The RCS Safe is a custom-made, fully lockable drawer1 with fingerprint reader
that takes the place of the Rivian Camp Speaker beneath the center console.

Rivian will recognize it as an OEM Camp Speaker, allowing you to lock the
cubby’s latching mechanism through the Rivian’s center display settings.

Locking the RCS Safe assembly within the Rivian cubby is a unique feature that
other third-party designs lack.

Once locked, it can only be opened through a programmable fingerprint reader
within the front panel of the RCS Safe2.

The sloped, concave shape of the panel interface makes brute-force entry by hand
difficult.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PURCHASING

Your inventory is showing out-of-stock. When will you restock?

The stock version of the RCS Safe is usually restocked every 1 – 2 weeks,
typically between Friday and Sunday. The sanded and painted version of the RCS
Safe does not restock as regularly as we only do a few of them every month.

You can subscribe to our mailing list to notify you when we restock (see pop-up
window at the respective product page that’s out of stock). Alternately, you can
reach out to us for a status of our restocking progress.

If I’m local to Huntsville, Alabama, can I save on shipping and handling costs
and arrange a pickup?

Yes. Use the “Contact Us” form to reach out for arrangements.

Can you make a custom mold insert for lining the interior of the drawer?

Possibly, on a case-by-case basis. We’re open to taking on a commission to make
a new mold design, but it will be pricy. Reach out to us via our “Contact Us”
form.

Your site only lets me add one unit to my shopping cart at a time. Can I buy
more than one and pay for combined/reduced shipping costs?

Yes, but there may be a wait time. We limit the per-order purchase count to one
in order to control inventory availability; this helps enable each person that
wants to buy one to be able to do so and reduce the amount of time we are in an
out-of-stock status.

You can request to purchase more than one via our “Contact Us” form to inquire
about reduced/combined shipping costs, and we can provide you with a cost and
ship-date estimate.

What’s the difference between the RCS Safe (stock version) units and the more
expensive RCS Safe (sanded and painted version) units?

The RCS Safe (sanded and painted version) units have front panels that have
received further processing by sanding and painting it to much more precisely
match the color of the Rivian’s center console trim. The sanding and painting
also helps smooth out natural 3D-printed imperfections on the front panel. Since
there are significant additional labor and materials cost to producing these
sanded and painted units, they are made at fewer quantities and sold at higher
prices for those customers that absolutely require the best finish and matching
color between the RCS Safe front panel and the Rivian’s console trim.

However, we feel that the quality of the stock unpainted 3D printed front panel,
as well as the color of the filament used, should be satisfactory to most buyers
for the stock price offered.

I accidentally damaged [part]. Do you sell replacement parts for self-repair?

We do, since we assemble everything in-house. Please make an inquiry by reaching
out to us using our Contact Us page.

USE AND OPERATION

Can I fit [object] in the drawer?

The maximum interior storage dimensions are:
-Length: 6.7″
-Width: 4.9″
-Height (mat included): 3.7″ interior shell wall height, 4.1″ absolute lock bar
clearance

Note that the available storage volume is partly taken up by the 1 inch thick
lock mechanism box in the front and 0.2 inch thick screw insert cones on the
sides (2 on each side).

How do I access the drawer if the internal batteries die?

There are two ways:
1) The easiest way is to unlock the console latching mechanism via the Rivian’s
center screen controls, then removing the entire RCS Safe assembly from the
cubby.
2) Failing that, there is a plastic cover next to the fingerprint reader that
can be removed, and a USB C power cable (powered by a battery bank) can be
inserted into the side of the fingerprint reader to provide bypass power to the
internal lock mechanism. This will allow you to use your registered fingerprint
to unlock the drawer.

I’m having trouble programming fingerprints into the fingerprint reader.

How do I reset the fingerprint reader if it malfunctions and doesn’t recognize
my fingerprint?

Each RCS Safe unit comes with a USB C bypass key that can be inserted into the
side of the fingerprint reader in order to bypass the security, allowing any
fingerprint to activate it. Once the security is bypassed, you can reset the
fingerprint reader memory and reprogram the fingerprint reader.

I’d like to purchase the stock unpainted RCS Safe and process the front panel
myself with sanding and painting it to match the Rivian’s console color. Got any
tips for me?

First, any altering to any part of the RCS Safe by the customer will make it
ineligible for return.

If you insist on doing it, however, here are some tips:
-The front panel can be removed from the black interior drawer by sliding it up
with respect to the interior drawer. This may require a little bit of force.
-Unscrew the two screws mounting the locking mechanism box from the back of the
panel (one of the screws is behind the battery cover), and remove the lock box
and separator plate.
-Detach the fingerprint reader cable from the lock box. Using a tool, push the
fingerprint reader forward from the back of the panel and remove the fingerprint
reader.
-Remove the fingerprint reader bypass cover from the front of the panel.
-Sand the panel in a circular pattern using progressively finer sandpaper (e.g.
100 grit –> 200 grit –> 300 grit –> 400 grit) until smooth. Rinse and let dry
completely.
-Spray the panel with primer. Let dry completely, ideally over 24 hrs.
-Lightly sand with 400 grit sandpaper, rinse, and let dry completely.
-Spray the panel with your preferred spray paint color and let dry completely,
ideally over 24 hrs. We find the “BEHR PREMIUM Chalk Classic Noir” spray paint
matching the Rivian console trim the best.
-Lightly sand with 400 grit sandpaper, rinse, and let dry completely. Reapply
another coat of paint and let dry completely, ideally over 24 hrs. Repeat this
step as desired or as instructed by your spray paint manufacturer of choice.
-Reinstall the fingerprint reader and lock box parts and reintegrate with the
rest of the RCS Safe assembly.

 2. WARNING: DO NOT STORE ANYTHING HAZARDOUS OR DANGEROUS IN THE RCS SAFE THAT
    CAN BE ACCESSED BY CHILDREN. Because the RCS Safe does not have a top cover,
    anyone with access to the vehicle’s center display (i.e. when the vehicle is
    unlocked, or passengers are already seated within a locked vehicle) can
    unlock the Rivian cubby dock latching mechanism through the center display
    settings, remove the entire RCS Safe assembly from the cubby, and gain
    access to the RCS Safe’s contents. Furthermore, Rivian vehicles
    unpredictably unlock the cubby latching mechanism at the same time as when
    the vehicle is unlocked (e.g. after putting the vehicle in Park from Drive),
    even though the latching mechanism re-locks when the vehicle is locked.
    Therefore, do not store anything in the RCS Safe that you do not want
    someone who has legitimate access into the vehicle to gain access into the
    RCS Safe’s contents (e.g. valet driver). ↩︎
 3. Photos shown on this website are of a demonstration unit of the product. The
    photos are not necessarily of the exact product you will receive. The RCS
    Safe’s front panel (the only visible portion of the RCS Safe when closed)
    color will always be dark gray to closely match the vehicle’s center console
    trim. The rest of the RCS Safe’s structure that’s not normally visible
    (unless opened) will be black. ↩︎
 4. The main structures of this item are 3D printed. As with any 3D-printed,
    custom-made product, there will be slight blemishes and imperfections (see
    demonstration unit photos in gallery of product). In order to keep
    production time and costs low, the stock version will be delivered
    as-printed. You may lightly sand and/or apply primer and paint as desired.
    However, any alterations made by the buyer to the RCS Safe will make it
    ineligible for refund or return. The sanded and painted version is
    functionally identical to the stock version, except we perform the sanding
    and painting of the front panel for you. ↩︎
 5. The RCS Safe is largely made of PETG thermoplastic polyester. PETG is known
    to maintain its shape and rigidity in temperatures as high as 180 deg.
    Fahrenheit with decent resistance to UV damage. However, it’s recommended
    that the interior cabin air temperature of your vehicle not exceed 140 deg.
