IN A MAC WHERES THE PRINTER APP

Out of the blue, all of the machines in our office are now reporting 'Looking
for printer....' when users try to print to our network connected HP4200. The
message is appearing in the printer app.
The printer itself seems fine, and i can print to it from a windows machine.
Restarting the printer has no effect on the problem.
I've already tried the various solutions I've found in the forums here. Clearing
the caches, deleting and reinstalling the printer driver, etc. works for a
document or 2, but then the machine falls back into the looking for printer
pattern again.
This is happening on Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard.
