The Community Grants Program is a community grants program to support builders, teams and creators committed to the growth of the Polygon community. What is the Community Treasury? The Polygon Community Treasury was announced in the POL whitepaper and further unpacked in the Polygon 2.0: Governance announcement. It defines a protocol-funded support mechanism, dedicated to ensuring the longevity and flourishing of the decentralized Polygon network and its community. The Polygon community and the wider Web3 industry are still in the early phase of development and adoption. To remain on the current growth trajectory, the Polygon community will need ongoing support for years to come. It is for this reason that the establishment of the Community Treasury – a self-sustainable community support mechanism – has been proposed. In essence, this mechanism should be used for both public goods and support programs for promising projects and initiatives. What is the Community Treasury Board? What are their roles and responsibilities? The Community Treasury Board is an independent governance body tasked with crafting the overarching strategy for the Community Treasury and acting as the ultimate decision-maker over resource deployment. The Community Treasury Board consists of five community growth experts, committed to the long-term expansion and development of Polygon.Their responsibilities span various critical areas, including: - Track selection and strategy setting - Expenditure approval - Application review - Post-cycle reporting Learn more about the Community Treasury Board here: PFP-2 and Blog. What is a Grant Allocator (GA)? Grant allocators (GA) are operators (or protocols/platforms) with considerable experience and expertise in executing grant programs as an outside entity on behalf of any community or chain. For the Community Grants program, GAs play the role of sourcing projects, providing grants, generating awareness, and driving value to the community as an outside contributor. Please see [PFP-2] for more details. Grant Allocators can apply to participate in grant rounds here. How are Grant Allocators (GA) selected and what is their role? Grant Allocators are selected based on application review by the Community Treasury Board. An open call for GA applications was published by the CTB in the forum post here. The role of a Grant Allocator (GA) can be summarized as below: - GA’s play the crucial role of supporting the Community Treasury Board in effective allocation of grant funds to drive the growth of the Polygon community - GA’s will bring significant expertise and custom end-to-end application, vetting, selection, and deployment processes for grants - GA’s will ensure a high quality grant experience for all stakeholders - projects, the Polygon community, and the CTB - GA’s will submit an impact report at the end of the season showcasing the impact and outcomes of the grant program What is the season strategy for the Community Grants Program? The Community Treasury Board will deploy resources from the Community Treasury based on a transparent and objective season strategy. A season is defined as a collection of ideas, or themes supported by external experts to drive impactful outcomes. A typical season will be three months long, and feature specific verticals, themes, and partners. The first season will kick off on June 11, 2024 and end after three months on Aug 31, 2024 What is the difference between General Grants and Consumer Crypto Tracks? General Grants Track offers an opportunity for builders, and teams with dApps live on Polygon Networks, or looking to migrate to Polygon Networks, or building new dApps on Polygon Networks to secure grants for their projects. General grants are open to **all projects**, regardless of type–dApps, infra, tooling, etc. Consumer Crypto is the specific Season 1 theme designed to focus support for projects, builders, and teams building at the cutting edge of Consumer Crypto. More details around the Consumer Crypto track are available here [Add Season Strategy Blog Post link] The assigned Grant Allocator will manage the Consumer Crypto track, as approved by the Community Treasury Board, and will independently run, operate, onboard, and distribute grants to builders applying for this track. Learn more about the Grant Allocator on this forum post published by the CTB here: [Add GA_Call_for_applications forum post link] Which projects are eligible to apply? A few conditions must be met to be eligible. Projects must be: - Building on Polygon or willing to migrate to Polygon - Building for the long term How do I qualify for funding? If you’re building on a Polygon Network, looking to migrate from another chain, or launch your project on a Polygon Network, you’re eligible to apply. Qualification will depend on the specific rubric, and evaluation by the Community Treasury Board members. More details on the rubric, and scoring criteria will be updated and shared shortly. How much funding should I request? Projects are free to submit their proposal with any grant amount they desire to secure; however, all grants above 50K POL will invite special scrutiny & diligence and will take a longer time frame to evaluate. Will grants be delivered in POL or MATIC? The Community Grants Program taps into the Community Treasury which accrues the POL token. However, as the token transition process is ongoing, to make it easy for grantees to find liquidity in the market, the grants for season 1 will be paid out in MATIC tokens instead Can I apply for as many tracks as I want? No. During a given season, projects should carefully evaluate which track your project falls into, and apply only for the one that is the best fit. For instance, if your project falls within the scope of the themed track, it is recommended you apply for that grant. If your project does not fall within the theme’s scope, please apply for the General Grant Track. If you’re unclear or need guidance on which track your project falls under, please ask your queries in the #open-questions channel under the ‘Community Grants’ Section on Polygon Labs’ Discord server. If a grantee applies for two tracks, the Community Treasury Board will consider the first entry submitted, and treat the other as null and void. Who decides which projects receive funding? The Community Treasury Board (CTB) is the approving body for all applicants. In the case of Grant Allocator Tracks led by a CTB appointed Grant Allocator, the final approval will be by the assigned Grant Allocator. How can I track the status of my application? General Grants Track: Projects can track the status of their applications on the ‘Charmverse Grants Management Platform’ to keep themselves updated on the latest status, feedback, and outcomes on the basis of CTB reviews of their applications. Consumer Crypto Track: Status tracking on applications will be available on the appointed Grant Allocator’s platform. What is the timeline to receive a final confirmation on my grant application? The Community Treasury Board aims to communicate the status of each grant application, and its approval to grantees on a rolling **4-week basis**. However, in specific cases where CTB deems deeper diligence is required, actual turnaround time may vary. When is the next season, and how can I apply? The Community Grant Program is a seasonal program. The first season’s duration is for a period of 3-months beginning June 11, 2024 and ending August 31, 2024. Future season dates will be announced by the Community Treasury Board in accordance with their strategy, and will be communicated through the Polygon Community Forum, social media, and discord announcements. How can I contact the Community Treasury Board? The best way to reach out to the Community Treasury Board is by posting your questions in the #ask-the-CTB channel in the Polygon Labs’ Discord channel. What happened to Polygon Village Grants? Polygon Village Grants will be phased out over the course of the next few months, and will be replaced by the Community Grants Program in line with commitments to increase community participation, and greater decentralization of decision making around the Community Treasury. What is the role of Polygon Labs in the Community Treasury, and Community Grants Program? Polygon Labs is working with the Community Treasury Board to provide operational and administrative support in accordance with Community Treasury Board guidelines, season strategy, and Polygon Funding Proposals. How will the community be involved in the Community Grants Program? The Community Treasury Board as an independent group is the first step in community engagement. They will be responsible for reviewing, and approving all the applicants under the Community Grants Program. Over time, new avenues for the community to participate in the decision making process will be introduced. How do I optimize my chances for getting approved for grant funding? The key to success is writing a great grant application. Be thorough in your approach, and answer all the questions clearly. Step into the reviewer’s shoes when evaluating your answers, and also make sure you do a thorough self-review before submitting your application. The Community Treasury Board is looking to learn as much as possible about the team, the product, and your grand vision. Ensure you provide all the necessary links to substantiate your claims.
