The department mission, guided by the Jesuit character of the University and the liberal arts character of the College, provides students with exercise and growth in moral and intellectual habits so they may fulfill their respective vocations in life and be intelligent, ethical, and useful members of society. The faculty form a community of scholars whose research enriches their teaching and contributes to the solution of human problems. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is firmly committed to fostering a welcoming environment that provides each of its members (faculty, staff, and students alike) with an equitable opportunity to advance both their education and their career. We welcome, value, and support a diverse community of individuals from different backgrounds in racial, ethnic, religious, socio-economic, gender identity and expression, and other aspects of diversity. Department Highlights Faculty members who are internationally recognized researchers in pure mathematics and statistics. Award winning educators dedicated to innovation in instruction, curricular development, and classroom technology. Advanced mathematics and statistics courses in the context of a liberal arts education. Small class sizes and a 1-1 faculty student ratio in graduate programs. Student involvement in club activities, service, and academic competitions. InCoB is one of the top Bioinformatics conferences held at different countries every year, only one researcher is selected for this award. Tong presented her recent paper sc-fGAIN: An f-divergence-based Generative Adversarial Imputation Method for scRNA-sq Data Analysis. This paper was funded by NIH and PRF grant, and produced under the direction of Ms. Si's doctoral advisor Haijun Gong. Sunday, November 26 2023 * MaPP Challenge 2024 SLU presents the 2024 MaPP Challenge: Dahlia in the Riddling Realm. The MaPP Challenge is a team-based mathematical puzzle competition for high school students held at multiple college campuses across the country. Unlike traditional math competitions, our puzzle hunt rewards players’ problem-solving ability over their previous mathematical background, pulling ideas from outside the usual arithmetic-to-calculus sequence. Area high schools are invited to send teams of 2-6 players to the competition, which will take place on the campus of Saint Louis University on Saturday, March 2 from 9am-3pm. Tuesday, November 14 2023 * ForAll Magazine The SLU Math/Stat department is proud to present the first issue of ForAll magazine, published by faculty and students in the department. ForAll is a biannual inclusive mathematics magazine featuring articles and expositions on a wide range of topics related to mathematics, puzzles, art, games, and more. Issues of ForAll are available on the ForAll Magazine website. Sunday, April 02 2023 220 N. Grand BlvdSt. Louis, MO 63103103 Ritter Hall(314) 977-2444mathstat@slu.edu Higher purpose.
