We are registered and certified in the Nationally Recognised Driver Training & Rehabilitation. We specialise in the Assessment of the fitness to drive a vehicle. Recovery Road provides a specialty service for people following a medical illness, injury, disability or any condition which may impact on the person’s ability to drive. The services aim to assess and enhance a person’s safety and independence. Recovery Road’s goal is to enable you or your family member to begin or return to driving safely and legally. TAKE THE ROAD TO RECOVERY THE SERIES OF ASSESSMENTS ARE COMPLETED TO DETERMINE: * How a person’s medical condition might impact on their ability to drive safely and legally * Assess a person’s ability to drive (determine physical and cognitive capacity) * Recommend appropriate vehicle modifications and provide training in their use * Assess work related driving capacity (including commercial vehicle licences) * Assist an individual with an acquired or congenital disability begin driving. * Complete an ergonomic assessment to determine the best driving posture and facilitate improved driving performance. * Help identify relevant alternative transport options to ensure the person can continue to access the community and maintain the persons independence. THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS INCLUDES 01. COMPREHENSIVE CLINICAL ASSESSMENT 02. PRACTICAL ON- ROAD ASSESSMENT WITH A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR. 03. DRIVER REHABILITATION LESSONS (WHERE PRACTICABLE). Where practicable, a driver rehabilitation program targeting recovery of skills that may be effected as a result of the person’s medical illness. The series of driving rehabilitation lessons may be conducted with our occupational therapist and a driving instructor experienced in rehabilitation, to facilitate a quick and safe return to driving.
