Although the guitar is his main instrument, in his projects, Bevan works as a multi-instrumentalist producer by writing, performing, and recording all of his music. His vocal style conveys a dark mood that ranges from emotional and clean, to distorted singing that usually morphs into the traditional death metal screaming. A vocal style that is dynamic and comfortably suits the project’s ambitions. Firmly rooted in the realms of extreme music, The One Divide’s sound blends elements from all over the genre and adds a dose of gothic flair, producing songs that consistently swing from melody to aggression. The lyrical approach is an honest attempt to explore different emotional and mental states through storytelling that may reflect Bevan’s own life experience. Whether it’s depression, solitude or anger, themes surrounding heavy emotions consistently find themselves as the central topics in his lyrics. The One Divide’s atmospheric approach is where the project’s identity lies. It is also what separates this iteration from how it was originally conceived more than 10 years ago, when it was a straight-forward melodic death metal act. Carl Bevan has created a project that is powerful, at times unpredictable, and remains infinitely close to his interests and life experience.
