African Development Bank commits to ongoing collaboration with #Lesotho's civil
society organisations (CSOs). In a demonstration of its commitment to
transparency and inclusivity, the Bank provided insights into the economic
landscape, the existing country portfolio, and its engagement strategy with
#CSOs. CSOs, in turn, underscored the nation's pressing development hurdles,
such as soaring youth unemployment, insufficient government-CSO collaboration, a
sluggish private sector impeding job creation, and inadequate coordination among
governmental entities and other stakeholders. The meeting with Bank
representatives aimed to gather input on the Bank's current Country Strategy
Paper (CSP) for Lesotho (2020-24) and to discuss the upcoming CSP for 2025-29.
More on the pivotal role CSOs play in implementing development initiatives:

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed to providing Pakistan with $2
billion annually for the next three years. This funding aims to support

poverty reduction. The financial assistance will focus on sectors such as
energy, education, and public health, in addition to boosting Pakistan’s
climate resilience and sustainability efforts. ADB’s financial commitment
aligns with Pakistan's long-term development plans and aims to address key

It’s always invigorating to meet with clients, partners, and colleagues in
Washington, DC in the context of the #WBGMeetings. This year, in all our
discussions, there was one single thread: the challenges in the #MiddleEast,
#Afghanistan and #Pakistan might be many but the private sector has the power
to unleash vast opportunities and spot-on solutions. The need to create jobs
and address climate change dominated all conversations – including my
meetings with delegations from Pakistan, #Jordan, #Iraq, and #Lebanon as well
as representatives of #Yemeni businesses, the Palestine Monetary Authority
(PMA), the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development , and the Asian
Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).   From leveraging structural reforms
in Pakistan to facilitating #PublicPrivatePartnerships in Jordan, our role
can be pivotal for development in the countries we operate and I am confident
we can deliver, especially if we foster strategic partnerships, focus on
inclusion, and push for innovation in all that we do. IFC Middle East

African Development Bank Group to steer this vital dialogue on #Zimbabwe’s
journey towards fully implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area

Bank (AfDB) is a public multilateral development finance institution
established in 1964 with the mission of fostering economic growth and

The funding comprises a grant of €3.2 million from the African Development
Fund, the Bank Group’s concessional funding window and another grant of
€40.96 million from the Transition Support Facility, a mechanism designed to
provide additional concessional resources to countries facing situations of
fragility and conflict. 👉 𝐓𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥
𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞: https://lnkd.in/d9U8iVcJ “The Bank is one of Chad’s preferred
financial partners in the transport sector and its intervention policy in
this sector targets the country’s main agricultural production areas,”
declared the Bank’s Director General for Central Africa, SERGE MARIE
N'GUESSAN, following the approval. “The Bank has already been involved in
developing the Koumra-Sahr section of the N’Djamena-Abéché corridor. Its
intervention in the Kyabé-Mayo section is therefore in line with other
developments planned for this corridor and will be a tangible expression of
the institution’s key support for Chad, with the aim of lifting it out of
fragility and strengthening the resilience of its population, in a country
with one of the least dense road networks on the continent,” added N’Guessan.

Africa stands on the verge of a transformative era, with untapped potential
ready to be unlocked. The AFDB, is driving this transformation with its bold
5-point agenda, urging African nations to seize control of their economic
future and compete on a global scale. Key to this vision is the creation of
an African Credit Rating Agency, aimed at offering fair assessments of
African economies. Current global rating systems have hindered growth by
labeling the continent high-risk, raising borrowing costs. With a regional
system, Africa can secure better financial terms, driving investments in
critical sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, and education. The AFDB also
proposes an Africa Stability Mechanism, designed to shield the continent from
external financial shocks. As the only region lacking such protection, Africa
remains vulnerable to global crises. This mechanism will enhance economic
resilience, ensuring nations are better prepared for future
uncertainties.Private sector growth is another focus. The AFDB aims to
attract private investments through the African Insurance and Guarantee
Agency, which pools risk and provides guarantees, especially in industries
like agriculture, technology, and manufacturing. Collaborating with global
institutions will boost investor confidence, accelerating economic progress
across the continent.Security challenges are also being addressed. Through
Security Index Bond Investments, developed in partnership with the African
Union, resources will be directed toward rebuilding conflict-affected
regions, fostering stability and growth.Additionally, the AFDB emphasizes the
importance of recognizing Africa's green assets—forests, biodiversity, and
carbon sinks. Including these in GDP calculations will reflect Africa's true
wealth, positioning it as a leader in sustainable development and climate
action. This approach will also unlock new funding opportunities for the
continent.Africa’s resource management is crucial to its future. Countries
like Niger have taken control of their assets, like gold, retaining more
value domestically. Oil-rich nations such as Nigeria and Angola can replicate
this model by refining oil domestically, creating jobs, boosting GDP, and
promoting cleaner energy. For these reforms to succeed, Africa must tackle
corruption. Transparency and accountability are essential for attracting
investment and driving long-term growth. Only through good governance can the
AFDB’s vision for a prosperous, inclusive Africa be realized.International
partnerships remain vital. Africa’s progress depends on collaboration with
global institutions that share its vision. Together, Africa can harness its
abundant resources, build sustainable economies, and rise as a global
financial leader. Now is the time for action. By addressing challenges such
as credit ratings, insecurity, resource management, and corruption, African
leaders, policymakers, and citizens can chart a new course for the
   continent’s future.

Sudan Increases Pledge to $3 Million for ADF-17 Replenishment -Champions the
Call for a Bigger ADF-17 Replenishment Envelope of $25 Billion As Executive
Director representing Sudan at the African Development Bank Group, I want to
commend Sudan for their recent strong pledge of $3 million to the ADF-17
Replenishment efforts to ensure that the Bank achieves its goal for a bigger
ADF-17 Replenishment envelope of $25 billion. This pledge by Sudan is a
significant increase from their initial pledge of $1 million, despite their
ongoing challenges of a civil war. In 2023, all five countries of my
Constituency at the Bank, including The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone
and Sudan, pledged $1 million each to the ADF-17 Replenishment efforts.
Recently, Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, President of the Bank and Heads of State
of Africa made a bold call for a bigger ADF-17 Replenishment envelope of $25
billion. President Ruto of Kenya has been championing this call by pledging
$20 million on behalf of Kenya. This act of leadership by Sudan is in
response to the call for a bigger ADF-17. Sudan exemplifies deep commitment
to Africa’s sustainable economic growth and development, while fostering the
Bank's shared vision of mobilizing $25 billion for ADF-17.

African Countries Push for $25 bn Replenishment of African Development Fund
as Sudan Tops up Its Pledge Sudan has increased its pledged contribution to
the replenishment of the African Development Fund, the concessional window of
the African Development Bank Group, to $3 million, its Minister for Finance
and Economic Planning Dr Gebreil Ibrahim Mohamed Fediel announced. Bank
President Adesina praised Sudan’s “incredible show of solidarity for
increasing its contribution to the Fund and for continuing to honour its
financial commitments to the Bank despite facing difficult challenges.” The
governments of the Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Sudan are supporting
efforts by the African Development Bank Group to push for a $25 n
replenishment of the Fund. The four countries, together with Ghana, last year
pledged to contribute a minimum of $1 million each to the African Development
   Fund’s 17th replenishment scheduled for 2025. Details: https://bit.ly/48ohKga
