MEET JAY & JERILYN

Though a native New Orleanian, Jay Johnston has served churches in Louisiana,
Florida, and Tennessee, as well as a consultant, manager, and senior leader at
LifeWay Christian Resources. Because of his pastoral heart, Jay’s aim has always
been to love people, meet needs, and share Jesus through his daily life. This
aim influences every aspect of his life, from his ongoing ministry work, to his
relationships with his wife Jerilyn and their two sons. Through the years, God
has used Jay and Jerilyn to help people connect with God and with other
Christians. Join us in praying that the Lord will continue to expand their
opportunities to disciple, equip, and connect His people to impact the world for
Christ.

Ordained and Licensed Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Bachelor of Science — Louisiana College
Master of Divinity — New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary
Doctor of Ministry — Liberty Theological Seminary

WHAT FRIENDS ARE SAYING:

"Jay Johnston brought the joy back into my service for the Lord. He listened to
my needs and made ways to meet them. He heard me. We prayed together and worked
to increase our ministry for the Lord. LifeWay's ministry grew through his
concern for VBS and SS. Thank you, Jay!"
Becky Martin

"If it were not for Pastor Jay Johnston, his ministry, and obedience to The
Lord, I know for fact I would not be here today. After I spent years addicted to
alcohol, my father reached out to Pastor Jay in desperation. It was through his
ministry that I not only received the help I needed to get sober, but most
importantly, restored my walk and relationship with Christ Jesus!"
Ryan Taylor

"Jay is as honest as a day is long and works as hard as anyone I’ve known. He is
committed and dedicated to grace and truth as a minister of the Gospel. His
service and passion is for the Lord Jesus Christ. I am thankful for the time we
shared together and the impact he has had in my life."
Cesar Sastre

"I have worked in ministry with Jay Johnston for 30 plus years. I have known Jay
to be a man that loves God, a man of integrity, a man with compassion and love
for all he ministers to, a great family man and a dynamic prayer warrior. He is
a joy to know and to work with."
Annette Gordon

"There are a handful of people in my life that I have really looked up to as
examples of Christ and Jay is among them. Jay has a heart for ministry and
people that goes beyond words, he is passionate about caring for others in
tangible ways."
Paul Rolinski

"Occasionally in ministry, we are faced with the fear of burnout: whether it's
with respect to ourselves or others we are considering asking to serve.
Witnessing the ministry of Pastor Jay has allowed me to recognize that a focus
on prayer and obedience, rather than amount of activity, helps provide the
discernment we need to serve fervently: in the full strength that God provides."
Johnathan Hills

"What can we say about Jay Johnston? He is truly a man who loves Jesus and
serves Him well in the way he loves His people. Jay is just as comfortable in a
boardroom meeting with dignitaries and elected officials as he is working on the
streets and in the homeless shelters sharing the hope of Jesus with those he
touches. Jay has been instrumental in helping to shape our ministry, imparting
his spiritual DNA throughout the years."
Pastor Abner & Jennifer Neill

"When our daughter was very ill, Pastor Jay not only prayed diligently, but
showed up late at night at the hospital to offer comfort and pray with the
family. He also offered to go bring food to any of us who were hungry. He was
surely sent by God to us at a time when we most needed it! Knowing him has
enriched our lives and helped us grow in faith."
Susan Rolston

"From the first day I met Jay, I knew he had a burning passion for the Lord and
lost souls. Over time I came to see that his passion did not waver. I am very
grateful for the impact Jay has for God’s Kingdom work!"
Pastor Shelby Smith

"Jay Johnston is a man of God's love and friendship, consistent in every area of
ministry and individual needs -- always making his love for God evident in his
service to the Lord and the ministry God has called him too."
Jim Van Matre

"I met Jay Johnston in 1992 when First Place, the Wellness program I directed,
became a part of the Lifeway Curriculum. Jay worked in the Discipleship Division
of Lifeway and was our contact person with Lifeway. I was impressed with how
much Jay loved the Lord and how much he cared about us and our program. I have
had meals in Jay and Jerilyn’s home and love their family. I have never seen Jay
waver in his faith all the years I have known him. Jay is a superb communicator
and a valuable asset anywhere he serves."
Carole Lewis

"Jay is an outstanding strategist, planner and executive, but what impresses me
most is his humble perspective to count every person in a project as a valuable
friend. Jay was consistently the first to go to families whenever grief or
suffering struck. His loyalty to Christ has given him tenacity, endurance and
perseverance in every type of circumstance."
Melana Monroe

"I have had the honor to participate in two medical mission trips to Haiti with
Jay as the mission leader. His leadership skills are extraordinary. He is a man
of great integrity and faith, and it is clear that God is working through his
life."
Roy M Lee, MD, JD

"I’ve served under Jay for several years as the Worship Associate at FBC
Covington, LA and he remains a mentor and confidant for me to this day. Jay
demonstrates an unwavering commitment and dedication to ministry and to the
flock he serves. We spent many hours together visiting members and attendees in
hospitals, hospice and in the home, and in each situation and interaction, God
used Jay to bring comfort to those in need and bring glory to Himself. Jay
preaches truth boldly, simply, lovingly and free from hypocrisy."
Jeff Markey

"Pastor Jay Johnston has a significant value in the Kingdom of God. Through his
integrity of life and ministry, he has the incredible ability to produce growth
and transform lives by making them look like Jesus."
Felipe and Catia da Silva

"Jay Johnston has a pastor’s heart, and is a true servant of God. He knows the
power of prayer and has the God-given ability to bring others alongside him to
want to pray. Prayer is the engine that moves the church, and never has it been
more important for churches to be what Jesus said: 'My house shall be a house of
prayer.' Jay and Jerilyn are two people you want to have in your life."
Margie Welch

"When you watch someone live out the faith you aspire to for over 40 years, you
realize that you’ve borrowed their courage, their perseverance, and their
inspiration at many of life’s milestones. Jay Johnston is that for me. A true
friend and a man of God worth spending time with if you ever get the chance."
Morgan Cryar

"During the most challenging time of my life, God sent Jay Johnston to help. I
have never met anyone like Jay in my life. Jay's kindness, love, and dedication
to the Lord's work are simply amazing. My life would not be the same had Jay not
entered it about ten years ago, and there aren’t many days that pass me by that
I am not thankful for his friendship, love, and dedication to both my family and
the Lord. Jay makes our world a better place and the world needs more Jay
Johnstons."
Dr. Jeff Anastasio

“Jay has a gift for loving people well! He makes everyone feel special while
challenging them to be all that God has created them to be. This community is
blessed to have him serving the people here.”
Aaron and Jennifer Bradley

"When we think of Pastor Jay the words compassion, care, and integrity come to
mind. His leadership style is giving without expectation. He brought hope back
to us as a couple at a very difficult time by gently leading, challenging, and
serving in the most genuine way. We will forever be grateful."
Brent and Sarah Moskau

"When I think of Jay, I think of an amazing example of Jesus. Jay is a
people-loving person who gives his all for the Glory of God. He is a Godly man
of integrity, has a servant’s heart and is a person deeply devoted to prayer. I
thank God for Jay and I am grateful to know him."
Chuck Breaux

Jay is a skilled communicator and is passionate about sharing the gospel of
Jesus Christ with everyone that he encounters! An encourager, planner, leader
and friend describes Jay as he is a man of integrity. Serving under his
direction at LifeWay Christian Resources for 7 years in the FAITH Sunday School
Evangelism Strategy and working with him on Crossover Nashville events has been
one of the biggest blessings in my life. We both love to see people come to know
Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior!
Kelly Ann Reed

When we think of Pastor Jay the words compassion, care, and integrity come to
mind. His leadership style is giving without expectation. He brought hope back
to us as a couple at a very difficult time; by gently leading, challenging and
serving in the most genuine way. We will forever be grateful.
Sarah and Brent Moskau

I have know Jay Johnston since grade school. I have watch his service not only
to his church but his community. His desire has always been to see everybody
come to faith in Christ Jesus. I know this because through his effort at age 14
I came to believe in Christ as my Lord and Savior. We remain friends through the
years and he has continually challenged me and made sure that I was growing in
my faith. May the Lord use Jay and Jerilyn to pour all their efforts into
equipping the Saints into full mature and into full stature of Christ.
Jody Blaylock

Jay's kindness, love and dedication to the Lords work are simply amazing. I can
say my life would not be the same had Jay not entered it about ten years ago,
and there aren’t many days that pass me by that I am not thankful for his
friendship, love, and dedication to both my family and the Lord. Jay makes our
world a better place and the world needs more Jay Johnstons.
