MESSAGE FROM THE AMBASSADOR

“SUDAN, A GRAND NATION, AND LAND OF PEACE AND CIVILIZATION”

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Sudan and all my staff at the
Diplomatic Mission in Ottawa, I have the pleasure to welcome you to the official
website of the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Canada, and I would encourage
any comments or suggestions, promising to give them consideration in our future
updates.

Sudan sits at the crossroads of Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, and is
bordered by seven countries: Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Republic of South Sudan,
Central African Republic, Chad, and Libya. Four of these neighboring countries:
South Sudan, Ethiopia, Chad and CAR are land locked, that provides a chance for
Sudan to be their gateway to the world. Already all of oil from the Republic of
South Sudan goes to world markets through Sudan downstream facilities. As such
Sudan represents a suitable gateway. Sudan also borders the Red Sea to the
northeast. Its capital, Khartoum, lies at the confluence of the White Nile and
the Blue Nile, and its main port, is Port Sudan on the Red Sea.

I am honored to represent Sudan in Canada, a great nation and a modern country
rich in culture, traditions and attractions that have a lot to offer to visitors
and the world at large. I look forward to working with Sudanese and Canadians to
further our bilateral relations for the benefit of our two countries.

The relationship between Sudan and Canada is long-standing and counts at the
first place on an active Sudanese community in Canada. The bilateral partnership
between Sudan and Canada will continue to strengthen, and I believe that the
current situation in Sudan offers an excellent backdrop to our collaboration.

Sudan is widely recognized as a cradle of many great civilizations. Renowned
kingdoms like Kerma, Kush and Meroe flourished in the ancient world and made
splendid contributions to the humanity. Meroe which was the first to develop
iron industry in the ancient world was known as Birmingham of Africa.

Sudan is endowed with immense abundant untapped natural resources including vast
areas of land. Approximately 63% of Sudan’s land area is agricultural land,
which is suitable for a wide variety of crop cultivation and animal husbandry.
Cultivable land is estimated at 74 million hectares, only 25 percent of which is
currently under cultivation. Water resources comprise water from the River Nile
and its tributaries, seasonal streams, underground water and rainfall, estimated
around 30 billion cubic meters. Sudan’s vast multitude of domestic animals
represent a large proportion of all African livestock. Official sources
estimated cattle numbers at 42 million, sheep 55 million, goats 45 million,
camels 7 million and poultry 60 million. The fertile agricultural lands, the
enormous quantities of water, and the variety of its livestock qualify Sudan to
be the breadbasket for the Arab World, the Middle East and the African
Continent.

Today, as Sudan is experiencing long awaited democratic reforms and is
witnessing a new era after the major political change of 11 April 2019, the
people of Sudan, comprising various ethnic, cultural and religious groups, are
working tediously towards building a modern and democratic state with free
market and solid social institutions that will ensure its return to the
international arena and put back as an active and respected member of the
International Community.

This new historic political situation is the product of a popular uprising that
has been going for more than four months, the longest in modern history or Arab
Spring, ending into a civil-military partnership during the interim period.
Moreover, that uprising was characterized by being peaceful with women and youth
playing a leading role.

The country's foreign policy focuses on preservation of Sudan territorial
integrity, promotion of trans-regional economic cooperation, integration into
African and Arab structures and contribution to the strengthening of global
security. Sudan believes in a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs
of other countries and the autonomy of all nations in global politics, as well
as the right of states to relations based on common interest and mutual benefit.
It also supports an international order that promotes justice, equality, human
inter-dependence, sustainable development and good neighborly relations. Sudan
as a member of international and regional organisations, plays a major role to
enhance peace, security and stability in the region.

I believe that there are tremendous opportunities for both countries to work
together towards unlocking the huge potentials for mutual fruitful cooperation
and partnership in the future in all domains. Now our two countries enjoy
wide-ranging and ever-expanding ties across many spheres, including political
bilateral consultations, education, and cultural ties.

I invite you to use our internet sources, and glad to say that I and my staff
