Wagamama Drinking responsively Meantime Knowing when to unplug Jack Daniel’s DRIVEN BY MIND CONTROL Yes, really! CLIENT SPLENDID PROJECT EXPERIENTIAL AND INNOVATION THE BRIEF AN #EPIC DEMONSTRATION OF SMARTER DRIVING Your car insurance premium will soon be calculated by the readings from the telematics box inside your engine. This Big Brother gadget measures your rates of acceleration and braking, top speeds, and the location and time of day you are driving. So for cheap insurance, it won’t be enough to have a clean driving record, you’ll need to continually demonstrate safer, smarter driving. And this ‘smarter driving’ message is what MoneySuperMarket wanted Splendid to get across, in the most epic way possible. SOLUTION PUTTING OUR BRAINS TO WORK We started scribbling down increasingly far-fetched uses of creative technology. Then some bright spark at Splendid piped up, "How about we build a mind-controlled car?". We laughed. And then wondered, what if? Computer driven cars have been proven by Google’s self-driving car. And EEG headsets that enable you to control basic computer commands have been around for a few years. So what if we put them together? Firstly, we needed a full-size remote control car. Enter, Dr James Brighton and his robot driven BMW. Then we needed to connect the EEG headset to James’ robot, and find a way of turning brainwaves into steering commands - think left, turn left, think right, turn right. After A LOT of calibrating, testing, calibrating, and testing again, we got it working. #EPICMindDrive was ready. Now it was time to find some drivers. USE YOUR HEAD Splendid had recruited a number of very excited driving and tech writers, plus celebrity brainiac Carol Vorderman. We were tasked with finding a member of the public to join them on the test track, by creating a competition which required drivers to use their heads. We created a dual-screen game in which players used their mobiles as controllers and desktops as monitors. Once they’d dialled in on their mobile via Skype or Facetime, we used face-tracking software to turn tilts of their head (captured through their phone’s camera) into driving commands - tilt head left, turn car left. The person who navigated our Tron-like track in the quickest time won the chance to drive our mind-controlled car. THE RESULT READY, STEADY, THINK! Two days of filming produced #epic video content of our drivers battling with their brains and mastering our mind-controlled car. Once Splendid seeded the story and video to publications and websites, and backed this up with strategic search advertising and SEO, news quickly spread. The success of the campaign has since been recognised with award nominations from Marketing Agencies Association and UK Search Awards. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SHARE THIS PROJECT ON: Twitter Facebook Linked In WhatsApp This is a fan’s world Last.fm Next... All Rights Reserved HOLY BROADBAND BATMAN! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WASSERMAN / SKY PROJECT AN INTERACTIVE EXPERIENTIAL INSTALLATION THE BRIEF WE NEED AN IMMERSIVE GAME & WE NEED IT FAST! Every two months Sky hit the country’s shopping centres with an experiential activation drawing attention to their latest offer. January’s was their best ever offer on fibre optic broadband, with supporting messages about their Service Superiority. To draw attention to the campaign they partnered with The Lego Batman Movie. TVCs and OOH ads featured ‘Legofied’ versions of their Tech Team, and their retail activation stands were designed to look like sets from the movie. Our challenge was to use the Lego Batman characters to create an immersive game for their shopping centre activations, which could also live online to encourage players to share it with family and friends. OUR SOLUTION A 360° SHOOT ‘EM UP INSTALLATION As is often the case, we turned to a pre-digital game for inspiration; the fairground duck-shooting game to be precise. We synced four screens, positioned in a 360 circle around the player, so that The Joker and members of the Tech Team intermittently popped up on one of them, before disappearing and popping up on another. The objective was to shoot The Joker, but not the Tech Team. Now for the shooting mechanism - we needed a way of detecting which of the four screens the player was shooting at. The answer lay in our pockets. Smartphones’ accelerometers detect where your phone is pointing at any one time, horizontally and vertically across a full 360 degree range. Perfect for controlling a Batarang shooter, which you fire by flicking your finger across the screen. Next Image Previous Image 1/5 AND ONE MORE THING A TRUE 360° MOBILE EXPERIENCE The online version of the game followed the same premise, but condensed the experience into a single smartphone. The screen shows a cityscape, which you navigate by turning in a 360 degree circle. Once again, The Joker and the Tech Team pop-up intermittently, but this time you tap the sighter on the screen as they appear, rather than flicking a Batarang. The biggest challenge in both versions of the game proved to be avoiding getting so dizzy, while chasing The Joker around the 360 degree environment, that you fall over! All Rights Reserved A KRISPY KREME VENDING MACHINE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DEVRIES SLAM PROJECT AN EXPERIENTIAL HIGH STREET INSTALLATION THE BRIEF CREATE EXCITEMENT FOR A NUTTY COLLABORATION BETWEEN TWO SWEET BRANDS DeVries SLAM called us about a top secret project for Krispy Kreme. Brilliant we thought, as visions of Homer Simpson swirled around our heads. Then they told us the timeline… six weeks from this initial briefing to live. Doh, we thought. But the project was too good to let a silly thing like hours in the day stop us. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE PERFECT PAIRING ALL ABOARD THE NUTELLA TRAIN! Krispy Kreme were launching the Nutty Chocolatta™ doughnut - a doughnut filled with pure Nutella® Hazelnut spread. To publicise the launch DeVries SLAM had proposed turning the Holborn store into #HoleInTheWall, a giant doughnut ATM! Opening for two weeks, #HoleInTheWall would allow people to pay via contactless, with all profits going to Teenage Cancer Trust. And they wanted us to build it. OUR SOLUTION A JOY-FILLED, INTERACTIVE #HOLEINTHEWALL We had two floor-to-ceiling windows and the door between them to play with. Taking inspiration from Willy Wonka, our design filled the windows full of spinning wheels, flashing lights and doughnut-delivering toy trains. We then replaced the glass door with a wooden one, which displayed the CTA and campaign hashtag, and housed a contactless payment system and the delivery hatch for the doughnut. The overall effect was a pedestrian-stopping display sure to fill every customer with joy. How could we track who had used #HoleInTheWall? Our contactless system allowed customers to pay simply by holding their bank card or Apple Pay enabled iPhone to the door. We also gave them the option to enter one of the 500,000 unique voucher codes Krispy Kreme had sent to their fans, plus press and bloggers. By tracking the codes we can tell who redeemed their voucher, and DeVries SLAM and Krispy Kreme can tailor future outreach towards those who’d made the effort to get to #HoleInTheWall. CONTACTLESS THE PURCHASE NEEDED TO BE SEAMLESS, SO WE SET UP CONTACTLESS PAYMENTS ON THE STORE FRONT DOOR. THE RESULT LET’S JUST SAY IT WENT VERY WELL... Customers queued for the experience! #HoleInTheWall sold 6,904 Nutty Chocolatta™ Doughnuts during the two weeks it was open. That's one doughnut sold every 1 min 40 seconds! Coverage, coverage, coverage... It wasn’t just the customers working themselves into a frenzy. There were 222 pieces of coverage within 14 days, including Huffington Post, ELLE and Buzzfeed, with a combined potential reach of 244,774,939. We even went international, with Grazia France getting in on the act. And social was impressed! 6,279 tweets and Instagram posts generated throughout the campaign, delivering 81,161,979 impressions. Krispy Kreme trended organically on Twitter and took the No1 Facebook trend spot, rivalling London Mayor #PollingDay! All of this contributed to the icing on the doughnut - the point three days in, when Nutty Chocolatta™ overtook the iconic Original Glaze as the No1 selling Krispy Kreme nationwide. With Naomi Campbell as the face of the new collection, we had the best Dropbox in town! The theme for this campaign was crime scenes, with Naomi and the girls of Agent Provocateur posing as detectives. Our job was to showcase the photography in an interactive online experience. SOLUTION ...KARLIE, IN THE GARAGE WITH THE CUFFS? We moved the romance from the bedroom into the library, study and billiards room! Inspired by the sexiest (?!) of all boardgames, we created an online Valentine’s mystery game. We asked players to pick a suspect from the most beautiful line-up ever, along with a weapon of seduction and a location, before challenging their Valentine to solve the mystery. CASE CLOSED? EVEN IF THEIR VALENTINE DIDN’T GUESS CORRECTLY, THE MYSTERY WAS REVEALED AND THE CLUES WERE THERE FOR THE PURCHASING! Next Image Previous Image 1/3 THE RESULT FROM CLUES COME CONVERSIONS By including ‘buy now’ buttons next to each of our weapons of seduction, we drove 11,000 people to Agent Provocateur’s online store. By enticing visitors to invite their partners, we tempted 14,000 to sign up to Agent Provocateur’s mailing list.
