Homepage of LUCAS HAWKINS Student of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Louisville LUCAS HAWKINS Undergraduate student studying Astrophysics at the University of Louisville My LinkedIn: * About ABOUT, INTERESTS, CAREER GOALS I am currently undergoing my Junior year at the University of Louisville, in pursuit of a degree in Astrophysics. I am interested in astronomy, and many subfields of astronomy, including planetology. A short-term career goal of mine is to become involved in astronomical research through my university, to get some real involvement in the field. A longer-term career goal would be to find a job in planetology after going to graduate school. Other than astronomy, I like to learn foreign languages, program, and write. I also enjoy teaching others about my subjects of interest and have considered becoming a tutor. Education & Experience EDUCATION AND COURSES Here are the classes pertaining to my field which I have taken so far as a Cardinal: Math 301: Calculus III, 3 credits. Main topics are integration in various coordinate systems and with multiple variables. Taken during second semester of Sophomore year. Taken during first semester of Junior year: Physics 300: Introduction to modern physics, 3 credits. Includes fundamental concepts of physics beginning in the early 1900s. Physics 301: Lab associated with Physics 300, 2 credits. Measuring physical constants important to the field. Physics 307: Introduction to stellar astrophysics, 3 credits. Astronomy on the scale of star systems. Physics 350: Ordinary differential equations, 3 credits. Dual-course with both linear algebra and fourth-semester calculus. Physics 355: Introduction to modern optics, 3 credits. The nature and behavior of light, beyond geometric optics. WEBSITE HOMEPAGE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Foreign Languages: I took French all four years throughout high school, which allowed me to begin with 2nd-semester French at U of L. Programming: My Optics and Differential Equations courses at U of L provided a groundwork for the Python language due to their usage in class and in the MATLAB™ software. MATLAB homepage Work: I have no work experience in any fields of science yet, just a couple years worth of work in landscaping-type jobs, such as putting up fences and laying block paths.
