COVID-19 POLICY & INFORMATION

Last updated: January 22, 2023

As part of our effort to address concerns over COVID-19’s impact on attendees
and staff, Anthrocon has adopted the following policy for our 2023 convention to
promote the well-being of everyone and lessen the potential spread of COVID-19
at our convention.

This policy may continue to be updated based on emerging information and
guidance from government health units and experts. Any changes to this policy
will be reflected here, but will be finalized no later than June 1st, 2023.

Information - FAQs

REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND ANTHROCON 2023

For Anthrocon 2023, we will require either a full vaccination status (not
including boosters), OR, for those that are unable to receive a vaccine, a
certified proof of negative COVID test. Please read the details below.

PROOF OF COVID-19 VACCINATION

Proof of full vaccination may be presented in the form of an official paper
vaccine card, a digital facsimile (i.e. such as a clear photograph or "vaccine
passport" app), or a certified medical document indicating your fully vaccinated
status (i.e. a doctor’s letter). Booster shots are not required as part of a
full vaccination series, but strongly recommended.

 * The requisite number of doses of a vaccine that has been approved by the US
FDA, World Health Organization, or other internationally-recognized health
authority, have been administered to the attendee at least two weeks prior to
receiving an attendance badge. This means you must be fully vaccinated no
   later than June 15th, 2023.

 * Additional optional booster shots are strongly recommended to ensure you have
optimal protection, especially if your vaccines are over a year old.

CERTIFIED PROOF OF NEGATIVE COVID-19 ANTIGEN/PCR TEST

As an alternative to proof of vaccination, an attendee may present certified
proof of:

 * a negative PCR test taken no more than 2 calendar days prior to check-in at
   registration, or

 * certified proof of a negative antigen test taken no more than 1 calendar day
   prior to check-in at registration.

If you are unable to access testing services before you arrive, limited same-day
testing will be available onsite for a fee. You can also access the CDC’s
No-Cost COVID-19 Testing locator tool to find a location near you.

MASK POLICY

Masks are required to be worn in specific high-density and high-contact areas of
the convention center and Westin hotel, as these areas have a higher
concentration of individuals and face-to-face interactions than normal.
Attendees are responsible for providing their own masks as we are not able to
provide approved masks for all attendees.

The following areas will maintain constant masking:

 * Registration

 * Dealers Room

 * Artists Alley & Con Store

 * Art Show

 * Gaming Rooms (Board/Tabletop Gaming, Video Gaming, Interactive Gaming, etc.)

 * All panel and event rooms - including all ballrooms. Note: Speakers/hosts may
remove their masks if they maintain sufficient distance from the audience.

All other areas of the convention space will be mask-optional; however, we
strongly recommend continuing to practice masking when socializing in indoor
areas. This is not only to help protect yourself, but also protect other
attendees and staff members who are vital to ensuring our convention runs
smoothly.

For fursuiters/cosplayers, we recognize that wearing a medical mask under a
fursuit head is not always practical; however, we still strongly recommend that
fursuiters wear an appropriate mask or face covering underneath their head to
ensure they are following our policy and minimizing chances of spread.

FURSUIT HEADLESS ZONES

Anthrocon will be operating its headless zones with the following policy:

 * We will be including fans in our headless zone spaces to assist with cooling
fursuiters, which will be augmented by additional safety measures with the
goal of balancing the need for cooling while minimizing direct transmission
of particles and following safety guidelines. Masks are still strongly
recommended for fursuiters in the headless zones.

 * Fans will be placed within the headless zones to improve airflow. Fans are
meant to move the air within the room and are not intended to be moved for
direct personal usage from their assigned positions. If issues occur with the
placement of fans, attendees should contact the headless zone staff or the
ConOps/EventsOps staff located in DLCC 309.

 * For 2023, the head-cooling trees will not be in use as we cannot guarantee
that the trees, or hoses are properly sanitized and cleaned between uses.
Anthrocon Events leadership has deemed that this is an unnecessary and
   unacceptable risk of transmission.

 * Water service will still be provided in headless zones as per previous years.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 * What if I’m vaccinated but don’t have proof?

If you do not have a valid, government-issued proof of vaccination for
whatever reason, you will still have the option of showing proof of a
negative PCR test taken no more than 2 days prior, or a negative antigen test
taken no more than 1 day prior. In both cases the test results must be
certified by a service such as Navica.

You can also contact your local or state health department for a copy of your
vaccination record, if they offer such a service.

 * What if I am unable to show proof of vaccination and I do not have
   certification of negative test results?

Anthrocon plans to contract with a local medical service to provide a limited
number of onsite tests. The fee for this testing (about $50) would be your
responsibility to pay at the time of testing.

 * Can I use my own home rapid-testing kit as a proof of vaccination?

No, self-test kits that do not produce a certified proof of negative result
   are not allowed.

 * How do I know if I should get a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot?

Although a booster shot of COVID-19 vaccine is not required to attend, we
would strongly recommend that anyone with a vaccination more than 2 months
old (per CDC guidelines) to receive a booster shot at least two weeks before
the convention. It is helpful for ensuring your resistance to COVID-19 is
up-to-date and minimizing any potential impacts it may have on you, or
   others.

 * Why isn't Anthrocon making the vaccine mandatory for everyone?

We understand that there are attendees that legitimately are unable to
receive a vaccine, and in the interest of inclusivity within reasonable risk,
are allowing them to attend provided a proven negative result using our
on-site testing. This also allows for those that may have lost their proof of
vaccination, for whatever reason, to not be without options for attendance.

 * Why is Anthrocon still requiring masks?

Even though government guidelines may have been loosened, the threat that
COVID poses to our attendees and staffers is still prevalent in 2023,
especially those that come in contact with hundreds or thousands of attendees
a day. Anthrocon is a very close-contact event especially in commercial and
event/panel spaces, and thus has a higher risk of transmission should there
be a positive case of COVID. As a private organization and event, we are
enacting this policy in the interest of our convention’s well-being as a
whole, and hope that our attendees are understanding of these safety
   precautions.

 * Why isn’t the mask mandate being enforced everywhere?

After reviewing inputs from last year’s convention feedback and the current
environment of furry conventions, we are focusing our efforts on mandating
protection in higher-contact areas of the convention rather than the entire
space to balance enforcement with acceptable risk. We continue to encourage
that masking be practiced in common spaces, especially those that are used
for congregation such as seating areas in the convention center.

 * What happens if myself or somebody gets sick at the convention?

We would strongly recommend anyone that is feeling unwell or showing symptoms
of any sickness, regardless whether COVID or otherwise, to stay at home. We
know that this means missing out on the convention, but preventing the spread
of further illness (COVID or otherwise) should be the priority over
potentially getting your fellow furries sick.

If an attendee shows signs of illness in convention space, our Safety team
will address it on a case-by-case basis and may request they quarantine
themselves in their room for the remainder of the convention.
