NHS PAY BANDS 2021/22

From April 1st 2021 (including 3% payrise) the NHS Pay Bands are below. NHS pay
starts at £18,545 and goes up to £275,525. This is gross NHS pay before Pension,
Tax and National Insurance are taken off. All NHS staff will have their pay
backdated from this date. This site also has a summary of the NHS 2021/22 3% pay
rise and NHS Hourly rate table.

NHS Pay bands range from a Band 2 to a Band 9. There is also a Senior Management
Pay band for Executives and Chief Operating Officers (which is about 1% of the
overall workforce). These are called Very Senior Manager (VSM) bands.

There are 25 pay steps from a Band 1 to a Band 9. There are many pay steps for
NHS Very Senior Managers (VSM) depending on the role and size of the NHS
organisation they work at. In previous pay years there have been just under 40
pay steps.
