WHY IS MEDIA FLUENCY IMPORTANT
TO FUNCTION IN A DIGITAL WORLD?

Media Fluency is the ability for people to understand, reflect upon, make
meaning and communicate in a variety of forms (words, graphics, images,
infographics, etc.). 



As our society becomes more digitized, citizens access information from
different sources, interact digitally, and share information. Youth and adults
need skills to critically examine and evaluate vast amounts of information and
messages; and build skills in using various digital tools. Plus, they need to
understand the role of media and communications in society and on themselves. 



Media fluent individuals are critical thinkers, media literate and use tools for
communication, work, and collaboration. They are skilled in finding,
questioning, researching, evaluating, synthesizing and curating information. 

 

Media fluent individuals transform themselves and others in order to inform,
educate, entertain and inspire others in a thoughtful, ethical and competent
manner.
