UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM




 * THE PROTECTION GAP
   
   
   The gap between insured losses and economic losses is growing and this leaves
   individuals and tax funded disaster relief to shoulder the cost of ever more
   frequent and more damaging disasters. We must bridge this gap. Insurance
   innovation will pave a new path for more effective financial protection for
   all. We support solutions that work towards affordable & accessible coverage
   of the total cost of risk across longer-term time horizons to reduce the gap.
   
   


 * GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS
   
   
   To combat global warming, the world must reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) and
   other greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. We collaborate with
   forward-thinking insurance partners to develop innovative incentives that
   accelerate the transition to cleaner technologies, such as renewable energy,
   electric vehicles and carbon capture and a low carbon economy.
   
   


 * VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES
   
   
   Communities at high risk of catastrophe with low adaptive capacity have
   little chance of surviving over the longer-term. There is an urgent need for
   insurance to serve them better. That's why we focus on developing innovative
   insurance products that build resilience for the most vulnerable communities.
   
   


 * NATURE LOSS
   
   
   The accelerating loss of nature threatens our economic prosperity because
   more than half of the world’s economic output – US $44tn of economic value
   generation – is moderately or highly dependent on nature.
   
   Businesses don’t have the information they need to understand how nature
   impacts their immediate or the longer-term financial performance. That’s why
   we help innovators develop insurance products that promote nature-positive
   practices and mitigate risks from loss of natural systems.
