MEETINGS

KWVoIP meets regularly on the fourth Thursday of the month. Meetings are
scheduled to begin at 7:00pm, but some people arrive at 6:00pm to order dinner
before the meeting. KWVoIP is currently not holding meetings, neither in-person
nor virtual. There are no plans to resume meetings at this time.

Hi everyone: The last few KWVoIP meetings at Egg Roll King have been sparsely
attended. Several times only one of us has shown up, and I'm sure there have
been days when there was no-one in attendance at all.

When Mojtaba first proposed setting up a VoIP User Group I envisioned telephony
techs with buttsets popping up all over; instead the membership is people
looking for cheaper phone service -- I didn't expect that. I think those members
are satisfied (are you?), and haven't had the need to come to VoIP meetings.

However, there's still a (somewhat) lively discussion group in the conference
chat room of our XMPP server. There hasn't been much discussion of VoIP issues,
but gardening, music, and transit seem to be of interest (but the most frequent
topic is about maintaining an XMPP server :-)

So, I propose that we meet one last time at the Egg Roll King Restaurant, and
then retire to gardening and music in the XMPP conference chat room. Hope to see
you all in both places!

   with the annual SysAdminDay Dinner at Abe Erb's Restaurant in Kitchener. You
   don’t have to be a SysAdmin to come to the SysAdminDay Dinner — Everybody’s
   welcome! SysAdmins-In-Training, Retired SysAdmins, even people just curious
   to know what an array of SysAdmins looks like.

   Telium has requested the removal of their presentation from the KWLUG

 * February 22, 1924 - Long-distance telephone connection is established between
   Macleod, Alberta, and Toronto. In unrelated news, the town of Macleod
   declares bankruptcy that same year.
 * The KWVoIP Web site is undergoing some changes, thanks to upgrades provided
   by our VPS donor, indieServe Networks. We can discuss future plans for
   mailing list services (currently hosted at SOBAC), an online calendar for
   meetings, and the cost of maintaining our domain name.

 * Brian Bentley has been telling his KWVoIP buddies about his transfer from
   Rogers to CarryTel. The transfer was easy, professional, on schedule, and
   successful.
 * Speedtest.net results are steady 75/10 - even after school and early evening.
 * The whole story and a reliability report at the KWVoIP meeting, Thursday, Oct
   26th, 7 pm at Egg Roll King (dinner at 6).

 * Brian Bentley has switched ISPs! The one he was on was too expensive, and the
   one that was recommended was too unresponsive. But Brian found CarryTel,
   which satisfies all sides of the trilemma: good, cheap, fast.
 * After some adventures with the firewall, we continue the work on installing
   FreeSWITCH and FusionPBX.

 * System Administrator Appreciation Day is held every year on the last Friday
   of July, the 28th this year. In the Kitchener-Waterloo area that means System
   Administrators appreciate each other with a SysAdmin Day Dinner. VoIP Admins
   are SysAdmins too, so let's combine the KWVoIP meeting with SysAdminDay
   Dinner again this year.
 * Please fill out the poll at Planning #SysAdminDay Dinner to figure out
   attendance as well as venue. On Monday, 24 July 2017 at noon I'll count the
   total number of responses, then make a reservation at the most popular
