Members contribute $500 or more annually to United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. WOMEN IGNITING CHANGE Members from diverse backgrounds and various life experiences unite in their shared passion for community impact, service, and philanthropy. Through educational opportunities, volunteer projects, leadership roles, and annual events, Women United members work together to uplift individuals and families in our community. SIGNATURE CAUSE Women United supports the impact work United Way is leading and their Signature Cause, the United Way Child Care Scholarships. The United Way Child Care Scholarships award funds to cover the majority of costs for quality child care for parents pursuing a degree for the first time. Each year, Women United hosts Power of the Purse, a purse auction benefitting United Way Child Care Scholarships and empowering parents to balance work, family and career goals to achieve economic mobility. In 2023, we collectively raised more than $230,000 to support families in our community. This year's honoree is Laura Vaccaro, CEO of Kronkosky Charitable Foundation and Women United Chair 2016-2019. * WOMEN UNITED CHAIR'S RECEPTION October 3 | Women United is welcoming 2023 United Way Campaign Chair Adam L. Hamilton to celebrate the work of United Way and the campaign season. Hosted by NuStar Energy. Invites are sent to members via email. * LEARN MORE CHILD CARE SCHOLARSHIPS Child care scholarships to help parents with the cost of quality child care while they are enrolled in college full-time or working and enrolled part-time. Joanna Weidman serves as Senior Vice President of Administration for NuStar Energy L.P., a publicly traded master limited partnership based in San Antonio. Since joining NuStar in 2007, Weidman has helped direct NuStar’s internal and external communications, community and government relations and facility services. She has helped build the company’s reputation as an industry leader with an unwavering commitment to safety, environmental excellence and community service. Just as importantly, she has helped establish the corporate culture that has earned top rankings on Fortune magazine’s list of the 100 Best Companies to Work for and People’s 50 Companies that Care. Additionally, Her honors include being named one of the 100 Diversity Leaders in Energy in 2021; receiving the 2019 Art of Humanity Award from the Autism Treatment Center; being inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame in 2015; and graduating from the prestigious Leadership San Antonio Program in 2010. She has received more than ten Silver Spur and Best of Texas awards from the Texas Public Relations Association and a team award from the Public Relations Society of America. A committed volunteer, Weidman serves on the board of Clarity Child Guidance Center, a Mentor with The Thru Project, and an Advisory Board Member of the South Texas chapter of Women’s Energy Network. She is the past Chairman of St. Peter St. Joseph Children’s Home and a past volunteer and board member of various nonprofit organizations in San Antonio. Weidman holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. A native Virginian, Weidman loves her adopted hometown of San Antonio, where she met her husband, Gordon.
