THE TRUTH BEHIND THE STORY THAT RAILA WAS CURSED BY HIS FATHER TO NEVER BECOME
PRESIDENT

I am neither a staunch supporter of either Raila nor Ruto, so expect that this
article is written without bias. I am another fellow Kenyan who has heard the
rumor that Raila was cursed by his father to come close to power but never
possess it. My curiosity led me to research online the truth of the matter and I
am sharing the results of my findings with you to help clear the air around the
controversial issue. I will share two stories so that you decipher for yourself
whether the curse really took place or it is a rumor that started spreading
after Raila stabbed, or rather shot at the presidency four times but always
missed.




1.CURSE BY NABONGO MUMIA SHIUNDU.




ONE STORY GOES THAT RAILA’S FATHER WAS CURSED BY THE 17TH KING OF WANGA NABONGO
MUMIA, WHO TOLD HIM THAT HE AND HIS OFFSPRING WOULD MANAGE TO COME CLOSE TO THE
ECHELONS OF POWER BUT NEVER POSSESS IT. THIS SHOWS THAT IT WAS JARAMOGI WHO WAS
CURSED AND NOT DIRECTLY RAILA. RATHER RAILA IS A VICTIM OF THE CURSE FOR BEING
THE CHILD OF OGINGA. HOWEVER, THIS STORY, WHEN I CAME ACROSS IT, DID NOT
EXPLICITLY EXPLAIN WHY NABONGO WOULD DO THAT.


2.CURSE BY JARAMOGI OGINGA ODINGA.



The second story I came across before quitting my aimless wandering in the
streets of Google, was that it was Oginga himself who cursed him. It allegedly
happened during a delegates conference at a city stadium in 1992, when Odinga
forcefully disrupted the event with an army of youths and confronted Jaramogi,
who was addressing the conference as the chairman of Ford Kenya.



He ignored his father who instructed him to calm down and behave, resulting in a
shouting exchange that almost brought the conference to a standstill. During the
battle of words, Jaramogi told him that he had also struggled for the top seat
with Kenyatta and Moi, and Odinga would as well struggle to his sunset days but
never attain it. Jaramogi died two years later, sealing the curse before he
could erase it with a counter-blessing. Whether this is true I cannot attest, it
is among the many stories surrounding the event that baffles Kenyans to this
day.



As Raila attempts to win and become the fifth President, we should be aware that
Zambia’s incumbent Hakainde Hichilema also tried five times to win but got it on
the sixth time. Raila went for his inauguration so he probably got a few tips on
how to keep the faith.
