HESTASPORT COTTAGES

With magnificent views overlooking the vast plains and distant mountains of the
Skagafjörður valley, our seven charming timber cottages are the ideal place to
spend your days off all year round. Experience the serenity of Northern Iceland
and fill your days with the endless possibilities for adventure that
Skagafjörður has to offer.

The cottages range in size from studio-style bungalows (2-4 people) to spacious
multi-room retreats. They are nestled together up on the hill only a short
walking distance from the centre of Varmahlíð. From the hot tub at the centre of
the well-maintained cottage site, you can enjoy the golden light of the midnight
sun or watch the northern lights.

In town, you will find all the services you need: tourist information, grocery
shop, restaurant, petrol station, swimming pool, and more.

2 PERSON COTTAGES

Our four studio-style 2-person cottages range from 30 to 36 m² in size. Their
warm log house design invites you to relax and enjoy and will make you feel at
home instantly. Our natural hot tub is only a few meters away at the centre of
the cottage site and at your disposal around the clock.

A SECOND WONDERFUL STAY AT HESTASPORT

The owner is friendly and helpful, and his dog is adorable! The cottages are
cute, clean, comfortable, and in a beautiful setting. A good spot to stay if you
want to take day trips to the Highlands, Akureyri, or explore the Tröllaskagi
Peninsula. Bonus points for the hot pot! When planning my return trip to
Iceland, staying at Hestasport again was #1 on my list. If I could move in, I
would.


PERFECT STAY IN A PERFECT COTTAGE IN A PERFECT LOCATION.

Everything! Wish we had booked more nights at the cottages. They were perfect!


FANTASTIC PROPERTY QUIET, HAS EVERYTHING FOR A SHORT STAY AND THE BONUS OF THE
HOT TUB.

The cottage was as described, extremely clean great position and the hot tub a
bonus.


ONE OF OUR FAVORITE PLACES WE STAYED IN ICELAND!

Our cottage was larger than we expected, very clean and it was decorated in a
tastefully done country sheep theme. We had a collapsible cooler that we brought
with us so we stopped at a nearby grocery store and stocked up and cooked a
wonderful meal in our cottage. The hot spring pot was very relaxing after a long
day of hiking. We got to meet some of the other guests and we talked about some
of the things they had seen and done. You pick up your key at a different
location…pay attention to their instructions. It all went smoothly for us. We
did a 11 day trip around Iceland and this was one of our top 3 places we stayed!

All our cottages have complimentary high-speed Wifi that guests can use for
basic browsing.

You will be able to park your car near the cottage without charge.

BEDROOM COMFORTS

The bedrooms feature comfortable bed, duvets and pillows. Bed linens are
provided and included.

HOT TUB

Guests have access to a shared natural hot tub, located by the cottages.



FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHENS

The kitchens in the cottages are fully-equipped with a stove, oven, utensils and
kitchen ware.



PRIVATE BATHROOMS

All cottages have a private bathroom with a shower. Towels and handsoaps are
provided.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION



CHECK-IN

Check-in is at Hestasport reception, from 15:00 h (3:00 pm). In case you arrive
late, we will leave an envelope with your key and directions to your cottage in
a wooden box next to our office door.




HOUSE RULES

Please be considerate of your neighbours and the environment. Smoking is not
allowed in any of the Hestasport Cottages. Please respect this rule.



CANCELLATION POLICY

If you cancel up to 48 hours before the arranged arrival date, no fee will be
charged. If cancelled later the first two nights will be charged. In case of
no-show, the total price will be charged.

In case weather and road conditions do not permit you to travel to Varmahlíð on
the arranged date, please give us a call and we’ll discuss our mutual options.

LOCATION & NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Hestasport Cottages are located near Varmahlíð in North Iceland. There is a
varied range of activities and beautiful landscapes in the surroundings of
Hestasport Cottages.

HOW TO GET TO THERE?

Hestasport Cottages are located in Varmahlíð, which is conveniently located by
the ring road, road number 1. If you are travelling from Reykjavík, it will take
you around 3 and a half hour to drive to Hestasport Cottages. If you are driving
from Akureyri it will only take you around an hour on the ring road.

THE AREA

Hestasport Cottages are in Skagafjörður, a fjord that is often referred to as
the home of the Icelandic horse. In Skagafjörður you can enjoy both the rich
cultural life and lifestyle. The district is an ideal place to enjoy beautiful
Icelandic nature, horsemanship and activities for the whole family. You will
also find interesting historical sites, museums and exhibits.

ACTIVITIES

Hestasport offers a variety of riding tours, both single day tours and multi-day
tours. We can also help you plan and book a range of activities that are
available in the area. Whitewater rafting down glacial rivers, helicopter skiing
on Tröllaskagi mountain range, sailing to the island Drangey, relax in a natural
hot spring is just a few activities that the area has to offer.

RESTAURANTS

The restaurant at Hotel Varmahlíð is located one kilometre from Hestasport
Cottages and offers a pleasant atmosphere for breakfast or dinner. The
restaurant is open daily from 20.May – 15.september.

The petrol station in Varmahlíð store also has a canteen with grab-and-go foods.

SHOPPING FACILITIES

Shopping for food

Hestasport is located in the remote district of Skagafjörður, one of the most
beautiful areas of Iceland.  Shopping facilities in the countryside are a bit
limited, therefore we would recommend you to buy your groceries before arriving
at Hestasport Cottages.

You can do so at Blönduós if you are arriving from the west, Akureyri if you are
arriving from the east or Sauðárkrókur if
you are coming to us from the north. All these towns have a supermarket where
you can find everything you need.

Local food from the farms

The valley of Skagafjörður is home to countless farms where you can buy local
produce. Why don´t you try some of the best Icelandic lamb with some vegetables
from a greenhouse built over a natural hot spring? Just ask us when you check in
and we’ll point
you in the right direction!

Local handcraft


Feel like taking a piece of Icelandic culture home with you? The handcraft
gallery in the village offers a huge range of traditional Icelandic sweaters,
gloves, hats and other unique clothing and decoration items.

All the goods are hand made by the locals of Skagafjörður.

In the village 

You will find a gas station with a small shop in Varmahlíð, located around one
kilometre from Hestasport Cottages. It is handy if you suddenly realize that you
need some milk, but the selection of goods is limited at best.

SKIING

Hestasport Cottages are located near five excellent skiing areas in Tröllaskagi.
It takes from 40 minutes to 2 hours to drive to the areas.
