The Amazon Alexa Fund was originally launched in 2015 to create momentum for
voice and smart devices and show the art of what’s possible. Since its launch,
the Alexa Fund has provided venture capital funding to fuel not only voice
innovation, but also areas such as artificial intelligence, hardware, and
entertainment.

We believe in supporting entrepreneurs who advance the state of the art and
working with them to best leverage Amazon to innovate on behalf of customers.

The Alexa Fund strives to be at the forefront of technological advancement.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning serve as the foundation for an
increasing proportion of the most innovative consumer products and services.
Amazon has developed AI-enabled products for customers for over a decade, and we
believe that much of the AI innovation that will enhance what it means to be a
consumer is in front of us.

While our investments span a wide range of sectors and stages, some core focus
areas for us include:





SMART DEVICES AND SERVICES

 

Some of the most successful consumer products in the last few decades (e.g.
mobile phone, personal computer, smart speakers) have been innovations at the
intersection of hardware and services. We believe that we are at beginning of a
cycle in which advances in computing will enable a new generation of devices and
services that reduce friction and create superpowers that improve the lives of
consumers.  





ENTERTAINMENT

 

The evolution of tools that democratize content creation, the emergence of
synthetics, the accelerating shift towards immersion, and the influence of the
first digital native generation is shaping preferences and trends that are
changing the essence of entertainment. We believe the creation of all forms of
media will flourish with the power of generative AI to the benefit of consumers
and creators.






AMAZON COLLABORATIONS WITH THE ALEXA FUND PORTFOLIO

THE ALEXA FUND PROVIDES OUR PORTFOLIO ACCESS TO THE RESOURCES OF A GLOBAL BRAND.

VOLLEY AND SPLASH BUILD LLM-POWERED ALEXA EXPERIENCES


Developers will be able to integrate their APIs or content into Alexa’s LLM and
create experiences that allow customers to access real-time data, enjoy
immersive generative AI-enhanced games, perform tasks like booking restaurant
reservations, getting a succinct summary of a trending news story, and more. In
addition, smart home developers will be able to model actions easily to enable
customers to interact naturally with their devices. Volley implements AI as a
core feature in their development of voice games for Alexa. Splash harnesses
generative AI to empower a new breed of musicians, creating songs by voice
through the Splash experience on Alexa.

AMAZON STUDIOS TO DEVELOP FIRST ANIMATED COMEDY SERIES

The Janky & Guggimon Show, starring the Superplastic synthetic celebrities Janky
and Guggimon, is in development at Amazon Studios. The two companies have also
signed a first-look deal to facilitate the creation of additional series and
films starring other characters in the Superplastic universe. The Janky &
Guggimon Show follows the adventures of two lazy and spectacularly incompetent
best friends who are hell-bent on getting rich and famous but leave a trail of
chaos and destruction in their wake. The endearing duo includes Janky,  who
spends his spare time scamming celebrities, and Guggimon, a fashion icon and
master manipulator who’s too narcissistic to care.

ENDEL PRODUCES A PLAYLIST WITH AMAZON MUSIC

In an exciting new collaboration, Amazon music and Berlin-based AI sound
wellness app Endel will produce a sleep playlist, making Endel the first
generative AI company to collaborate with the service on a playlist. Drawing on
extensive research into the neuroscience of sleep, the playlist lasts roughly 8
hours or until the listener awakens, and is available only on Amazon music. The
sleep playlist created with Amazon Music, titled "Sleep Science" opens with
an Amazon Original track featuring electronic duo 5x5 (Kaskade and deadmau5)
that was produced using the hit track "Escape" and released through AWAL. Catch
