list.  [00:40] Why Dr. Sowa Got Involved In The Health Space Even before Dr.
Sowa went to college, she had discovered the field of public health. Plus, the
idea of prevention always was very attractive to her. Sowa always wondered why
doctors want to treat the disease if they could prevent it. At college, she
really started to understand a holistic view of what it means to be healthy.
Eventually, Dr. Sowa realized a lot of problems in health boils down to
metabolic dysfunction. [04:40] Why Are 88% of Americans Metabolically
Inflexible? So, Dr. Sowa says the solution is actually pretty straightforward.
You can reverse type 2 diabetes; again, it is reversible! Many people think a
low-carb and high-fat diet will give you a heart attack or a stroke; that’s
simply not true. The three macronutrients are carbohydrates, protein, and fat.
Out of those three macronutrients, carbohydrates will spike glucose and insulin
the most. It makes total sense that we should eat more protein and fat to
reverse high insulin. [16:45] What Is An Optimal Range For Fasting Insulin?
Optimal is usually under five. Even up to eight is okay for fasting insulin.
Anything higher than eight means your body is making too much insulin in
response to carbohydrates. When Dr. Sowa does bloodwork, she’s looking for

Someone Retest Their Markers? You should test once a quarter. If you are
embarking on a new lifestyle change, Dr. Sowa says to test right away. That way,
you have the data. Once you start eating keto, then you can see what improves.
Your markers are a better victory than what you see on the scale. [24:20] How
Dr. Sowa Wants To Help People With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome PCOS is a disease
of insulin resistance in the majority of cases. For years, the medical community
has gone about treating this in the wrong way. Up to 50% of women with PCOS will
go on to develop type two diabetes by the time they're 40. Women with PCOS can
make themselves feel better by following a low carbohydrate diet. Sowa developed
a kit to help women get a diagnosis. It usually takes women five years and three
doctors to understand their diagnosis. [28:10] Why Dr. Sowa Is A Big Fan of
Intermittent Fasting   Fasting will reset your hormones. Plus, fasting is a
great way to understand your relationship with food and hunger. Remember, you
don’t have to eat every two hours. In the beginning, it's not necessarily about
eating less; it's just about eating less often.   [31:10] Why Dr. Sowa Loves
Walking After A Meal Walk after a meal, so your muscles have the ability to take
up any glucose. We should be moving right after we eat to take up any free
glucose and use it for energy instead of fat storage. Five minutes will make a
difference! The sweet spot would be fifteen to twenty minutes. [34:10] How
Important Is Quality Sleep Each Night? If you don’t get good sleep, sleep, you
will be hungry and crave carbohydrates. Good quality and consistent sleep will
keep your cortisol levels down. When cortisol spikes from poor sleep, the hunger
hormone will also spike. Plus, you will get a spike in insulin. When insulin is
high, it will drive hunger. One of the silent epidemics in our country is sleep
apnea, where people cannot get good sleep no matter how hard they try. Luckily,

Abby Durlewanger | 41 Day Water Fast Experience & The Biggest Mistakes People

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Abby Durlewanger. Abby started the
Ketogenic lifestyle in 2017 after doing just about every other diet. She was
consistently losing weight and then would gain it right back on the weekend. She
found it hard to stick other diets because she was always hungry and having
cheat meals. She thought she could exercise the pounds away. After weeks of
research she finally decided to give Keto a try, but vowed it would only be for
6 weeks. After week 1 and the surge of energy, focus, and results she saw, she
was hooked! Abby has lost over 130 lbs and 145 inches. She went from a size 20

decided to lose weight, she would work out, eat fewer calories, and eat a
high-carb diet. However, Abby felt hungry all of the time, and she needed food
constantly. Abby’s trainer said to try a keto lifestyle. Within the first week
of keto, Abby already felt better. Instead of experiencing the keto flu, Abby
felt a surge of energy. For the first time in Abby’s life, she forgot to eat
breakfast! She naturally started incorporating fasting into her lifestyle.
[06:30] Instead of Eating Dietary Fat, Use Your Body Fat People think that you
need to consume a lot of fats in order to be keto. However, the metabolic state
of ketosis is not synonymous with weight loss. It’s possible to be in ketosis
and gain weight. What are your goals? That will determine what you need to do.
If you’re trying to put on muscle, then you’re someone that needs to eat more
fat. Children will also need to eat more fat on the ketogenic diet. If you are
overweight, the fat from your diet can come from your stored body fat. [11:00]
Why Abby Decided To Do A 41-Day Water Fast About two and a half years ago, Abby
got diagnosed with a rare breast disease. It looks like breast cancer, acts like
breast cancer, and is treated like breast cancer. At the time of her diagnosis,
less than 1,000 women in America had this disease. Basically, no one knew what
they were looking at, and no one knew what they were doing. They wanted to treat
Abby as though she was a cancer patient, but they could not find a cancer cell.
Abby was in the worst pain that she had ever been in her entire life. What Abby
had was something called idiopathic granuloma mastitis. Eventually, Abby decided
to do a water fast to let her body heal itself. Luckily, Abby was able to avoid
chemo and avoid getting her breasts removed. [27:20] The Physical and Spiritual
Healing That Happens During A Fast Every religion talks about some type of
fasting. During her fast, Abby felt like there was nothing she could not do.
Fasting helped Abby’s mental health. During the 41-day fast, Abby had an
awakening. She saw who she was and how she could contribute to the planet. Now,
Abby has loads of confidence; people tell Abby that she seems like a completely
new person. [33:45] The Decision To Feed Your Kids A Ketogenic Diet Abby’s
children were eating goldfish, syrup, whipped cream, Dr. Pepper, and Tootsie

watching the movie, Abby just stopped buying things that were filled with sugar.
In the house, Abby established a rule called “meats before treats.” When Abby
cooks for herself, she offers the same foods to her kids. Her son went from

sober almost thirty-seven years ago. When he got sober, he started to use sugar
instead of drugs and alcohol. Flour and sugar were just the staples of his diet.

Eventually, he started putting out his own information about sugar addiction on
the internet. [12:00] Why People Don’t Recognize Sugar As An Addiction People
are going blind and losing limbs because of sugar addiction. Some people
biochemically cannot ingest sugar. 95% of all people that lose any amount of
weight gain it all back and then some in the first year. The word addiction is
still stigmatized. So many people are not willing to consider sugar addiction a
real thing. [24:00] What Exactly Is Happening In The Brain When We Eat Sugar All
of the brain reward chemicals are affected by sugar. In fact, they are manually
manipulated by sugar. When you stop eating sugar, your dopamine receptors will
be thinned out. If you have a sweet tooth craving, you are looking for a
dopamine hit. You can give sugar to a one-year-old, and there are no ethical
worries. If you have high-stress events in your day-to-day, maybe you eat sugar
as a response. Then it’s time to remove the stressful situation so you can ditch
the sugar. [37:15] Caffeine Use Disorder Is Accepted By The Medical Community
Caffeine use disorder is actually in the DSM. The medical establishment has seen
what happens when people overuse caffeine. So, we still have to fight for people
who have sugar use disorder. Science is catching up around sugar addiction, and
hopefully, people can get the help they need from the medical community. [41:20]
Tips For Making The Transition To Keto In 2022 Keto is going to be hard for
about seven to ten days. Most likely, you are not going to feel well. If you
have a sugar addiction, you are going to be lethargic, and you are going to be
depressed. This is normal because your dopamine is finally getting a rest.
However, in the long run, you will have a better mood, you’ll sleep better, and

  [07:15] The Problem With Crowded Teeth and Breathing If the teeth are crowded,
your jaw is too small. If your jaw is too small, there’s not enough room for the
tongue. So, the tongue is more likely to encroach the airway. When your airway
is compromised, you may get disordered breathing during sleep. A palate expander
is something that can be useful to improve breathing.   [16:40] The Problems
That Can Develop With Chronic Mouth Breathing Yawning excessively can be a clue
to mouth breathing. Whenever Patrick works with a student, he tries to switch
them from mouth breathing to nose breathing as much as possible. He also works
on functional breathing patterns. Light breathing helps ensure the blood
chemistry is normal. You’re more likely to breathe light through your nose. By
changing our breathing patterns, we can stimulate the vagus nerve.   [21:55]
Patrick Explains How You Should Breathe Through Your Nose Bring your attention
to your breathing. Slow down your inhale, and have a slow, gentle exhalation.
When you need to breathe in, take in a gentle inhalation. At the end of the
inhalation, bring a feeling of relaxation to the body. When you do this
correctly, you will feel air hunger. As you do this for two to three minutes,
check the saliva in your mouth. Normally, it increases. When the human body
undergoes stress, the mouth goes dry. While on the other hand, when we slow down
our breathing, we should have more saliva in the mouth.   [38:40] Why Patrick

mouth at night can wreak havoc on your dental health. Mouth breathing will cause

Jason Fung, believe that both what you eat and when you eat matter. The IDM
Program utilizes therapeutic fasting and time restricted eating protocols with
their patients to help them reverse their type 2 diabetes and achieve
sustainable weight-loss. They encourage their patients to eat real foods and
adopt a low-carb lifestyle in addition to the fasting. You Can Be Metabolically
Unhealthy But Look Skinny There are two different types of fat: subcutaneous fat
and visceral fat. Subcutaneous fat is the fat that we are self-conscious of at
the beach. It sits between our abdominal wall and our abdominal cavity. This
type of fat doesn't exactly go into our organs or infiltrate our organs; it's
unsightly, and if we accumulate more of it, it puts us at risk for disease. The
secondary type of fat, visceral fat, is a real sneaky bugger. It sits under the
abdominal cavity. Plus, this type of fat wraps around your organs and
infiltrates into your organs. You can have a lot of visceral fat and still be
skinny. The scale doesn't tell us what our body is made up of. Is Insulin Bad
For You? Too much of anything good for you is bad for you. Not having enough
insulin, that's a problem, or having too much insulin too, is also a problem.
Sadly, mainstream medicine doesn't understand the definition of too much
insulin. Megan says that there is a time and a place for insulin injections for
certain people. However, most people are eating a diet that's highly processed
and full of refined sugars and fats. Plus, we're eating all of the time; so,
we're making our body produce lots of insulin over time. For North Americans,
our constant state is to produce insulin all the time. Our cells will develop
resistance. Remember, absence makes the heart grow stronger. Why Megan Loves a
Low Carb Approach You don't want to keep adding fuel to the fire; dietary
choices are essential. When you're eating low carbs, you're not adding more fuel
to the fire, and you're giving your body a chance to burn off some of that fire.
When someone already has insulin resistance, insulin resistance causes the body
to produce insulin. If you are constantly eating all day long, then insulin is
being leaked into the body all day long. Intermittent fasting will help break
the cycle of insulin resistance because you will be suffocating the fire.
Overall, the body is impressive, and you have to remove the interferences. The
Reason You Want Variation For Fasting  You don't want to slip into this one
meal-a-day pattern consistently because the body will adapt. You want to keep
confusing the body and changing it up; that way, the body won't adapt. It's
great to mix things up! Our primary hunger hormone is ghrelin, and when men and
women both start fasting, we see a drop in ghrelin. Then men's ghrelin tends
just to go up and down, and it stays relatively consistent. However, women will
see an initial drop; it will continue to decline more than their male
counterparts. Many women feel like they're constantly putting out this enormous
fire when doing alternate daily fasting. They would instead rather get into a
fast and stay there. If you want to stay in a fast, you can! However, you need
to cut out the snacks and reduce problematic foods. What We Talked About:

Before Dr. Paul’s appearance on The Doctors, he was told it would be a debate.
They had five doctors and one lawyer. Plus, they had a vegan doctor to argue
against Dr. Paul. There was a lot of yelling, and Dr. Paul was barely given a
chance to say what he needed to say. Paul invited them to his podcast to have an

[09:50] Why Dr. Paul Started To Eat More Carbohydrates Ketosis at the beginning
for Dr. Paul without carbohydrates in his diet seemed fine. Eventually, Dr. Paul
was getting a lot of muscle cramps, and he was getting heart palpitations at
night. So, Dr. Paul started to reintroduce carbohydrates into his diet. First,
he started to introduce honey into his lifestyle. After incorporating honey, Dr.
Paul started to feel better. Blood sugar will spike when you include
carbohydrates in your diet, especially honey. However, Dr. Paul’s blood glucose
tracing was very low.   [22:50] Why Dr. Paul Doesn’t Like The Term Insulin
Resistance Paul doesn’t like the term insulin resistance. He thinks metabolic
dysfunction is a more precise term. He doesn't like to say insulin resistance
because two types of insulin resistance are often confused and conflated. The
first type of insulin resistance is physiologic insulin resistance. Humans have
evolved a state known as ketosis, which goes hand in hand with physiologic
insulin resistance. Then, there is pathological insulin resistance. Many people
who exclude carbohydrates will see improvements in their physiology.   [34:50]
The Importance of Decreasing The Amount of Linoleic Acid In Your Diet Many
people should decrease the amount of linoleic acid in their diet. We have to
understand how much linoleic acid is in the foods we eat as humans. Soybean oil
has 45 to 50% linoleic acid. Butter and tallow, which has rendered animal fat
from cows, will have much lower levels of linoleic acid, around 2%. The
composition of our cell membranes takes a long time to change. So, breaking down
the linoleic acid will take a great deal of time. A low carbohydrate approach
will help lower the linoleic acid in your diet.   [40:00] What Happens When We
Consume Too Much Linoleic Acid When we eat more linoleic acid, we can find more
oxidized LDL. The oxidation and the instability of linoleic acid is one of the
problems. There could be some potentially hormonal roles for linoleic acid that
are negative as well. The underlying thing to consider here is an evolutionarily
appropriate diet for humans. We consume much more linoleic acid than we ever
have.   [47:25] Should You Be Taking Fish Oils on The Ketogenic Diet? Fish oil
spoils extremely fast. These oils are so fragile, and we're putting them in
capsules, and we're presuming that they're not oxidized. The only place Dr. Paul
is getting omega-3 is essentially from ruminant animal fat. Paul is not
convinced that omega-3s are that beneficial or that we should be pumping
ourselves full of them. There have been millions and millions of humans that
have no access to coastal foods; they did just fine from eating land animals.  
[64:35] You Want To Push Your Linoleic Acid Consumption As Low As Possible Paul
says to keep your linoleic acid consumption as low as possible. The human body
can't make omega-6, but there's omega-6 in everything. The linoleic acid
composition of a mother's breast milk changes based on their dietary
consumption. If you look at the hunter-gatherers, their linoleic acid in the
breast milk is much lower because they're eating so little linoleic acid in

Eating? If you think canonically about what a vegetable is, it's the part of a
plant that it doesn't want you to eat. Vegetables don’t have a role in human
health unless you want to go to great lengths to detoxify them. If you want to
do vegetables, ferment the heck out of them and maybe do something like
sauerkraut. Even some fruit can be problematic for humans.   [88:10] Is There
Really A Connection Between Eating Meat and Colon Cancer? We've been cooking
meat for more than a million years. Calcium is an essential part of every human
diet, whether you're getting it from bones or you're getting it from good
sources of dairy. When you have more calcium in the diet, you tend to see lower
rates of colon cancer. Overall, we should go back to the idea of what's
evolutionarily consistent, and we try to understand that as best as possible to

Preventative When It Comes To Covid We can improve our immune function and make
it more robust and more reactive when it needs to be. At the start of the
pandemic, there was a lot of skepticism around vitamin D and zinc. Plus, there
was a lot of skepticism around supplements, food, and the impact of nutrition.
Now, it seems to be much more readily accepted in the conventional medical
community. [17:30] Dual-Fuel Burning: What It Means and How To Achieve It
Ketones have been around for as long as we've been around as humans. We can burn
two different types of fuel: ketones and glucose. It protects our body from
essentially eating our muscles and ourselves to death if we go two or three days
without food. Dual-fuel gives us the ability to go for long periods of time
without food. We're carrying our own little refrigerator of food that we can
access at any point. Dual-fuel keeps our mood stable. [21:00] It’s Incredible
That We Have A Metabolically Flexible Body Our brain is designed to be able to
utilize glucose or ketones. However, the brain has a preference for ketones. If
we eat some sweet potatoes, we will mop up that glucose and use it immediately.

[26:20] How Long Does It Take To Retrain Your Hunger Hormone?   Ghrelin spikes
very predictably around when we usually eat. Our body will produce ghrelin, very
predictably, at nine o'clock, in anticipation of us having our breakfast. Your
ghrelin is trained to spike. If you want to eliminate breakfast, then you should
start to shift your ghrelin. Start moving your eating times 45 minutes back.
That way, you're training that ghrelin spike to ease off rather than stopping

[12:05] Comparing A Healthy Gut To An Unhealthy Gut People who have a relative
abundance of streptococcus are in some disease category. Streptococcus loves
glucose. Elevated proteobacteria is another sign of an unhealthy gut. There’s a
study suggesting that people who drink skim milk have a statistically
significant increase in Parkinson's risk. [18:30] Glyphosate: The Main Problem
That Is Disrupting Your Microbiome The number one thing disrupting the gut
microbiome is glyphosate. Most people do not understand how much the use of
glyphosate has increased in the last thirty years. Glyphosate changes the
biochemistry of the plant. Also, it changes the biochemistry of the soil, which
changes the nutritional uptake of a plant. So, you need to eat as organic as
possible. Also, make your legislators aware of the glyphosate problems. [23:55]

list.  [01:30] When You’re Scared of Fat, You’ll Be Hungry For Processed Foods
We are kept on an island of unhealthy seed oils by traumas around saturated fat
and cholesterol. When you’re scared of traditional fats, then that opens you up
to being hungry for whatever the processed food companies want to feed you.
Processed foods always have a lot of seed oils in them. Seed oils are truly
toxic.   [06:50] The Differences Between Monounsaturated, Saturated, and
Polyunsaturated Fats Monounsaturated is the main fatty acid in olive oil. The
most common fats in seed oils are polyunsaturated. Saturated fats are the most
common fat in coconut oil. It’s also the most prevalent fat in butter. The
difference between these fats chemically is the stability to heat. Saturated
fats are the most stable and have an antioxidant effect. Polyunsaturated fatty
acids oxidize and create oxidative stress.   [12:40] The Metabolic Pathway For
How Dietary Linoleic Acid Omega-6 Ends Up In The Membranes and Inner Fat Cells
You swallow a potato chip, and it gets broken up in your stomach a few hours
later. Then it shows up in your intestinal tract where enzymes from your
pancreas break apart the fats in there. Most of the fats are in the form of
triglycerides. We have to use lipases in our pancreas to break it up. From
there, it goes into the intestinal cells. Later, it gets picked up from your
liver. The liver takes it all apart and repackages it in this thing called
low-density lipoprotein.   [21:50] How Seed Oils Can Stay In Your Body For
Extended Periods of Time Linoleic acid in our fat cells has a long half-life.
Body fat is stuck with us until we use it. If you’ve been eating seed oils your
whole life, it will take a couple of years for it to be gone. If you aren’t
metabolically healthy or fit, you shouldn’t do extended fasts because they're
releasing so many pro-inflammatory oils all at once.   [27:35] Should I Avoid
Peanut Oil or Eat More Peanut Oil? Peanut oil is okay if it's unrefined. In
fact, peanut oil is actually good because it’s a traditional fat. Some peanuts
have oil profiles that are more like olives. There’s a lot of variables with
plants, so it's hard to be absolute about anything. The best quality peanuts are
the larger ones, and they do have a better fatty acid profile.   [33:15] Why Do
Some People Think That Seed Oils Are Good For You?   The American Heart
Association pumps out 13 journals either weekly or monthly. They're putting out
hundreds of articles every year, funded by Procter & Gamble and other companies
selling junk food and seed oils. The American Heart Association is giving out
the wrong information. Dietitians are doing their homework; their job is to read
the wrong pile of articles. The American Heart Association is the biggest fake
news organization out there.   [36:30] Effects of Fatty Acids on Mitochondria:

have PUFA in their body fat will feel tired when they go on a diet. PUFA is a
terrible fuel for your body cells. The mitochondria will stop producing energy
when their fuel is PUFA. When people go on a diet, they feel like they can’t do
it anymore because they are so tired. Energy loss is a huge part of obesity.  
[44:55] Why Ketones Are A Great Energy Source For The Mitochondria Ketones are
designed out of your body fat. When you're burning your body fat, and your liver
is healthy, it makes ketones for you. Ketones are like predigested fuel. Ketones
are a better fuel, and our cells actually work better when they have access to
that better fuel. Hearts that have access to ketones can actually pump 30%
harder than hearts that don't.   [47:45] The Brain Needs Omega-3 and Omega-6:
Here’s What You Need To Know Your brain needs omega-3 and omega-6. However, your
brain needs longer omega-3 and omega-6. Only fish and animal products can have
long versions of omega-3 and omega-6. You have to have these enzymes that
elongate them. If you've been eating too much seed oil, your enzymes are not
functional, and they don’t work very well. Fatty liver is such a devastating

list.  [01:15] Angela Speaks About Her Journey To Health Angela was diagnosed
with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). She was being prescribed Metformin, and
Angela had insulin resistance. After doing research, Angela started to
understand that there was a connection between PCOS and what she ate. When
Angela had the surgery for PCOS, she found out about her endometriosis. After
having three children, Angela realized there is a connection between the brain,
the body, and the impact on your immune system.   [06:30] Advice For Dealing
With Depression The first thing you need is acceptance. In life, the only thing
you can be certain of is change. Anything you can do to create peace in your
life will be helpful to you. If you want to run away from yourself, how are you
going to sit with yourself? Work on dealing with small moments first.   [10:40]
The Brain and Gut Connection: Depression Is Linked To Leaky Gut About 90% of
serotonin is made in the gut. You can help your gut to create more serotonin.
Aligning with your circadian rhythm will also improve your brain. Natural light
from the sun will significantly improve your circadian rhythm and allow you to
get more sleep at night. Women are depleted of vital nutrients, particularly
things like DHA in the brain. It takes a woman two years to recover from
pregnancy.   [14:10] How You Can Reverse Your PCOS For Good PCOS is a syndrome
and is related to insulin resistance. Carbs, stress, and not sleeping will raise
your blood sugar. Some people are genetically more carb sensitive. Having
protein and healthy fats are really key things that make you feel better. If you
have too many carbs, you will feel quite foggy. Another thing that improves
insulin sensitivity is strength training.   [21:30] Sleep Is An Essential Pillar
of Health   Sleep is going to make everything else in your life easier. In
Angela’s corporate job, people would brag about only getting three hours of
sleep at night. Most people need seven or eight hours of sleep. You are
compromising your health and the way you look when you get less than six hours
of sleep at night.   [25:35] Tips For Getting Better Sleep At Night How well you
sleep tonight is going to be changed by what you did this morning. Get outside
early in the morning. That way, you're really regulating the cortisol and
melatonin cycle. Red light therapy is also a beneficial tool. Another tip for
getting better sleep at night is limiting your exposure to blue lights.  
[31:10] Hormones: Know When To Dial Back Your Stressors Make sure you have a
nutrient-rich diet and you are not constantly stressing your body out. Everyone
should fast for at least twelve hours every day. For women, there’s a time when
you can push and stress your body, and there are times when you should not.
Before your period, you're naturally going to have higher levels of
inflammation, so it’s time to do less high-intensity exercises and start dialing
things back.   [35:00] The Importance of Insights On Your Health Journey You
need to know how you feel when you wake up in the morning. If you don’t have a
way of tracking, then it will be challenging to know when things start to
change. If you can’t afford trackers, just start with pen and paper. A CGM is
probably the best thing you can get to really fine-tune your eating behavior and
lifestyle behaviors.   [37:45] Fuel: There Isn’t A Perfect Diet That Fits
Everyone   There isn’t one diet that works for everyone; however, there is a
perfect diet for you. You can test some of your genetics to understand your
sensitivities around carbs and fats. Eating a more ancestral diet is really
important; take out processed foods. How you treat your body is the greatest
gift you can give yourself.   [42:30] Train Your Body and Train Your Mind You
need strength training to maintain and build muscle mass. Also, you want to do
some cardiovascular training. The more muscle mass you have, the better insulin
sensitivity you're going to have as well. Walking is underrated; you need to get

list.  [01:10] How Tara Started Unapologetically Honoring What Was Best For Her
Weight has been an issue for Tara since the third grade.  Being a stay-at-home
mom was definitely not aligned with Tara’s personality. She felt sad and
depressed as a stay-at-home mom.  Tara started weightlifting because the gym by
her house only had weights and treadmills.  After lifting weights for eight
months, Tara looked exactly the same. So, she decided to switch her nutrition –
she went from 40% body fat to 11% body fat.  Then, Tara found keto. She felt
healthy in both her mind and her body.    [11:20] The Discomfort That You Have
To Go Through Is Temporary The life of your dreams is a life of alignment with
yourself and your authentic self. Exercising and diet is a temporary stressor. 
You aren’t going to be stressed forever.  The actions required for you to gain
muscle is going to suck. However, your body is excellent at retaining muscle.
So, the discomfort is temporary.  How you see yourself matters way more than how
everyone else sees you.    [17:30] Why You Need To Align With Your Truth Most
people know that they need to stop exercising and sleep more. If you have
hypothyroidism, you're super inflamed, your CRP is off the charts, and you're
exhausted, then yes, you need to sleep more! Training is inflammatory, and if
you’re already inflamed, there will be problems.  You already know what you need
to do; listen to your body. Trust your feelings.    [21:15] Why You Don’t Want
To Be In Ketosis For Your Entire Life If you love being in ketosis, you can stay
in it for as long as you want.  If keto doesn’t feel as good as it used to, then
you may want to switch things up.  Keto impacts our neurotransmitters and our
mental health. When you eat a diet that is mostly fat and protein, your body
will favor dopamine production.  When you eat a diet that's mostly carbs and
protein, you will favor serotonin production.  If you're not eating carbs,
you're not going to favor serotonin production as much.  One of the reasons you
should carb cycle is to improve your emotions and mood.    [31:20] Guess What?
Insulin Isn’t The Enemy!  If you don’t have high blood sugar, then insulin isn’t
the enemy. Insulin is an energy shuttling hormone. It takes glucose and places
it in our bodies.  We can store anywhere from 350 up to 800 grams of
carbohydrates in our liver and muscles.  Athletes can eat a lot of carbohydrates
and not be obese because of the energy they are using.  If you aren’t
exercising, your body will store carbohydrates as fat storage.    [36:00] Tara
Always Trains When She Is Fasted – Here’s Why Tara always trains fasted; it’s
great for your metabolism. If you are healthy, you should be able to train
fasted in the morning. If you can’t train fasted, then you have some work to do
with your blood sugar regulation.  Tara will thrive off of adrenaline during a
fasted workout. Eating will bring your adrenaline down.    [39:20] Adrenals and
Salt: The Importance of Sodium On Keto If you don't have enough salt on keto,
your kidneys will excrete aldosterone, and then you'll start to have high
adrenaline and high cortisol long-term. Rushing women syndrome is a hallmark of
adrenal stress.  If you’re not okay with sitting still and being calm, then you
have adrenal stress.  Also, if you feel overwhelmed, then you have adrenal
fatigue.  So, make sure to monitor your salt intake.    [43:55] Are You Scared
of Carbs? How To Address Carbophobia  We have to foster a healthy mindset around
the fact that you're not eating carbs when you're doing keto. Carbs are not
going to kill you.  China has an obesity rate of 5 to 6%, they eat more rice
than any other country in the world.  In America, we have a 42.4% obesity rate.
It’s not just carbs that are making you fat.  Carbohydrates are not inherently
bad for us. It’s what happened to our metabolism from sitting all day,
overconsumption, and processed foods.    [50:20] When You Should Start
Implementing Carbohydrates   During keto, if you don’t feel that great anymore,
it’s time to start eating carbs again.  If you’re working out more, you can
start using carbohydrates to fuel your body and workouts.  If you’re not
sleeping well and have diarrhea, you should introduce carbohydrates again. Being
moody is also a sign that you need to add carbohydrates.    AND MUCH MORE!

obesity, and much of what he focuses on is a seemingly obscure condition called
insulin resistance. But it's, in fact, not very obscure at all.  What is insulin
resistance? Why did Dr. Benjamin Bikman devote his career to studying something
like this? Well, insulin resistance is essentially two things. First of all,
some cells in your body aren't responding very well to the hormone insulin.
Second, you have more insulin than you did before, a condition called
hyperinsulinemia. Dr. Bikman's research focus is to elucidate the molecular
mechanisms that mediate the disruption that causes and accompanies metabolic
disorders, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and dementia. Driven by his
academic training (Ph.D. in Bioenergetics and postdoctoral fellowship with the
Duke-National University of Singapore in metabolic disorders), he is currently
exploring the different roles of insulin and ketones as critical drivers of
metabolic function. He frequently publishes his research in peer-reviewed

and chest pains. By the time he was 42, Dr. Tom started to have vision problems.
Tom had a cataract. An asymmetrical cataract in a 42-year-old guy is unusual.
After doing some research, Dr. Tom saw that lead poisoning could trigger his
health issues. When Dr. Tom tested himself for lead poisoning, he had the
highest levels of lead that he had ever seen. Tom grew up one block from the
Ford assembly line with no government regulations for heavy metal filtration. He
was sucking in a lot of lead as a kid.  [16:30] Five Pillars That Contribute To
Chronic Disease Intestinal permeability is a Zonulin modulated mechanism. When
you have too much Zonulin being secreted, your cells are open too much, too
frequently, and too large. All disease begins in the leaky gut. There are five
mechanisms that create the perfect storm in developing chronic inflammatory
diseases: Genetics Environmental Triggers The impact of the environmental
triggers on the microbiome in your gut Leaky gut Systemic inflammation in the
body [37:25] You Have 10 Times More Bacteria In The Gut Than All The Cells In
The Human Body A teaspoon of poop has more bacteria than all the stars in the
known universe. Every forkful of what you put in your mouth will feed good
bacteria or bad bacteria. It will take months and months and months to change
the environment of your microbiome. Taking a capsule of probiotics each day will
not fix your gut. [40:20] Most Bacteria In Your Gut Have 100 To 150 More Genes
Than The Entire Human Genome Are we really humans with a whole lot of bacteria?
Or are we bacteria having a human experience? Genes determine function; every
scientist knows that. The genes that get activated stimulate the production of

You The word affirmation means a condition of firmness in one's mind. Putting

meaningful and really aligned with what you value most.  Things that are just
positive thinking can be delusional.  [17:45] The Differences Between Motivation
and Inspiration   Every human being lives moment by moment by a set of
priorities. Whenever they're doing something that's extremely high on their
values, they are spontaneously inspired from within intrinsically to act.
Anything that's low in your values you need motivation for extrinsically. So,
you need to find what truly is valuable for you to do.  [22:05] How You Can Find
Values In Your Voids Every time we judge, we create an emptiness. There's love
and judgment. With love, we have fulfillment. With judgment, we have emptiness. 
You can’t judge someone and feel whole.  Voids come from judgments; they leave
us empty, and they want us to be fulfilled. When we live by our highest
priority, we have the most fulfillment in life. Human beings and biological
organisms grow most at the border of support and challenge. [26:45] During
Covid, You Can Choose To See The Downside or The Upside “The mind is its own
place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.” – John Milton
There is nothing in the universe that's inherently good or evil, or positive or
negative. Everyone has had something negative happen in their lives. When you
look back on it six months later, usually you’re grateful that it happened. 
Illusions of one-sidedness are incomplete awareness. During Covid, you can
choose to see the downside, and you can choose to see the upside.  If you are
comparing your current reality to the past or future and you’re not being
present, you're missing out on the moment of the magnificence of what it can be
doing. [31:50] Bringing Things In The Balance Heals Physical Ailments  You
really can't have balanced physiology with an imbalanced perception. When you
perceive things that support your values, the parasympathetic comes online. 
When you perceive things that challenge your values, the sympathetic comes
online.  If you bring those into perfect balance, your heart rate variability is
increased, your resilience and adaptability increases, your cardiovascular
quotient is improved, your immune system is stabilized and improved. You need
both support and challenge to maximize growth and development. Remember, maximum
growth and development occur at the border of order and chaos.  [37:20] The

Eating An Unsuitable Diet Many people are attracted to a diet when they notice
they feel better from it. Joe eats a low-carb and meat-based diet. Genetics has
something to say about how people digest carbs. Some genes are related to how
people interact with their diet.  Many genes are related to how people process
fats.   [18:05] About The Sleep Deficit and What Problems Joe Will See With
Sleep Sleep is an art.  Sleep is something that people have to be conscious of
and not take for granted.  There's a lot of things that could go wrong with
sleep.  Some problems that you could be having with your sleep: Not enough REM
Not enough slow-wave Waking up in the middle of the night Having to pee Not
getting a good rhythm  Waking up from the light too early Light in the room at
night Poor temperature Eating too late As you can see, so many things can go
wrong with your sleep. If you don’t sleep well, you are not going to feel well.
If you aren’t tracking your sleep, you will never know.    [22:55] Light
Exposure Is Great For Feeling More Productive   If you don’t go outside during
the day, you aren’t going to feel as good.  Joe gets at least three hours of
light a day. When he gets light, he notices an impact.  You need at least two
hours a day minimum.  The more light you get each day, the better off you are
going to be.  Don’t wear your sunglasses!  If you don’t get a lot of sun
exposure, red light therapy can be the next best option.    [29:30] How
Unhappiness and Stress Can Affect Your Health Journey  One of the main
contributors affecting your longevity and health has to do with stress. The
people who live longer deal with stress a lot better. Stress really is
detrimental to the body in many ways. If you don't have good personal
relationships, that can cause a lot of stress.  Community is another great way
to feel better and less stressed.    [36:30] Natural Stressors Are A Great Way
To Feel Better  Exercise is a great natural stressor. Other stressors include
cold and hot therapies.  Changing your diet is another stressor. If you aren’t
stressing your mind and your body, then you aren’t going to grow.    [38:05]
Environmental Toxins Are Causing Health Problems  VOCs, mold, and environmental
pollution are causing health problems.  Open up your windows every single day to
help with environmental toxins.  Getting outside will also be helpful.  When you
breathe in the fresh air, it helps your immune system.    [43:55] What's The

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Joy Kong. She is a UCLA-trained and
triple board-certified physician, president of Thea Center for Regenerative
Medicine in Los Angeles, California, founder of Chara Biologics, and President
of the American Academy of Integrative Cell Therapy. She spearheads research and
development in stem cell therapy, has proven herself a major force in
regenerative medicine in the United States, and functions as a tireless mentor
for many other physician Dr. Kong is the founder of Chara Biologics, a company
that provides premier regenerative medicine products to physicians across the
United States. She is also the president of American Academy of Integrative Cell
Therapy, and an avid educator, helping physicians to become fully trained in the
science and practice of regenerative medicine. Dr. Kong is also keenly
interested in clinical research to advance the field of regenerative medicine,
and has cofounded a research organization to conduct a variety of clinical
studies. Dr. Kong has been recognized by the prestigious IAOTP (International
Association of Top Professionals) with "Top Doctor of the Year in Stem Cell

It Was Like Growing Up In Beijing, China  Dr. Kong grew up on a university
campus. It was more sheltered than most people in China.  She grew up in an
environment of learning and pursuing knowledge. However, Dr. Kong was also a bit
of a rebel. Dr. Kong never liked rules that didn’t make sense. She has been
getting in trouble since kindergarten.  Overall, Dr. Kong learned that your
environment can give you a certain strength or put you in a certain restraint.  
[03:45] The Differences In China and America When It Comes To Healthcare  China
has the biggest population in the world.  There are two medical systems. People
can choose to go into Chinese medicine or go into Western medicine. People who
go into Chinese medicine also have to learn the whole Western medicine system.
Only when people get great benefits will they start to accept a new approach to
healthcare.  Just because studies aren’t in English, doesn’t mean they don’t
exist.    [09:20] Can The Aging Process Slow Down For Humans?  There are all
these markers and symptoms of aging; we still haven't been able to label aging
as a disease. Aging is a comorbidity. However, aging is just part of human
life.  Some people will have a heart attack and die, while others will live
until their late nineties. Which way do you want your life to be? We need to pay
attention to optimizing our bodies, so we don’t suddenly have health issues as
we age.    [13:40] Stem Cells Have The Power and Potential To Do A Lot For Your
Body  Each stem cell contains this full package of intelligence that actually
makes being a human possible. A single stem cell has so much potential.  How
well a stem cell treatment works will depend on where the stem cells came from

Studies have come out looking at the potential capabilities of stem cells to
prolong life and extend healthspan. In a study of rats and mice, a simple stem

age, we are running out of stem cells.  Being alive means we are getting
damaged.  As long as you have enough cells to replace what's damaged, then
