We aim to create a hub for entrepreneurs who share the same vision, technology,

society’s foundation, nurture supportive community networks, and unlock

FAQ

Who can join the Open Internet Summer?

The Open Internet Summer is open to anyone interested in learning, building, or
brainstorming on projects related to the following topics: Internet Computer,
DAOs, Web3, and Open Internet Services.

Even if you are not a coder, you can still join the event. Many of our teams are
looking for beta testers to provide valuable feedback on their products. The
best approach is to tell us what you'd like to do, and we will guide you to the
relevant activity.

Is the event online or local?

The Open Internet Summer is first and firemost a designed as a digital
experience, but we know the importance of connecting and being with others.
That’ why we've introduced the concept of "hacker hubs." If you'd like to
organize a local event, please get in touch!

I am new to the #ICP community, can I participate?

Yes! This is the perfect event for you to get started. You'll meet experienced
members and builders from the community. During the Open Internet Summer, you'll
also have the opportunity to complete the self-paced "Motoko Bootcamp" course to
learn about the Internet Computer, Motoko and the power of DAOs.


What is #ICP and why should I care?

ICP stands for Internet Computer Protocol. Created by the DFINITY Foundation and
released in 2021, this protocol operates on all the nodes that make up the
Internet Computer.

The Internet Computer is a decentralized cloud that leverages blockchain
technology. Unlike centralized clouds like Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud,
which are controlled by large corporations, the Internet Computer is managed by
a DAO - a new governance structure. This allows us to host complete websites and
applications directly on-chain. This is a game-changer in the Web3 industry with
the potential to decentralize all industries (education, social media,
governance, etc.) and will likely impact your life soon.


What is Motoko? What are DAOs?

Motoko is a new programming language to build on the Internet Computer. DAOs are
a new type of organisations that runs on the blockchain. DAOs can be used to run
a startup, a government, an association, a political party, and new kind of
organisations we can’t even imagine right now.  The Internet Computer empowers
DAOs to transparently manage full-stack applications and websites. We believe
DAOs represent the future of work and human collaboration.


What is Motoko Bootcamp?

Motoko Bootcamp is a rite of passage in the #ICP ecosystem. It’s a 7-day
bootcamp which goal is to help you get started in Web3 by learning Motoko,
building a DAO, and connecting with the community. Motoko Bootcamp was created
by some of the earliest ICP community members and led by Seb, with support from
Code & State, over the past two years. After introducing hundreds of builders to
the power of decentralization, we've decided it's time to hand ownership of
Motoko Bootcamp to the community.


What do you mean by “building DAOs in public”? What if my project is not a DAO?

Absolutely! You are welcome to join us even if your project is not a DAO. At the
Open Internet Summer, we believe that, even if it sounds counterintuitive, it's
not by focusing on DAOs that you build a DAO, but by focusing on pursuing
missions, helping others and fostering communities. DAOs will emerge naturally,
much like friendships and love relationships.

Our mission is to spark creativity, innovation, and collaboration by providing a
space for hackers to work on their projects while learning about Motoko, the
Internet Computer, and Web3.


What if I don’t have a defined project? Can I still join?

Yes, we can help you generate ideas, and soon enough, you will find yourself
with too much to build!
