We'd like to announce that thanks to Texas Health and Atmos Energy, their generosity and the hard work of their amazing volunteers, the garden is open and ready to inspire learning in your students! SO, PLEASE START USING THE GARDEN! Reserve dates and times: Sign-Up Genius WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN THE GARDEN? We've been testing it out in small groups during HIT tutoring and we can confirm, the students love it! Here's the lessons we have been leading on Saturdays with cross-curricular content. Please take a look at some of the activities. They might inspire you. Lesson Activities WHAT'S IN THE GARDEN? Here's a quick look: WHAT CAN YOU DO IN THE GARDEN? Here's a few ideas: * Science - Plant something and watch it grow. * Writing - Try a creative writing prompt and go to the garden for inspiration. * Science - Perform a science experiment about weather conditions, plant life, insects in soil, composting, etc. * Reading - Read non-fiction articles about gardening * ELA - Go sit in the garden for free reading time * Math - use the back of a seed packet to plot out garden planting for optimal growth * Algebra - calculate rate of growth based on observation of different kinds of plants * EBs - immerse in vocabulary engaging senses, spark conversations about what they see in the garden. * Music - Play or sing in the garden and listen to the difference in acoustics, experiment to see if it has any effect on the plants * Art - Take your sketch pad and practice observational drawing with living things * Math - See multiplication in action as you watch seeds multiply their yield * Social Studies - Create an indigenous garden plot * Social Studies - discuss what types of vegetation grow in various climates across Texas or the US.
