Apple is slated to have a very busy week introducing new Macs, reporting
earnings and expanding testing of Apple Intelligence features.

State of play: The company opted to forego a second in-person event after the
announcement of new iPhones last month, instead dribbling out news of devices
capable of running AI experiences.

Driving the news: Apple top marketing executive Greg Joswiak posted on X last
week that the company would have "an exciting week of announcements."

 * eExpect new M4-powered iMacs, MacBook Pro laptops and Mac mini desktops, per
   Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
 * The company also reports earnings on Halloween, giving the first official
indication of demand for the latest iPhones.
 * Last week Apple delivered a developer beta of iOS 18.2, the first version of
the iPhone operating system with support for the second wave of Apple
Intelligence features, including Genmoji, ChatGPT integration and Image
Playground, which creates cartoonish pictures based on text prompts.

Apple on Monday unveiled "Apple Intelligence," its plan to harness advances in
artificial intelligence to improve the software that powers the iPhone, Mac and
other products.

Why it matters: Apple has been the slowest of the major tech companies to detail
a generative AI strategy, and today's announcements represent its broadest
effort yet to hang the banner of modern AI over its popular products.

TIM COOK SAYS APPLE WILL HAVE AI NEWS "LATER THIS YEAR"

On Apple's earnings call Thursday, CEO Tim Cook said the company continues to
work and invest in artificial intelligence and added, "We're excited to share
the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year."

Why it matters: While far from an announcement of specific products or strategy,
Cook's comment represents Apple's most concrete suggestion to date that it is
planning its own response to the tech industry's generative AI frenzy.

APPLE'S AI STORY IS STILL A ROUGH DRAFT

resistance, and finally succeeding.

Apple is set to detail its generative AI strategy at next week's developer
conference, but don't expect what's shown to be the final word.

Why it matters: The iPhone maker is under pressure to unveil a strategy, and it
will do so. But that strategy is very much a work in progress.
