The Chicago White Sox haven’t needed any help finding ways to lose this season,
but they got some Thursday, when a bizarre double play on an infield fly and
interference call ended their ninth-inning rally in an 8-6 loss to the Baltimore
Orioles.

With runners on first and second and one out in the bottom of the ninth, White
Sox left fielder Andrew Benintendi hit a pop-up to shortstop against Orioles
reliever Craig Kimbrel, and was immediately called out by the infield fly rule.
Third-base umpire Junior Valentine then called Andrew Vaughn, the runner on
second base, out for interfering with Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson before
he made the catch, ending the game. Vaughn appeared to make slight incidental
contact with Henderson as he retreated to second base on the play.
