Phishing is a type of cyber-attack that uses your feelings of trust, fear and worry to get you to click on links, download malicious files, or to give out sensitive information through falsified emails. A successful attack can cause significant financial losses, reputational damage, and expose private information. How do we combat phishing attacks? Whenever you receive a suspicious email, the best approach is to pause, reflect, and report: • Pause: Protect yourself and RBC by taking a pause before you react to an email. Taking just a few seconds to think about whether a request is legitimate before responding can help you determine if a request is a phishing attempt. • Reflect: Reflect on the possible hooks the sender may be using to Phish for sensitive information. • Report: If you spot a suspicious email, safeguard the bank by using the Report Phishing button in the top right corner of your Outlook toolbar. By clicking the Report Phishing button, you can help our teams analyze the threats and prevent future attacks. Do not just delete or ignore the email, make sure to always report phishing.
