovens there I
   would need to find a place for the microwave. And once again I would have to
   find a way to rearrange cabinetry!

   Normally if I am doing onsen tamago, I will do steam 165 for about 20-25min.
   When I crack those, the whites will be like a very delicate white custard,
   and the yolk will be just solidified, but still the same color of runny yolk.
   That is my favorite yolk personally - it's like a intensified yolk flavor
   with the rich texture of ganache. I usually crack that into bowl, and there
   will be some loose white that cooked onto the inside of the shell that I
   scrape out with a small spoon (don't like to waste!) though you can skip
   those bits if you want prettier presentation. Put it in some tsuyu sauce
   (dashi broth based sauce), sprinkle in some nori, maybe some thinly sliced
   scallions, some tempura flakes, and it's a beautiful light Japanese appetizer
   with barely any work. Best, it can be served hot or cold, so the steaming can
   be done in advance with a whole carton of eggs if you like, and in no time
   you can have 12 elegant summer appetizers done if entertaining. It looks a

   But you can adapt this to lots of things. If you like poached eggs, you can
   cook at lower temps for longer - check out this link:

   working on a variation of hard-boiled eggs simmered in tea right now, that
   won't have horribly overcooked yolks and rubbery whites the way traditional
   ones often end up. I will probably flash steam at 210, shock with cold and
   then send it back in to finish the cooking at lower. I haven't got the timing
   down right and over cooked the yolk beyond my perfect yolk to the color of a
   normal hard boiled yolk, but it was actually still tender and moist tasting,
   not the chalky texture I associated with hard boiled eggs that I hated
   growing up.

   oh, js, i am not that old yet either. stuff just happens, you are in your
   prime, and oops. So i would not let the fact that you are not currently there
   sway your decision. In addition, i recently saw one of these comparison of
   remodels where they actually poked fun of all the kitchens that had a range
   with red buttons on it. Just to make a 'statement&quot; and how those are
   normally the ones that do not cook. If you actually cook, your kitchen should
   be about your comfort and anyone who goes to buy your house and cooks, will
   love your kitchen. if they don't take a 5000 cut so they can get their dream
   kitchen, because no matter what you do, they will not be happy. Here is the
   kitchen of a very wealthy woman, who was a great chef, Julia child, she had
   two that looked like this. her husband even traced the forms of what hung on
   the wall so they would always be where they belonged.

   It actually confirmed to me that I need to go with my initial gut and
   reevaluate our current kitchen/butler pantry sketch, as it doesn't feel
   functional to me. I have a few questions for you in regard to your kitchen
