OUR HISTORY

In 1965, Colorado Technical University was founded in Colorado Springs, where
the main campus remains embedded in a vibrant and growing community. As the
needs of a dynamic professional industrial complex expanded, the University
evolved from a technical training school to a respected university with
graduate-level programs in many of today’s most technologically demanding
fields.

1965 CTU begins operation as the Colorado Electronic Training Center in a
building originally used as a roller rink.
1970s Throughout the 1970's, with the aerospace and military industries fueling
area economies and generating a demand for a highly trained workforce, CTU
adapted and redesigned its curricula to present information and skills that were
more relevant to the engineering and computer science industry.
1980s CTU recognized the pending impact of technology on every industry, from
engineering and information technology to business and criminal justice. New
curriculums were planned in anticipation of the impact a booming Internet would
soon have on education and the desires of career-motivated professionals to stay
current with emerging technologies.
1995 CTU matured as an institution of higher learning by offering its first
doctorate programs and pioneering the freedom and flexibility of online
learning.
2010 CTU's M.U.S.E. (My Unique Student Experience) received the Association of
Private Sector Colleges and Universities, "2010 Innovative Best Practice/New
Program" award.
2012 The International Graduate Forum named Colorado Technical University in its
Top 10 Online MBA Program Rankings.
2013 Military Times ranks Colorado Technical University among the top online
schools for military veterans.

CTU Awarded ACBSP Accreditation for some of its Business Programs.
2014 CTU receives a WCET Outstanding Work (WOW) award for its intellipath™
adaptive learning technology.

CTU Students Named Finalists in National Security Innovation Competition.
2015 CTU’s Online Degree Programs received the 2015 Award for Outstanding
eLearning Program from the Instructional Technology Council (ITC) as a result of
our leadership and innovation in the areas of instruction, course/degree
development, faculty support, and professional development.

Elearning! Magazine awarded CTU as a 2015 Best of Elearning! honoree in the
Virtual Classroom category for its virtual and intellipath™ learning solutions
for faculty and students from Elearning! Magazine.
2016 CTU Mobile by Colorado Technical University is a 2016 International
E-Learning Award (IELA) winner for mobile learning: academic division.
2017 For 10 years in a row, Military Advanced Education has recognized CTU in
its Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities as one of the top
universities serving the educational needs of the Armed Forces

In 2017 and 2008, CTU received the Council of College and Military Educators
(CCME) Institution Award. This award is presented to an organization in
recognition of its quality education programs to military and veteran students
and their family members as well as the significant contributions to the cause
of military education.
2017 (Continued) Multiple Colorado Technical University degree programs ranked
amongst U.S. News and World Report's Best Online Programs.

Colorado Technical University received Tier One North American MBA School and
Top Ten Global Online MBA School rankings from CEO Magazine, which identifies
top business schools using fact-based criteria such as quality of faculty,
accreditation, faculty to student ratio and professional development.
2018 Colorado Technical University received a 2018 WCET Outstanding Work (WOW)
Award for the CTU Faculty Mobile app.

In September 2018, Colorado Technical University was recognized as a “Purple
Heart University” by the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH).
2019 For the fifth year in a row, Colorado Technical University's online
bachelor's programs ranked among the Best Online Bachelor’s Programs and Best
Online Bachelor's Programs for Veterans lists by U.S. News and World Report, a
globally respected organization and authority in education rankings.

CTU was recognized by Skyfactor Benchworks, a Macmillan Learning Company, as one
of the first recipients of the Assessment and Impact Award for Nursing
Education. The award was created to highlight schools of nursing that are
successfully using data to improve their programs, helping to retain students
and developing more practice-ready nursing professionals.
2020 CTU is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing
(Alpha Alpha Epsilon chapter).

CTU has been named among the Military Times “Best for Vets: Colleges 2020”
rankings for online and nontraditional schools. For ten years, Military Times
has conducted an editorially independent, objective study evaluating the many
factors that help make colleges and universities a good fit for service members,
military veterans and their families.
2020 (Continued) In 2020, Colorado Technical University received the Tier One
Global MBA and Tier One Global Online MBA rankings. Schools are assessed using a
fact-based criteria based upon key, weighted data points such as quality of
faculty, accreditation, faculty to student ratio, professional development and
more. The rankings include schools from Europe, North America, South America,
Asia, and Australia.
2021 For seven consecutive years, Colorado Technical University ranks among the
Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans list by U.S. News & World Report.

For the seventh year in a row, Colorado Technical University ranks among the
Best Online Bachelor’s Programs by U.S. News & World Report, a globally
respected organization and authority in education rankings.

   Our Denver South campus (located in Aurora) features an open floor plan and
