Our Police Stories – Preserving the dignity everyone deserves

“We were surprised, in a good way. We were not looking for any form of
recognition. We just did what we felt was right to do.”

Meet SGT Amirul, SGT Wee Keat, SC/SGT Abdul Kalaam and SSSgt (V) Joe Tan, from

Our Police Stories – Preserving the dignity everyone deserves

On 18 Mar, a viral TikTok video showed officers helping to secure a blue tent to
cover a deceased person. Netizens praised the officers for braving the downpour
and for their display of empathy and care.

SGT Amirul: We were surprised, in a good way to the netizen’s reactions. To us
it was just something that any officer would do.

SGT Wee Keat: Yes, and for those who might ask - the blue tent is used to
preserve the scene and also to protect the dignity of the deceased.

SC/SGT Abdul Kalaam: As a Ground Response Force officer, we come across a wide
spectrum of cases every day. Sometimes we can successfully save people,
sometimes we can’t. We talk about it, find out what we can do better next time.

SSSgt (V) Joe Tan: Being a VSC officer can be an eye-opening experience. I’ve
gotten a lot of takeaways from my service, and I like how closely we work
together with regulars and PNSFs.

SGT Amirul: We do feel emotional when dealing with some cases. But we learnt not
to let emotions get in our way, so that we can carry out our jobs
professionally. At the end of the day, what matters to us is that we try our
best in every situation, to protect lives and properties. 😊
