I know many of you are familiar with CaringBridge, but for those who are not, this will become info central for her communities of family and friends. You will be able to see the most recent information we can provide, respecting Nancy’s request that the more the merrier. I am not a Doctor, and this is not intended to be a tutorial of technical medical information. It IS intended to build the support she’ll need in a fast changing situation. By way of background, Nancy was treated for a slow bleed hemorrhagic event (aka stroke)at the end of January, 2024. The team stabilized her, and she entered two weeks of Acute Rehabilitation at Inove - Mt. Vernon. It was hard work, but Nancy jumped right into it, getting much needed rest in between therapy ( occupational, physical and speech/language)sessions. She was discharged in mid-February, and returned to the peace and quiet of Oxford. Ongoing testing, and MRIs , revealed the presence of a tumor, which turned out to have been the source of the bleeding. It was pressing on her optic and speech pathways in her brain , and needed to be removed asap. The tumor was removed at Georgetown Un Med Center, on April 3rd with immediate relief, particularly in her speech. Unfortunately, the biopsy revealed that the tumor was/is cancerous , and Nancy’s condition was diagnosed as Glioblastoma . Although the tumor was removed, it left behind cell sized versions of itself, which try to re-form . To forestall this , an aggressive treatment plan has been recommended by a Team of superb physicians and oncologists at G’town. Nancy is in the process of understanding those choices open to her.The ‘pre’ work began yesterday, and a meeting was scheduled for Tues, April 16th, to lay out the plan. Yesterday, tho, Nancy had a seizure ( maybe 2) , the second one while in the ER at Easton, MD Hospital last night. Her ER Doc got in touch with the team at Georgetown , and it was decided to ‘transport’ her Georgetown , as soon as a bed can be made available. She is in the ‘best of care ‘ world , there. Nancy’s Faith Remains rock solid, and we encourage you - her family of friends , to pray for relief , and allow her time to heal. I know many of you are anxious to see her, but hope that you can accept Caring Bridge as one step in that direction, that will lead us to that gathering party she has always dreamed of . Are there enough jumbo crabs in the Chesapeake to feed all of you ? I will rely upon the loaves and fishes example ! Thank you to all of you who have reached out , and sent flowers , and chicken soup !Thank for being a part of this journey, and reflecting your love for Nancy. We had determined that we would laugh every day ; no anecdote gets edited , so share away.We will make sure she gets every message left here , and Caring Bridge will let you know when there are updates.
