HOW TO USE THE IOLP WEB APP

To download this information as a PDF, click here

NAVIGATING THE MAP

Pan: Click and drag on the map

Zoom: Use the scroll wheel on a mouse, pinching gesture on a
touchpad/touchscreen, or “+” and “-” icons in the top left of the app;
double-clicking on the map will zoom in

Home: Returns the map to the default extent, which is centered on the
continental US.

My Location: Pans and zooms the map to your current location. You will likely
need to allow the app to use your location, usually through clicking “OK” on a
pop-up after clicking this button.

Legend: Describes which symbols represent which types of buildings or leases
on the map.

EXECUTING QUERIES

Use the buttons at the top left of the app to run queries against buildings and
leases in the IOLP dataset:

Search Buildings by Senator or Rep: Returns buildings (owned, leased or both)
within the state or congressional district of the chosen senator or
representative

Search Buildings by State or District: Returns buildings (owned, leased or both)
within the chosen state or congressional district. Click the “From Map” button
and then click a location on the map to automatically select the state or
congressional district that that point falls in.

Search Buildings and Leases by Attributes: Returns buildings and related leases
based on geography, lease expiration and/or vacant usable square feet. A state
must always be entered to limit the total results returned. Then a city within
that state may be entered or selected from the dropdown, after which a ZIP code
can be entered or selected. Any combination of other parameters can be used, and
only results that match all the criteria will be returned. If you would like to
exclude expired leases, set the “Lease Expiring After” parameter to today’s
date.

WORKING WITH QUERY RESULTS

After running a query, you may interact with the results in three ways:

Results List: In the window that appears under the query buttons, the results
are shown in a scrollable list with some basic information about each result.
Clicking on a result will zoom to that location on the map and open the pop-up
with more details. To edit the search parameters, click “<Search” in the upper
left corner of the query window. When you execute a new query, close the query
window, or click “Clear Results” the previous results will be cleared.

Map/Pop-Ups: The map will pan and zoom to the extent of the query results, and
the result points can be clicked on to open the pop-up and display more details.
If there are multiple results at the clicked location, all of their pop-ups will
open, and can be scrolled through using the “Next feature” and “Previous
feature” buttons at the top right of the pop-up.

The “Maximize” button will expand the pop-up to take up most of the app window
for easier viewing. You may need to click and drag the query results window by
the top navy bar to uncover the expanded pop-up. Do not close the query results
window as this will remove the results and close the pop-up.

Export Results: The results can also be exported as a .csv (comma separated
values) file that can be used in Google Sheets or Excel. Click the “Export
Results” button in the bottom right of the results window, enter a name for the
file, and click “Export and Save”. Depending on your browser settings, the
results will either be saved to your default download folder or you will be
prompted to choose a location to save the file.

Walk/Transit Scores: These scores (added where available) represent general
accessibility of the location and surrounding area by walking or public transit
on a scale of 0 to 100. For more info, visit the Walk Score website.
