In Canine Developmental Psychology, a critical period is a maturational stage of puppyhood during which the nervous system is especially sensitive to certain environmental stimuli. If, for some reason, the puppy does not receive the appropriate stimulus, during this Critical Learning Period, to learn a given skill or behavioral trait, it may be difficult, ultimately less successful, or even impossible to develop some functions later in life. There are essentially 7 main Critical Periods, of learning, in a puppy’s life. THERE IS NO MORE INFLUENTIAL TIME FOR YOU AND YOUR PUPPY TO WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE A FUTURE FILLED WITH PEACE, HARMONY AND BEHAVIORAL BALANCE! THERE IS NO MORE INFLUENTIAL TIME FOR YOU AND YOUR PUPPY TO WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE A FUTURE FILLED WITH PEACE, HARMONY AND BEHAVIORAL BALANCE! This Puppy Workshop will cover ALL the basics like Housebreaking, Crate Training, Mouthing/Nipping, Name Association (the pre-cursor to solid Recall), Leash Acclimation & more! But most importantly and highly influenced during this learning period…we provide the absolute pinnacle of positive and productive Puppy Socialization. Our expert team of well-experienced humans and behaviorally-balanced canines will work to “install” an organic “coat of armor” around your puppy through natural processes including Social Facilitation, Allelomimetic Behaviors & Stimulus Desensitization. Your puppy will leave our Basic Puppy Manners Workshop with enhanced social and self-confidence and will be less “bothered” by every-day environmental stimuli such as cars driving by, loud trucks, barking dogs, etc. Making a commitment this tough, at such a prominent stage of your puppy’s life, will easily be the most beneficial and unselfish sacrifice you could ever make for your four-legged friend and will reap incredible benefits for years to come! * Puppies must be at least 12 weeks old and have received 2 sets of “puppy shots” to attend the Board & Train portion of the Basic Manners Puppy Workshop! I already have my puppy at home. The pup has been here for more than a week or two and we are realizing that we could use some help with training. There are NO serious behavior issues, but we are having a little trouble with some of the "basics" and want to be sure to start our puppy out on the right paw! I would also like to address any Undesirable Behaviors before they fully develop. PUPPY WORKSHOP - PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS for BOTH Levels of Workshop – BASIC & PLUS * 14 days of All-Natural Behavior Training and Socialization * 1 or 2 In-Home Human Training Sessions for the entire family * Identifying and addressing ALL potential future trouble spots * Installing a solid and balanced Behavioral Foundation * Starter Leash and Martingale Collar provided * Using Positive-Based Training ONLY * Addressing ALL common puppy training needs * Unlimited Support for the life of your dog! PLUS WORKSHOP Does your puppy qualify for the PLUS Workshop? DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOUR SITUATION? I have NOT brought my puppy home yet but wanted to be as proactive as possible and schedule an In-Home Session to take place within a few days of puppy's arrival. This will allow me to identify and address Undesirable Behaviors before they even start. I understand that I will need to follow the practices prescribed by the trainer between the 1st In-Home Session and the Board & Train part of the program, as well as when the puppy comes back home! WHAT'S COVERED? WHAT DO WE WORK ON? in BOTH Levels of Workshop – BASIC & PLUS * Housebreaking - all-natural, highly successful solutions * Bite Inhibition - safe & gentle methods for mouthing, nipping * Impulse Control - the root of most undesirable behaviors * Positive Socialization - with other puppies & the Pack * Stimulus Desensitization - sight, sound and movement * Leash Acclimation - the foundation for Loose-Leash Walking * Positive Name Association - the foundation for a solid Recall * Attention-Seeking Behaviors - no more Jumping Up, Barking, etc. THE CRITICAL LEARNING PERIOD To many well-intentioned owners, it may seem almost unheard of to send their puppy away to “camp” not too long after bringing that cute little “fuzz-ball” into their home. But, if there is one thing we know with absolute certainty…it is that you really only get one shot at doing things “right” during this most crucial learning period in your puppy’s life. There’s never any question whether or not owners want their pups to grow up being well-adjusted with good behavior. But what is never fully-known is an owner’s knowledge & ability, as well as the amount of time & resources available to them to devote to being 100% consistent in the practices of training their own puppy. If ample time and effective effort are not committed at this early stage…well, then that clearly opens up opportunities for the puppy to learn to practice self-serving undesirable behaviors that can easily become negatively developed behavioral patterns that become entrenched in the dog’s repertoire…and once that happens…it’s too late! It’s far more easy and effective to avoid the development of undesirable behaviors than it is to “fix” them once they are fully developed. Think of it like this…you wouldn’t wait to put insurance on your car until after you get into an accident…so why take a “wait & see” attitude to your puppy’s future behaviors? Without the guidance of a calm, assertive and effective Leader, a dog’s social adjustment and ability to respond well to an owner may suffer irreparable damage. A calm, consistent and assertive owner can assist in guiding a dog’s choices until it is properly socialized and trained to make the correct and “balanced” choices on its own. In order to accept our Leadership, a dog must adopt a submissive and cooperative attitude at a very early stage of development and remain that way for the rest of its life. In order to obtain true Leadership status, one must establish social limits (e.g. not permitting dogs to jump up, bite hands (mouthing), not pull on leash, etc.), maintain personal space limits, and develop a cooperative relationship based on gentle and positive compliance training and be able to apply corrective measures when necessary. As a result of these efforts, the dog will naturally become increasingly affectionate and cooperative. Once basic social boundaries are established, other behavioral objectives are rapidly achieved by presenting or omitting rewards, such as affection, food, play and other activities or resources that the dog may desire to obtain. I don’t even know where to start! Brian and his team at CBS are incredible and go above and beyond. We adopted Bruno in December, he is a 130 pound Saint Bernard mix (cane corso, rottweiler and lab). He started showing signs of reactivity on and off leash to strangers and dogs, resource guarding the couch, pulling on lead and some. These behaviors continues to escalate, we did not know what to do. Our corrections weren’t working, after a few close calls I was scared to even bring him outside. After some research we signed Bruno up for board and train. CBS was able to accept bruno’s case in a more than timely manner. He then spent 6 weeks at CBS, we were updated with plenty of pictures! It was great to see our dog at work and playing with new friends. We weren’t even sure if he could play with other dogs at first! Brian did our rehome session two Sunday’s ago. His years of knowledge and experience was evident. He was able to help us understand what we needed to do as owners to make a more balanced relationship with Bruno. The book The Other End Of A Leash by Patricia McConnell was also very useful in helping us understand things from a dog’s perspective and how many of the things we do as humans can be rude or threatening to them. So since Bruno has been home he has yet to react to a person or dog, he does much better with loose leash walking, he has stopped trying to get on the couch or bed, he goes into his crate on his own and more. A excellent example of his current behavior was our recent vet visit the following Friday after his return. Bruno walked in past all the people right by my side the entire time. The vet had to touch his face to assess a lump, do a comprehensive assessment and draw blood. After all was done the vet told me bruno reminded him of some of the service dogs or police dogs that come in because his attention was on me the entire time, waiting for my command or direction, he did not show interest in what the vet had to do with him only caring about me and what my thoughts were. This was a huge confidence boost. We then had to walk out of the vets, there was a dog on the left and right of the hall leading to the exit. We swiftly walked by them with no incident. We as owners still have a lot of work to do but with the tools we were given I feel confident in doing so. Also Bruno now attends their daycare while we are at work. I whole heartedly trust CBS with Bruno. I couldn’t ask for a better experience. They came into my life when I needed them most. I’ve had my Rottweiler karma since she was 8 weeks old. She is now 2 years and 4 months. When I got her I thought over socializing her and babying her was what I was supposed to do. I let everyone and anyone pet her when they asked, even if karma didn’t seem to care to be pet. I would treat her like she was my baby instead of a “power” breed. I hired her first trainer for obedience and we used a lot of negative reinforcement which eventually turned her reactive and insecure. I had a mess and it was a big one. That’s when Brian and his team stepped in. I signed her up for a 45 day program at his facility. He was very honest about this not being an overnight fix. I even chose to extend the program because she had came into heat while there. They accommodated that situation as well. Brian and his team kept me updated weekly with pictures and videos. They answered all emails and kept me in the loop. Karma has only been home for a week, but just walking her in my apartment has been much easier. She no longer barks and lunges with the tools CBS has given me. I will be sending Karma back for her sleepover session in a couple weeks for a follow up. Lastly, karma struggles heavy with the vet. I cannot find anyone who feels confident enough to take her on as a patient. The vet I did have she was labeled as a danger and needed to wear a muzzle. I haven’t been able to get her spayed because they were unsure how they would monitor her after she woke up. Brian once again stepped in and found me a vet to take her. Taking it a step further he offered to be the one to take her to her appointments to show her the vet is not a bad experience. This is not Brian’s problem, but he is dedicated to his craft that he made it his. Karma will be with the facility as long as she lives. I plan to send her here whenever I need a break, have a trip planned, or karma just needs some socialization. I’m so glad I found this place. Thank you guys so much ! I will start by saying that I normally never take the time to write reviews, although I am one to read many reviews myself and use them as a guide when I would like an opinion and insight from someone else’s perspective. So, if I can put a pet parent’s mind at ease when they are trying to find an honest to goodness reliable and safe place to train and board their beloved fur babies, this is the place and to look no further. I can only give 5 stars on this review, but if I could I would give Brian all the stars in the sky! We had the pleasure and luck of meeting Brian for the first time almost 14 years ago when we reached out to him for In-home Private Training Sessions for our then very young and feisty Boston Terrier Nikko. Brian arrived at our home along with one of his pack members the very handsome Ruger to show Nikko the ropes. They helped immensely with the areas we were having difficulty with and helped us become a better and well balanced now family of three. It was not just Nikko that needed the training, but us as well! Fourteen years later, Nikko continues to see Brian on a regular basis to use his sleepover (boarding) services whenever we travel. Nikko stays with Brian at least once to twice a year (sometimes more. This gives Nikko the opportunity to get little refresher courses to keep him well balanced throughout the years and a bit of socialization as well. We would not trust our fur baby with anyone else other than Brian and his dedicated team. Which brings me here today compelled to write my first Google review. We’ve always recommended Brian and his fantastic team when anyone would inquire about training or boarding services for their dogs…honest word of mouth. But, after our most recent sleepover experience I just had to take the time to express my gratitude for all Brian did for Nikko this past stay and write a review letting any and all pet owners know just how truly fantastic Canine Behavioral Services is and has always been. To look no further and have no doubts with whom they should select when looking for a trainer or boarding facility. Canine Behavioral Services Inc is it! Nikko was recently diagnosed with diabetes shortly before having to go to Brian’s for one of his stays. Nikko would require much additional care and attention, glucose monitoring, insulin injections, as well as additional vet visits. We thought we would have to cancel our trip less than 12 hours before we had to depart. We reached out to Brian and explained the circumstances and he graciously and without hesitation agreed to go the extra mile for Nikko, as he has done many times over the course of 14 years and take care of him even with all the added care he would need. As well as his regular SleepOver Boarding Services Brian also offer what is called Special Handling SleepOver Services for the pet that needs that extra TLC. If it wasn’t for Brian’s dedication and love for what he does we would have easily without even thinking twice have canceled our trip. There is absolutely no one else we would trust Nikko’s care to. It was very difficult to leave him at such a critical time, but the outmost trust we have in Brian made it less difficult to endure. As much as we always miss Nikko we know without a doubt Nikko is always well cared for and loved by Brian and his dedicated staff and in good hands. There are not enough words to describe the gratitude for all Brian has done for our Nikko and we are forever grateful and thankful!!! If you are looking for a top of the line educated dog trainer who puts the needs of your pet first or a responsible and caring boarding establishment that will show your pet love like they are one of their own, please look no further and put your trust in Brain and his team. 💜Nikko, Natalie & Joe P.S. We just picked Arlo up from his 3rd family sleep over service. Brain, Laura and all the amazing trainers at Canine Behavioral Services have given us our life back with our sweet Arlo Boy. I'm not sure anyone else in the world would call Arlo sweet. This dog has had it rough...no pun intended. He was only 3 weeks old when he was taken from his mother and not properly weened. He then had a horrible accident at 6 months old where he was hit in the head and knocked out cold and lost 6 of his teeth. Arlo has anxiety and fear-based aggression beyond anything myself or my husband know how to handle. He has attacked and sent a dog to the hospital. He has been aggressive towards humans and animals. I honestly don't believe he would still be with us if we hadn't found the 6-week board and train program that Brian offers. Arlo is a different dog. He is so much calmer and happier. He no longer has aggression in the house but still has reactive aggression that we are working on outside of the house and in the car. Brian has been to our house to train us all, multiple times, and would come again, if we needed him. There isn't one other place on earth we would leave Arlo with or trust Arlo to learn from but Brian and his wonderful trainers. Arlo has a little way to go but every time we bring him to Brian, Arlo comes home better. My husband and I have a little way to go to be more consistent with what Brian has taught us to do, but Brian didn't hesitate to take on Arlo and my husband and myself. We thank God for him!!! Brian, Laura and the rest of ... How and where do I even begin? Brian, Laura and the rest of this amazing team are the only people I would ever fully trust with my dog. When my husband and I adopted our cattle dog 4 years ago, we told ourselves we would do everything we could to have the most well balanced and behaved dog possible. We took her to multiple trainers and signed her up for all the classes, but some problems were just over everyone's heads and we didn't know what to do. She was an extremely reactive and anxious dog, and we knew we needed more help than just basic obedience and positive reinforcement training. For us, nothing was working and it became this huge weight on our shoulders. We didn't want her to live her life in stress and fear. We came across Canine Behavioral Services and were reading about their program and how they work to change your dogs way of thinking, rather than just obedience training. We were sold! Then, we saw it was a board and train program and we were NERVOUS. Could we trust these people? What if they used hurtful training methods behind our backs? What if the facility was loud and dirty? What if our dog came home sick or underweight? We have heard crazy horror stories, and this made us worry. One phone call with Laura completely put us at ease. She was kind, patient and answered every single question I had, and she even scheduled a second phone call with us just to put our minds at ease and ensure us that we were making the right decision When the time came to drop Tilly off for her 6 week board and train, this was my first time visiting the facility and I was in total disbelief. It was QUIET. I didn't hear a SINGLE dog barking. All these dogs they have and NONE of them were barking like crazy when my car pulled in? That tells me they're doing something right, and I knew then that this was the right decision. We got weekly updates through Facebook, and they kept in contact with us regularly to let us know how things were going. At one point, Tilly was licking and scratching her feet a lot, and they were immediate to reach out and let us know what was happening, not a lot of places would be so on top of these things! Now to her training. Once she came home, Brian gave us a rundown and essentially trained us humans on what we had to do. It was overwhelming, but he assured us that they would be there for us any time we have questions, and they have been. I've sent them SO many emails and they always respond unjudgementally. Us humans have a lot of work to do, but in the month she's been home, we have seen a DRASTIC improvement in her behavior! No more barking fits, no more jumping on guests, her recall is phenomenal, her loose leash skills have significantly improved, and her reactivity has improved so much! Sending her to their 6 week board and train program was the best decision we have ever made, it's improved not only our dogs quality of life, but ours. Their approach to dog training is so much better than your basic obedience training, and I would recommend every dog owner out there send their dog here, its WORTH IT. If we ever get another dog in the future, they'll see Canine Behavioral Services before they even see their new home, that's how great this place is. They have a poster on the wall inside their facility, it reads "make the right choice, not the easy one" and I think that sums up this experience beautifully ❤️ How and wher x read our reviews 2023-05-27 20:19:17 powered by goodreviews * Deb Thomas First let me say, I have a high maintenance breed who needs a ... This is in fact ... I am by no means a review type person. This is in fact my first one! I felt so compelled after my experience with Brian, that i had to share. My story is like most, I had a puppy that i wanted to start off on the right foot. But I wasn't willing to send my baby just anywhere. After some research, and some conversations, we decided on CBS. Boy am I glad we did. We enrolled Harper in a puppy training program. Brian taught our baby how to act to put it simply. Harper, our baby Giant Schnauzer, returned home very calm and eager to please us. She has been super delightful to have around friends, with us often getting compliments about her behavior. Most people cant believe she such a young puppy because her behavior is so calm. Her drive to play bite, unlike most puppies, is almost zero! She sits naturally and awaits our next move every single day! And her loose leash walking is damn near perfect! Upon Harpers return home, Brian gave us a few hours of one on one training to train us (the humans) on how to act and expect certain things.
