MANUEL LEÓN GAMARRA

Manuel León Gamarra (Madrid, 1937) is a self-taught painter. His professional
training and his work --in Madrid and Lucerne (Switzerland)-- have always been
in the fields of drawing and design. Perhaps this is the reason why lines,
forms, shapes and colors make up a universe in which the only boundaries to his
imagination are the physical limits imposed by the canvas he is using.

He loves to paint and enjoys sharing with others the love of painting. For
several years he collaborated with the Spanish Association Against Cancer
directing his own Painting Workshop for people who had undergone mastectomies.
There is not a single week of his life that he has not spent some time treading
–together with retired friends-- the Madrid museums and art galleries.

Of course, if we are to speak about love, his other passions are fishing,
playing mus or chess, working with wood, reading literature in his e-book, and
spending evenings at the cinema or the theater with his wife. He also enjoys
wandering about on the trails of the Gredos mountains, gorging on water at the
springs of La Pedriza, and family celebrations with jamón ibérico and rabo de
toro. Undoubtedly it is the passion with which he does the things he likes that
makes his paintings so vibrantly enticing.
