<p>This online course features experienced special education teacher and instructional coach, Catherine Wilson. Throughout the course, Catherine focuses on strategies and tools to help you better support students with disabilities who have
fallen behind. The course examines how to use the accelerated learning approach rather than the remediation approach to help students catch up and close gaps. The accelerated learning approach includes five steps that are explained, and
modeled it within this online course. First, is to clearly articulate learning goals. Catherine shares strategies and activities that have worked in various classroom settings with diverse groups of students and abilities. The second step
is to activate and build prior knowledge to increase learning and retention for students with disabilities. Catherine stresses the importance of frequent and meaningful formative assessment, which is the third step. The course includes
resources, strategies and techniques to support you in being able to assess your students. Strategic vocabulary instruction is a crucial and fourth step to accelerate learning and help your students with disabilities catch up. Lastly, the
fifth step focuses on using high-leverage instruction strategies. This course is full of practical, high leverage strategies to help students that struggle and increase academic success for students with disabilities. Additional digital
resources, templates, and examples are included. </p>

instructional coach, Catherine Wilson. Throughout the course, Catherine focuses
on strategies and tools to help you better support students with disabilities
who have fallen behind. The course examines how to use the accelerated learning
approach rather than the remediation approach to help students catch up and
close gaps. The accelerated learning approach includes five steps that are
explained, and modeled it within this online course. First, is to clearly
articulate learning goals. Catherine shares strategies and activities that have
worked in various classroom settings with diverse groups of students and
abilities. The second step is to activate and build prior knowledge to increase
learning and retention for students with disabilities. Catherine stresses the
importance of frequent and meaningful formative assessment, which is the third
step. The course includes resources, strategies and techniques to support you in
being able to assess your students. Strategic vocabulary instruction is a
crucial and fourth step to accelerate learning and help your students with
disabilities catch up. Lastly, the fifth step focuses on using high-leverage
instruction strategies. This course is full of practical, high leverage
strategies to help students that struggle and increase academic success for
students with disabilities. Additional digital resources, templates, and
examples are included.

How long does the course take?
The course is designed to take at least 5-6 hours if you watch all video clips,
complete all review activities, read supporting documents, and create your
personal Action Plan. Times will vary, as some people may move more quickly
through the course, and others may want to watch modules multiple times. The
course can be stopped and started at your own discretion, with the course
resuming where you left off. You may also choose to re-start the course at the
beginning.

How long do I have to complete the course?
Your course will remain active for up to 90 days after your enrollment. After
this time period, you’ll no longer have access to the video clips. As you take
the course you’ll need to save and/or print Supporting Print Resources, as well
as your Personal Plan of Action, to have access to these materials after the 90
day period.

What makes these courses different from others offered online?
This course is an on demand, video-based online course. Unlike many other
courses, you will see activities and strategies in action, modeled by real
educators in real classroom settings. Since the course is on demand, you can
control when and where you take the course, as well as how much time you spend
on it each time you log on. The course includes a Personal Action Plan- a
document you will create to help you implement any strategies and ideas you
select into your own program. You’fll also find supporting documents to
download, save or print.

Check the volume setting on your computer. If you are using headphones or ear
buds make sure they are properly plugged in. If you are using desktop speakers
make sure they are properly plugged in and they are turned up if they have a
volume control. Make sure you are not streaming any other content from the
internet. You may need to restart your browser or clear its cache.

I hear more than 1 video playing, how do I stop them?
In some rare cases some people may expirience more than one video playing at the
same time in a course. If you are expiriencing this issue it may help to disable
Adobe Flash in your browser.
