NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT SIMPLIFIED


NAVIGATEPRO IS A SIMPLE, BUT COMPREHENSIVE, NUTRIENT PLANNING TOOL FOR ADVISERS
AND AGRONOMISTS.

This exciting new software integrates fertilisers and manures to produce a
complete nutrient management plan. Uniquely it links to both the arable and
grassland RB209 API to automatically remain up to date with current fertiliser
thinking.


FLEXIBLE

Whilst RB209 provides the default guidance, the software offers advisers and
agronomists the flexibility to base plans on alternative guidance systems and
input specific analytical data, such as soil, manure, and fertiliser analyses.
The resulting nutrient management plans will then be tailored to meet specific
farm/field requirements.

 


SIMPLE

Fully compliant with NVZ regulations and farming rules for water, the system
follows a step-by-step process that takes the complexity out of fertiliser
recommendations for grassland and arable crops.

NavigatePro has been designed to make Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ) compliance
reporting simple and easy to accomplish.

Currently in England, 55% of agricultural land is subject to NVZ legislation. In
Scotland there are five areas designated as NVZs and Wales is set to introduce a
whole territory NVZ approach by 2023.

Making sure a farm is NVZ compliant can be a lengthy and demanding process,
especially on livestock farms where stock numbers are high.

NavigatePro calculates all the necessary farm and field limits for organic
manure production and application and guides users through inputting the right
data to calculate farm storage capacity. It then quickly determines if the farm
is NVZ compliant or requires an alternative solution to stay legal.

NavigatePro also ensures that recommendations meet the crop N-Max rules and
closed period limits. Clear reporting helps farmers understand whether or not
their operations are within the rules in advance of seasonal applications.


 


SUSTAINABILITY

NavigatePro will be invaluable in helping farmers access public money following
Brexit and the move away from direct subsidy payments.

The new approach to farm payments will reward farmers and landowners for
managing land and soils in a more sustainable way. In so doing the hope is this
will drive up agricultural standards and best practice helping to restore and
improve the natural environment on which we all depend. In short public money
for public good.

In England there will be a three-tier system:

 * Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI);
 * Local Nature Recovery
 * Landscape Recovery

The Local Nature Recovery scheme is designed to target local environmental
priorities, such as water quality, and the Landscape Recovery scheme is for
those landowners who want to take a more radical and large-scale approach to
improving the natural environment.

It is likely that a similar principle of public money for public good will be
adopted by the devolved administration in Wales and the developing scheme is
called the Sustainable Farming Scheme. Scotland is taking a different approach.
The Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP) will continue the extension of
the Pillar 2 funds across the transition period into a new programme which will
be domestically funded.

The scheme in England will be launched fully in 2022 but in 2021 more than 2000
farmers joined the SFI pilot scheme to help make sure the scheme works in
practice. This process called ‘co-design’ means farmers had the opportunity to
shape the future of farming in England.

There are three levels of ambition in the Sustainable Farming Incentive
standards. Each level has associated actions that a farmer agrees to. Payment
levels depend on which ambition level is agreed. The greater the ambition, the
higher the payment.

Nutrient management is a focus of SFI and a proposed standard is being
introduced in 2023. This would require farmers to have a nutrient management
plan so that fertilisers and manures are used more sustainably. With NavigatePro

money and help meet their obligation.
