STATE RECOGNITION FOR 32 TR SCHOOLS

09/25/2023 03:39 PM

Thirty-two Twin Rivers Unified schools are being honored at the state level for
successfully implementing a school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and
Supports (PBIS) framework during the 2022-2023 school year. The schools are
receiving platium, gold and silver awards from the California PBIS Coalition.
PBIS is an evidence-based, decision-making framework for improving important
academic and behavioral outcomes for all students. It is a multi-tiered system
of support (MTSS) developed to promote positive, safe, and supportive school
climates for all students by clearly identifying positive behavioral
expectations and explicitly teaching the desired behaviors to students.

To acknowledge this honor, the district’s name and recognized school sites are
displayed on the California PBIS webpage and will be posted at the Eighth-Annual
California PBIS Conference in Sacramento Oct. 11-13. To view this webpage click
here.

Congratulations to all the TR schools and district administration for the
outstanding work in making our schools PBIS award-winners!

NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

09/18/2023 01:04 PM

“One of the greatest things you have in life is that no one has the authority to
tell you what you want to be. You’re the one who’ll decide what you want to be.
Respect yourself and respect the integrity of others as well. The greatest thing
you have is your self-image, a positive opinion of yourself. You must never let
anyone take it from you.”

Bolivian-American educator Jaime Escalante (Dec. 31, 1930 - March 30, 2010)

#TRUSDPROUD

09/21/2023 01:55 PM

Twin Rivers Unified could not be more proud of Patrick Durant. The Kohler
Elementary School principal is the recipient of the 2023 K-12 Equity Leadership
Award from California State University, Sacramento (CSUS).

"It was a total surprise," says Durant, who was nominated by his peers and
selected by a review committee at CSUS. "I feel humbled to be able to use my
space to help remove barriers for students. Without the support of the district
and the team at Kohler, I would not be able to do the work that we do on a daily
basis."

Durant has been Kohler's principal for five years.

DEBUT OF GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL IN TWIN RIVERS

09/06/2023 01:23 PM

Girls flag football is officially here, and no one is happier than Ja’Niya
Haley. She’s passionate about football and is on her way to becoming a shining
star on the field. The Grant Union High School junior plays offense and defense
for the Lady Pacers girls flag football team.

“I’m pretty excited,” says Ja’Niya. “I’ve always wanted to play regular football
so this is a great opportunity for me to play. This is a long time coming—should
have had this when I was a freshman.”

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) officially added girls flag
football to its list of sanctioned sports for the 2023-2024 school year.
Currently, Grant is the only high school in the district with a girls flag
football team. But that could change as early as next week when Rio Linda High
School hopes to have a team ready to play.

“There was a lot of excitement and anticipation for our first flag football game
in the Twin Rivers Unified School District,” says Dr. Micah Simmons, Deputy
Principal on Special Assignment and Supervisor of Secondary Athletics. “It's
safe to say that we've unlocked a new level of excitement, incredible teamwork,
and a true sense of sportsmanship for our female student-athletes. The thrill of
chasing down those flags, executing plays, and scoring touchdowns creates an
electrifying atmosphere on the field for our fans. This is just the beginning of
our flag football journey. The coaches and players will continue to work on
strategies, refine skills, and continue to enjoy the camaraderie that comes with
this sport. We are looking forward to the Grant Pacers and Rio Linda Knights
having a fantastic season filled with thrilling moments and memorable
victories.”

Grant has 18 players. Teairra Anderson is among them. She’s a senior who is also
on the track team.

“I’m feeling good,” says Teairra. “A lot of girls want to play, and it’s a great
opportunity for us. We practice Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school, with
games on Thursday. It’s fun!”

TRUSD SCHOOL SAFETY MEASURES

08/22/2023 01:00 PM

August 22, 2023

To Our Twin Rivers Families,

In Twin Rivers Unified School District, your children come first. School safety
is our highest priority, and recent local and national incidents/events
highlight how critical it is for all of us to work together to ensure a safe
environment for our children to learn, grow and thrive in our classrooms and in
the community.

We recognize that it’s hard not to worry and feel vulnerable with each report of
a violent crime in the area. There are likely concerns about campus safety, and
we want to take this opportunity to highlight our safety and security measures.
It’s important for you to know that there are many efforts taking place
throughout the district to keep our students and staff safe.

TR SAFETY & SECURITY PROTOCOLS AT ATHLETIC/SPECIAL EVENTS

08/18/2023 09:53 AM

Dear Families,

All fans who attend high school athletic/special events in Twin Rivers Unified
School District will be required to enter our venues through a weapons detection
system, effective Friday, Aug. 18, 2023. Bags and attendees may be subject to a
secondary screening if the system indicates a need for one. This new procedure
is designed to enhance the safety and security for all attendees at each venue.
Weapons of any kind, alcohol/illicit contraband, and smoking or the use of
tobacco products are prohibited on all district properties.

Other safety protocols include:
 * No backpacks
 * Students 14 and younger who do not attend our district schools must be
accompanied by an adult at all times
 * All students must have a student identification card
 * If individuals leave the venue/event, they will not be able to return (no
   re-entry)
 * Attendees engaging in disruptive behavior may be escorted from the
venue/school grounds, and could be banned from all future sporting/special
   events on our campuses

It is essential to maintain safe and secure learning and competition
environments for all students, staff, families and community members. We
encourage all attendees to plan ahead by arriving early and following all
protocols. Failure to follow protocols may result in denial/removal from the
event.

children; and, the bus displays flashing red lights and/or a stop signal arm.

Your Safety Checklist

and parks and in all residential areas.
 * Obey posted school zone speed limits (25 mph) and avoid passing other
