Interesting facts about vacuum cleaners

It was transported on a chariot, parties were held with it, and it was also
flown around the ISS. In our article we will tell you about interesting facts
about the main assistant of housewives - a vacuum cleaner.

THE FIRST VACUUM CLEANERS BLOWED, NOT SUCTIONED

The first mechanical vacuum cleaners appeared in the second half of the 19th
century in the United States. They did not know how to suck in air, but only
blew dust from the surface. The device was terribly inconvenient - they had to
be controlled by two people at once: one turned the handle and started the fan,
which blew off the dust, the second moved the main part of the device around the
room.

THE FIRST VACUUM CLEANER WAS TRANSPORTED ON A CARRIAGE

The prototype of the modern electric vacuum cleaner was invented by English
engineer Huber Cecil Booth in 1901. The device was called "Snorting Billy". The
vacuum cleaner was of impressive size, so it was transported on a horse-drawn
cart. It ran on a 5 horsepower gasoline engine and was manned by six people. The
unit was parked next to the house, and the pipe was thrust through the window.
The noise from Snorting Billy carried all over the area, but the housewives were
delighted with the new way of cleaning.

IN ENGLAND TEA PARTS WITH A VACUUM CLEANER

At the beginning of the 20th century, parties with a vacuum cleaner were popular
in Great Britain: ladies from high society invited guests to a tea party, during
which everyone watched as Snorting Billy cleaned up.

THE SMALLEST VACUUM CLEANER FITS IN THE PALM

The smallest vacuum cleaner registered in the Guinness Book of Records was
created in 2016 by Toby Bateson from the UK. The length of the device is only
5.7 cm. Such a crumb can only remove the Barbie house. Bosch also has a compact
new vacuum cleaner, the BGS05A221, which is slightly larger than an A4 sheet and
weighs 4.4kg. It does not claim to be a record, but it vacuums perfectly in a
small apartment and easily fits even on a shelf in a closet.

IN SERBIA VACUUM CLEANERS SING

Serbian jazz musician Rambo Amadeus staged performances in Belgrade museums in
2009, during which he created a melody on household appliances. His orchestra
included vacuum cleaners, mixers, washing machines and kettles. The domestic
cacophony was accompanied by a single musical instrument, the clarinet.

ON A VACUUM CLEANER YOU CAN FLY IN SPACE

On the International Space Station, as on Earth, a vacuum cleaner is used for
cleaning. In the absence of gravity, this device copes best with flying crumbs
and dust. And sometimes the vacuum cleaner is used as a means of transportation.
