The bill for a law that established the Kogi State Vigilante Service was signed
into law on 25th November 2014. The Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello noticed
that the various vigilante groups operated differently without sense of focus.
He decided to merge all of them under one umbrella without political party,
tribal or religious affiliations. Consequently, a team led by the comptroller of
vigilantes went round the 21 Local Government Areas of the state and recruited

existing security apparatus in the state by providing effective security using
the teeming youths at the grass-root level”.
