KARMA'S ROTTWEILERS You are here: Home > Rottweilers Information > Rottweiler Growth Chart Rottweiler Growth ChartMarian2016-11-27T09:37:42-08:00 Powered by Google Übersetzer ROTTWEILER GROWTH CHART Rottweiler Growth Chart is a bit of a touchy subject because every individual of this breed is unique in more than one way. All Rottweilers have common traits and yet they are different of each other. So while this page will try to let you know how your Rottweiler puppy will grow into an adult in terms of height and weight you should understand that there are many variables that will affect his development and as such, the chart is for reference only. The main two factors that will affect his development will be the so called “Nature And Nurture”. You probably heard this expression before but do you really know what is it referring to? Let’s analyze together these two factors and understand how can they influence your puppy’s growth. THE “NATURE” OF THE ROTTWEILER GROWTH The “Nature” simply refers to the genetic inheritance. Bones size and density, overall height, as well as muscle density are just few essential factors that dramatically influence the growth of your Rottweiler. Other factors include metabolism and all glands activity. Thyroid gland plays a very important role for example. If this gland is very active your dog has hyperthyroidism which makes him very active and “hyper“. In itself this condition is not that bad as he will be less likely to become overweight. The drawback is the fact that being very active he will logically use his muscles very intensely. Muscular contraction occurs as a result of Calcium ions being moved within the muscle fibers. The process is more complex in reality but for simplicity this explanation will do for our purpose. The truth is that if your Rottie doesn’t get enough Calcium in his diet, these Calcium ions will be robbed from the bones – the long ones especially, in order to sustain the muscular activity. In fact the same process takes place in people with osteoporosis. As you probably already guessed, this condition greatly influences the bone density and hence the weight. A hyperthyroid gland beside fat, also burns proteins, the main component of muscles so now, your Rottie is even lighter. Rottweiler Puppy Now, let’s get just a little bit deeper into genetics. I promise you that is nothing complicated – in fact is very simple. One of the Laws Of Genetics tells us that in species with multiple offsprings at birth, 25% of them will be exactly like the sire, another 25% will be exactly like the dam and the remaining 50% will have their gene pool a mix between the two parents. This is why you need to see both, the sire and the dam of the litter when choosing your Rottweiler puppy. A good and reputable breeder will strive to get the best and perfect Rotties by mating males and females with excellent qualities. One other thing I feel the need to talk about here is the “runt” puppy of a litter. I don’t know why people consider the smallest born puppy the runt of the litter, when in fact there is no such thing. Let’s consider the Rottweiler reproduction for a moment. Throughout several days the sire is inseminating the dam several times. This is just to insure eggs fertilization. And make no mistake, all eggs are fertilized the same day. The gestation period is known to be 63 days. Yet something is happening and one or even two puppies are born smaller. You will find the answer for this on the Rottweiler Dogs Reproduction page. Please read it! But do not be worried. These small puppies are not born prematurely. Yet, how many human babies have been born prematurely, lived in an incubator for months and turned out to be normal adults? You rather should be looking at faults the puppy may have. This will be the difference between “show” quality and “pet” quality puppies. The smaller size at birth will simply disappear by 2-3 years of age but not without the correct approach of the “Nurture” factor. THE “NURTURE” OF THE ROTTWEILER GROWTH Rottweiler Puppies Eating I can’t stress enough how important as well the “Nurture” component of your Rottweiler is. It is all about his food and exercise from puppy-hood and until he will go to the Rainbow. Always ask the breeder what his parents are being fed with and what he was fed with before the time you got him. Ask the breeder for advice and stick to it because changing his food now may get him in trouble. Rottweilers like all dogs are beings of habit and by changing his food now will result in his refusal to eat or if he does eat, a bad diarrhea is a common problem. If you have no choice but to change it, then do it gradually. In the beginning, add small amounts of the new food into the old one and increase the quantity as the time goes by. Do not ever overfeed him. If for example you have to feed him 6 cups a day of dry food do not give him the 6 cups. Approximate and subtract from this amount the treats you will give him during his training and exercising. Now that we arrive at the training and exercising part of his “Nurture” component you should understand that this part is as important as the feeding. Rottweilers love to work and please. By training and socializing him early in life you will get not only a very well behaved and friendly dog, but a gorgeous, magnificent looking Rottweiler at the same time. MALE ROTTWEILER GROWTH CHART Below you can see a Rottweiler growth chart for males. Again these values are average numbers and for orientation only. If you regularly check your puppy’s height and weight do not get worried if the values goes a bit above or below. Male Rottweiler Growth Chart FEMALE ROTTWEILER GROWTH CHART Below is a Rottweiler growth chart for females. Like with the one above the numbers are for orientation only. Depending on their bloodline, both males and females may have heights and weights growth spurts that do not reflect these values. Only severe differences should be of concern and if that occurs you should take your puppy to a vet immediately.
